This album is total fire! 🔥 I think I can sorta tell how many times someone has listened to this album just by how they pick their top favorites. For example, at first my favs were the early released tracks; Selfish, No Angels, etc. But after playing this album on repeat all weekend long, Technicolor, F'n up Disco and Play (among others) are my now current favs. The reviews are what has fallen short just by even mentioning the saga with Britney. I like the way you review. Way better than traditional critics that don’t even review the music anymore and go after the individual. They can all get in the bin.
If it wasn't already clear that JC's voice was better than Justin Timberlake's, then the "Paradise" song proves that. I do like Justin, though. I think he became a star for an number of reasons, one being his playful personality.
Ooh man. Bro you just became ny new go to. 1- love the quick review. Not doing too much 2- favs songs are almost exactly the same. Good taste. 3- the critics bitching are all about him personally. It’s so stupid. The album is not peak JT but its still good music.
Good review man. I think the album is good as well. I would've sequenced some of the songs differently on the album and even delete a song or two to make the sound more cohesive and synergized, but the album is in a safe space for him because he's back in his Pop/R&B bag. I would've made Memphis an outro or delete it altogether, but it enforces a little bit of narrative in the album. And I'm with ya, I don't like Sanctified either. We are on a similar soul train of thought. Personally, I would've started the album off with Fkn Up the Disco because that's a banger but I digress going through all the rest. The sonics have been elevated a bit but you still get throwback tastes of 20/20 or tastes of LoveSounds as his sound is pushed into the future with some new modern day vibes thrown in, like the afrobeats on Liar ft. Fireboy. That joint is fire. The ecleticism of My Favorite Drug feels fresh too for him. It's Bubblegum Pop but it feels like he's taking himself seriously with the art of it all and it sounds good. Lyrically, it's typical to me on the things he's talking about which is no surprise, but I like that I could feel the art in his direction of the music and the vintage sounds to his Pop music and him getting back to R&B which he can deliver well. The music felt grown and not because of the cussing. 8/10 🌟 As for the JC thing, JC just went the wrong musical route out the gate attempting something solo. But in NSYNC, he was a heck of dancer and dude can definitely vocally go at it. He goes 100% at everything he does when performing and he's a good songwriter on top of it. I just think he lacked true musical direction and tried to be something too different than what he'd shown himself to be and it wasn't a good look. He tried too hard to shed a past boy band image. But with NSYNC, you can't help but recognize all his true talent. It never went anywhere. And I knew Justin was going to be a star on his own from the first time I saw him perform on ABC's Disney Summer Jam 1999. He stood out. The singing, the dancing, he just had a charisma the others didn't have. An X factor. Just before No Strings Attached came out, it was clear to me he was going to be this generation's King of Pop. The buzz was just ridiculous back then and a solo career was inevitable. He had the love of many coming up, including the Black community. His Black card definitely had full credit back then and working with Timbaland and Pharrell only enforced it more. I can separate Justin the person and past screwups from the music too. One doesn't affect the other for me and if the music sucks, I have no problem saying it. Like 20/20, he had some hits for sure on that album, but it's not an album I really care for that much. It just feels rushed to me; a bag of jumbled ideas. I wanted to see him branch out and look to other producers, expand his sound and ideas and at times, he just felt stuck to me. But he has still hits on that album I enjoy that I would've condensed to just one album instead of a double album. Anyway, I'm like you, a day one fan, and I saw his greatness coming. Things have cooled off a bit now for him and his dancing days may be over after this album, but he clearly shows that when he gets in the booth, he's still got it.
This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but since i have been a justin timberlake fan for about 24 years now, as well as being a music producer, songwriter myself, know what i'm talking about. A few days/weeks ago when i heard drown and flame for example, i thought to myself: ok, these tracks are not pushing the limits of innovation, but they are awesome tracks, that remind you instantly of Justin Timberlake's old school work, and that is awesome, because it gives the older fans that signature sound while also introducing it newer fans. I then thought: the other tracks will be the ones innovating, bringing that never before heard sound signature and inspiring the music world once again. Sadly, i was wrong and disappointed. What we got instead was no energy, not high quality enough for Justin Timberlake. Songs like Memphis for example, lack so much excitement and even quality, even if the concept and idea was good. Many of these songs don't even seem like Justin was the one who came up with the way to sing them. They sound very similar to a guy or two i have seen Timbaland work with. They are very modern day songs, in the sense that they lack lyrically and have a bunch of stuff repeating, making the replay value low and even annoyingly amateurish at times. It could also be my nostalgia talking but i truly believe anyone who looks at it objectively can say that instrumentally and lyrically, these artist's new songs are way worse than the old ones. When you listen to Usher's 8701 and Confessions, Craig David's Born to do it, Eminem's Eminem show, both lyrically and instrumentally, there is a huge gap between those and their later work. We also can't forget that the producers these artists used to work with are not the same. And the ones that are the same, have a buch of other different producers, songwriters and assistants working with them, throwing ideas at them(look at Timbaland, etc) so obviously, their music will be different. When you also take into consideration that many of them plagiarized or used other artists and songs for years and put an awesome beat on top of it, so that sound was never truly theirs, you start understanding how their music is not as good as it once was. Also, i admit that the first time i heard futuresexlovesounds i hated that album. Was so disappointed. Then i realized its because the music was so different that it took some time for my brain to adapt to it. Maybe this is the case as well, although i doubt it. Having said all of this, we also have to be fair and can't expect every single album to be great or a hit. Sometimes they miss. At the end of the day, i am glad he still has some good songs and i wish him the best. Even at his worse, he is still better than most these artists we have today. I hope Justin and all the other artists i mentioned, make music until they are 80 years old because the music business and world is better with their music. I guess that's how it goes, even when it comes to the greats. Some things you can't replicate, no matter how you try. And maybe they were so good right of the bat that they set a standard that could never be met again, even by themselves.
The way your thumbnail made me not watch your video for like 7 days until today when it popped it on my tl again. I had to go through the comments before seeing the video 😭😭 Thank you for the review. I love how you were so unbiased and real 💖💖
Word for word, exactly how I felt about Memphis. I get what he was trying to do, easing us into the album with a slow trap-like beat before it hits you in the face, but it definitely fell flat. If he started it with F**K up the Disco, that would have been PERFECT. It would have reminded me with how MJ's thriller album started off with "Wanna be Starting Something" explosive and fast-paced. Either way, even if they did feel like they were calling back to his previous albums, it's obvious the 2020s pop sound music had an influence to this album, and I'm ALL for it.
Fantastic review! I believe the album would have benefitted from a different sequencing . Memphis struck me as having a good lyrical concept, with execution that felt like it belonged in an another song. In my opinion, Justin worked hard to get where he is and he has the career he deserves. Without a doubt, JC is an amazing singer, however, I don't think possessing fantastic vocal cords automatically makes someone a better vocalist, musician, performer whatever you want to call it. I have the same issue with the critics, they aren't reviewing the music. The Britney drama isn't really worth entertaining, as many of her allegations have already been shown to be false or inaccurate at best.
I’ve seen a TON of critic reviews that talked about the music and they were all horrible! I don’t understand it! I agree with you-people need to get over something that happened over 20 yrs ago. They were KIDS! And in my opinion, JC cannot hold a candle to JT!
Lol, if JC should've been bigger than Justin, he'd be bigger than Justin! JC has his own album, Schizophrenic 🤭 and that album belongs in the trash! I love JC and all, but that shit was not good! And for the ppl who say that the only reason JT does so well is because he has Timbaland... Justin is ALWAYS involved in EVERYTHING when it comes to his music, Tim makes the beats for some of his songs... there's way more that goes into making an album. Most singers have help in the studio, and JT does more than most. *Dua Lipa should not be anywhere near JT's album. As for Sanctified, JT's part is way better than his feature... dude raps about his twig going "boing" when he sees this chick and mentions "fecal matter" 🤢. Justin, you're better off Alone!!!
As someone who was a fan since 2016 (10) lol…I personally like man of the woods. It’s not his best album, me personally it’s between futuresex/lovesound and the 20/20 experience. Im getting use to this new album, I do love Memphis and No angels. It’s new to me but I know I’ll enjoy it :)
Its a great album. I loved every song. I don't care about the past relationship with britney. Thats between them. I like both artist respectively. I have a few of both of their albums
I don't really like the album sadly, it lacks creativity and surprise for me . Too simple and predictable. I'am a fan since Justified that i really love but since 20/20 his songs are too repetitive and less interesting. A lot of songs on this album sounds like B-Side of his previous albums (especially FS/LS and 20/20) something already done by him and heard from him but with less quality. Hard to think that he worked 5 years for this.
I agree with the whole Brittany bullshit. Dude, shut up about that, has nothing to do with the music! Thank you for pointing that out!!!
But I think he lost a lot of fans after Britney`s book📘,lol.😉
@@monia866 🤣 I assure you he's not hurting in the number of fans department. His career is still alive and doing very well.

Technicolor is definitely the best song on the album period. 🔥
The track “alone” reminded of “never again” from justified
Agreed
F&%# the woke cancel culture haters. This album is awesome! Don't the activists tell you who's music is ok to listen to. Decide for yourself.
I’m pretty simple. If i like something/someone ima support. I don’t get letting others tell you what to like
Dude I slept on Sanctified first listen but that song is now my new favorite real talk!!
I feel like that’s one of those songs I’d probably love if i saw it performed live.
Thanks for watching!
