I have to point out ww collets full set 900 dollars. Dial indicator and 4 jaw chuck anywhere from 100 to 300 bucks. The collets are nice and I see the appeal. However, it really isn't that much more work to measure. I agree with you the only real reason someone should entertain collets is if they are turning out repetitive parts. Personally I machine firearms for personal use (its a hobby for me) so there is really no reason for a hobbyist to get them unless they start a business.

one thing you Don't say is that the spindle nose is an M0/1/2/3 taper standard!, this is the why for the adaptor at the chuck end, to adapt this Morse taper into the angle the collet standard is, R-8, ER-16/32, NT or cat 30/40 etc. it is THIS taper which closes the collet, so needs to be right for the chuck screw thread taper, so it clamps down BEFORE the collar on the collet chuck bottoms out. (what is shown here is for Micro machining, you don't normally see this drawbar style, except on watchmakers equipment, their mills (rotary heads) and lathes, ie 6/8 mm boley, Lorch, Schaublin, and of coarse sheerline) what you normally see is this taper inside a drive centre, which forms part of the chuck body, the NUT provides the closing force, or a drawtube with a cam lock toggle lever (aka the Hardinge style), or hydraulic/electric slave cylinder, (the 'swiss' cnc machines, HAAS, and others).

There are lots of chucks that work with ww collets or even have them directly addapted for sherlines and unimat and watchmakers lathes.

I also noticed that my WW Lathe Collets set fit the Mill (making total sense since it’s same headstock) but in all honesty, I PREFER the LATHE attachment DrawBolt with the Knurled
Round Hand-Tightening Knob -vs- what you get with the Sherline into Mill Collet set. [U know what I mean]??
👉For the life of me I don’t see ANY REASON why the lathe collet setup would be harmful or a long term issue for use…Can U?
👉BTW: I just noticed the QCTP “A2Z” that your rocking in a video. Can you please tell me where you purchased that, cost & if your happy with it. I’ve purchased just about EVERYTHING as far as attachments & tools for my 2010 Mill & 4100 Lathe with the exception of the Sherline’s QCTP very expensive attachment😉

AtoZ went out of business several years ago in case you haven’t already found out. Little Machine Shop has a QCTP (OXA size) for the Sherline lathe.
Taig offers an adapter for $30 that screws onto a 3/4-16 spindle with an ER16 chuck on the opposite end.
Sherline bought out Taig several years ago.
Can someone please explain the concept of runout? Also can Sherline and it's WW collets capable of turning a watch balance staff?
HI IF YOUR @ .0015 R.O. BY THE CHUCK ------ WHAT' S YOUR R.O. BY THE END OF THE PIECE ? THIS COULD BE CAUSED BY THE DEPTH OF THE SHORT COLLET C.BORE LIMITING CONCENTRICITY GRIPPING FORCE. I'D REALLY BE WORRIED WITH TRYING TO USE THAT TOOL LIKE THAT EXTENDED END WITH ANY KIND OF WORKFORCE TORQUE / CHIP LOAD AGAINST IT JUST MY THOUGHTS MIKE G.

.0015" is not minimal. That is a mile in machining terms.
