So much great dialogue in this show….this episode has some of the best. “Why do you find it so hard to believe? Why do you find it so easy? ITS NEVER BEEN EASY!”
As a woman who is usually scared shitless when men start yelling irl, there are a few actors who yell and I just get chills every time. In a good way, lol. Matthew Fox is at the top of that list. I'd follow Jack anywhere.
John’s “It’s never been easy!” gets to me every single time. Terry plays his hopelessness but also his want and need to stay hopeful so perfectly balanced. He can’t survive without some faith even if each second he believes is like another dagger of poison of potential false hope into his system. This man like all of us is so lost and pained by the seeming purposeless of all the hardships in his life but he has no choice, he has to hold on, he can’t live without hope even if the hope and purpose he’s following is killing him. This so powerfully sums up the contradiction of hope and faith. We live by it to give ourselves a purpose but the expectation if not met is also what can make us lose hope and faith. Great reaction!
Fun note. Actress playing Helen in locke’s flashback is Katie Sagal. She was Peggy in Married w/ Children, the mom in 8 simple rules, main character in sons of anarchy, leeta in futurama, and Dan’s second wife in the Connor’s. Very well respected TV actress in lots of big tv shows
Jack and Locke have the best conversations/arguments. I love the way they're natural counterparts to one another. And the acting is always on another level. That scene with Jack and Des as well always sticks with me. "I married her!" And "You don't even know what you're running from!" Matthew Fox, man.
I love stories that revolve around science investigating the paranormal or supernatural or fantastical. Also I enjoy when the show does info dumps like the orientation film, that of course raise even more questions.
Oh wow, already on Season 2 ? Damn, this is a good season. The Dharma Initiative, the Swan station. That damn countdown still invokes a sense of paranoia.
I'm a software engineer. I watched the show in its first run. When it got to the part about entering the numbers every 108 minutes, I thought to myself, "There has to be a way to automate this." How many times did Hurley say "Dude" in this series? And how many different ways did he say it?
Desmond is indeed a cool guy and one of my fav characters ^^ but to be honest all LOST characters feels so... i dont know. like a usual people in unusual circumstances. I don't see Matthew Fox playing Jack i see just Jack
Elie ... i think it's safe to say from this point on in the series, if you haven't already, it's probably best to keep a notebook, haha. There's been mythology before with the monster and the French transmission ... but now Dharma! After the Orientation video said the word "electro magnetic fluxuations," I can finally ask you this: Remember Sayid's compass? Yes, the Helen in "Walkabout" was a sex worker and yes it's apparent he named her after this real Helen but at this point obviously we don't know the circumstances of how John gets from A to B. Also, I don't think Locke was using the sex worker for sexual activity, it seems from the context of "Walkabout" he was just lonely.
I believe the phone sex operator said "My name's not Helen". Maybe he had her role playing as Helen at one point, or just called her that out of habit, maybe he was kinda using her as a stand-in for Helen in his mind.
I was rewaching this episode for the 100th time as I usually do and why am I realizing JUST NOW that this was NOT the same Helen that John Locke was talking to on the phone? The Helen he was talking to on the phone in episode 1x04 "Walkabout" was a phone sex woman. She was like, " John if we talk any longer I will have to charge you an extra $89.99." Rewatching you tend to catch things you didn't see before. 😂
When my wife and I started dating in 2008, she bought me a shirt that a had a picture of the computer and it says "I'd hit that every 108 minutes". Sadly, that was 25 pounds ago when I had a six pack instead of a dad bod. But I will never part with it. And I bought her a sticker of the Dharma logo for her Jeep.
One thing I like to point out in this episode for the folks who hate on Jack for his attitude toward Locke (which is completely justified from his perspective given what he's been through with Locke up to this point) - When John pleaded with him, human to human, and said he didn't want to do this alone, Jack conceded. He helped. He pushed it. He is one of the most stubborn characters you'll ever watch and he absolutely has his insufferable moments, but there are some folks who really REALLY misjudge Jack's character due to audience bias.
Yea analucia took a hell of a risk there, if the three of them had been baddies they could hav killed her in a second. She obvz suspected they wer too hot to be evil….yea in fact id volunteer myself as wel
They had two minutes to push the button. 815...8-1-5=2 I've been doing weird things with these dang numbers for 20 years and I'll probably never. Stop. This right here was a new one I spotted today.
Push your damn button, John. But don't push others to do it if they don't want to.😡 Helen is a good thing for Locke. While he's often told what he can't do, she tells him what he can do.😊
She places conditions on things. And gives ultimatums. That's def telling him what he can't do. It's also dysfunctional. Not to mention bossy. That's like, my way or the highway. She was def right with what she said. But adults, equals, don't give each other rules.
@@Eowyn187 An ultimatum? I think she's giving him a choice. Between a father who doesn't care about him and a woman who loves him. It's the same kind of choice Locke gave Charlie with drugs and his guitar. Between his self-destruction and life. Between evil and good.
I believe that anyone that covers Lost should have a custom Dharma logo made for them once they get to Orientation, so I threw your logos onto a Dharma image. I can't post them on YT so can I send them to you on Twitter or the business email on your profile? (Feel free not to use them its just something I do for fun)
So much great dialogue in this show….this episode has some of the best. “Why do you find it so hard to believe? Why do you find it so easy? ITS NEVER BEEN EASY!”
Any dialogue between Jack and Locke is just pure TV gold.
Shouty Jack is my absolute favorite Jack. "YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU'RE RUNNING FROM!!!"
intense Jack is the best Jack xd

Damn, that's Peggy?? wow. I know both, but never made that connection that it's the same person.
@@nth_to_see_here Really hope he reacts to Sons of Anarchy after this.
Her husband in "Married With Children" & Jacks' wife in LOST, are both in "Modern Family"
Lost connections!
She's a fantastic actress. I love her as Gemma in 'Sons of Anarchy'

The acting and dialogue this episode was sooooo on point. The back and forth between locke and jack is perfect
THE BUTTON HAS ARRIVED!
Ughhh Orientation is so good, Jack and Locke are both so hard headed in their own ways and it makes them AMAZING to watch 🤩
One of my favorite episodes. Watching this the first time when it aired, I was so locked in for the rest of the series
“Desmond seems like a cool guy” you’re not ready bro 😅.
spoilers
@@wilson0213 how is that a spoiler? It's neither positive nor negative. And it supplies zero information. It's actually very vague. He did good.

I started crying
In Season 1: "How does this go on for 6 seasons?"
Phase 2 has begun.
Thank you for uploading the reactions every day unlike others. I looove watching your reactions to Lost! You are so observant it is ridiculous.

Literally just opened the app and was blessed with a new upload right away 🤩
WOOOO!!! welcome to the button haha. crazy times are ahead.
Wow the tension between Locke and Jack 😂 that's amazing!
Also: that's the craziest countdown in your life? We're not there yet babe, just not now 😂
Helen is such a lovely character.
4:55 Your screams had me dying, Helen can be so blunt 😂😂💀
The gods have answered🙌🏽

Here we go!!! Thanks for another quick upload.
gotta push that button! i always thought it was funny the button wasn’t “Enter”, instead it says “Execute”
Because you are instructing the computer to execute the code you inputted.

The fact that you called her name being Helen is hilarious 😂

I'd use a simple Powershell script.
Yay early upload? Yaaaaay let's goooooooooo treat before breakfast for me today 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Also add up the numbers. And you’ll get 108
I'm a bit of numbers guy myself.
Two different Helens, correct.

OH IT'S OUT ALREADY??!? 🎉
The "Helen" he was talking to in Episode 4 of Season 1, was a phone sex operator who was charging 89.99 an hour. It's not the same voice.
It's a 16mm film and it's obviously old. That's why it looks and sounds weird.
