  • The US Navy's fourth Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier will be named after a cook, Doris Miller, but who is this Doris Miller? Well, he was a US Navy cook and survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack. That day, he shot down two Japanese aircraft using an anti-aircraft machine gun aboard the Colorado-class battleship USS West Virginia.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to name a ship used for shooting planes down instead?

What ninja boi here is trying to say is most ships can already shoot down planes. Destroyers, frigates, carriers, all come with some form of AA missiles and the ol phalanx guns.

@@ninjanik2095 he is known for shooting down planes therefore protecting others in the fleet. There weren’t even any aircraft carriers at Pearl at the time of Pearl Harbor attack
