I'm getting used to mine and have become pretty competent crabbing the boat sideways. One thing I'm glad you touched on is the fact that you can't simply slam the joystick to the side and walk the boat perfectly. You have to make minor fwd and reverse corrections and even minor rotations while moving sideways. It's easy once you get the hang of it but it does take practice. Fwd, reverse and 360's however are child's play with no experience required! Great video as always Will. PS. Just got my helm master marine mat in today and can't wait to put it on!
As you said a game changer. I have owned jet boats for the last 20 years and this would be great to have. I hope they incorporate this on all models in the future. Great video!
@WilliamBlais that move is not possible without helm master. Not into the wind. I can make the boat Crab walk a bit without wind but it's not in the realm of as practical and confidence inspiring as the joystick.
Another VERY helpful video. We (my wife and I) have been (finally) talking boats. I want a traditional fishing boat. She wants a run-a-bout. This Yamaha 255 FSH looks like it might be best of both worlds. We would love to be able to take it from Sanibel to Key West. Any thoughts? Stable enough? Reliable? Love your feedback. Thanks again for the great videos.
Hi Will, thanks for the video. I haven't been able to replicate get that nice crab walking that you are showing yet with my boat. I will need to try it with the multiple adjustment as you noted at the same time. Could you elaborate on the "calibrate" part of the system? There really aren't any instructions in the manual that describe how to actually calibrate the system (it is very vague and doesn't tell you what it is doing or how it does it). I'm wondering if you calibrated your Helm Master on your boat and that is helping with the side to side ability, and maybe mine is off a bit. Also if you don't mind, have you adjusted or aligned anything on the drives/buckets to make sure everything is straight and how it should be? I love the boat and the Helm Master, I just think mine is off a bit for the crab walking and would love to get it to perform like yours in that video. Thanks as always for the videos and products. ps: nice looking mat you have installed around the joystick - I guess I need to add one to my next order :)
@DaveStewart-c8o I thought the same because when I tried to move laterally, the boat would tend to move forward and diagonally more than sideways. I played around with it, and the first thing I found was I had the thrust setting on a "4" which was way too high for calm waters. A setting of "1" or " 2 " calmed the boat way down and prevented it from moving forward/diagonally. As I stated in an earlier post, it's not as simple as slamming the joystick full right and the boat crabbing perfectly. It'd be nice, but it doesn't always work that way. I suggest you set your thrust on a 1 or 2 and practice. You may feel the boat creeping fwd while you're walking it, but that is corrected simply with a slight pull on the joystick. It also will more than likely require an axis correction to straighten the bow as well. All in all, it's pretty easy to walk the boat once you get the moves down. And don't get too disappointed because without the Helm Master, you wouldn't be able to walk this boat at all. Good luck!
@bearclub8334 cannot be added to models that don't come with Helm Master. Includes new electronically actuated steering system with new reverse buckets and software that powers the whole thing. It is very elaborate and very very effective.
@@Thirst-N-Howl It's a factory option only. You have to buy the H model which denotes the Helm Master feature. At the moment it cannot be retrofitted to other FSH models.

Excellent! Enjoy! Thanks!
I love how the jet boats have involved

@pvp64 thanks! We love ours!
Another great video! I’m in the market and the Yamaha 255 is in the top of my list.
that is cool, i like that. is it available yet?
@JohnBraman413 yes on 1 model, the FSH H
How about a tutorial on doing that left and right movement without helm master? Its quite a price jump from the sport e to the sport h. Thanks!

@JetBoatPilot That's what I figured. Thanks!

@coachjj2111 I know people that have taken them from Ft Lauderdale to Bimini and had zero issues.
It’s an amazing do everything boat.

What makes this possible? Are there additional directional baffles added to each engine? Can it be added to an existing 2021 boat?

In this available for the 222 sport or 252 ? I’ve only seen it on the 255 for the FSH models.
No only foe 255 H for now. Maybe in the future.
Hey Will,
How does this compare to the Sdx or SD models?
@dcouwlier it's similar in performance to the SDX but infinitely more intuitive so you learn how to be more proficient with it more quickly.
Anyone know if the joystick is compatible with 2023 FSH 255…??
It is not. Sorry
Does it have boat hold
@BraccianO23 not yet, but will eventually
@@JetBoatPilot interesting! How will this be added? Will it be available for existing boats?
@BraccianO23 No, but supposedly, it's coming in the near future. Hopefully Yamaha will perform a software upgrade for existing owners!
@@TMRI1970 Lets hope they don't leave out existing owners! I would love to have this feature.

why is it so expensive lol
@jaxblaster84 compared to other twin engine helm master boats it's actually a value.
