Вставка

- "How do I know if I have fertile eggs? Will they be fertile? What can I do to find out if they are fertile?" These are very common questions here at Appalachia's Homestead! Let's candle those sweet eggs in my Magicfly incubator and see if they are fertile and how they are developing with my Magicfly Egg Candler! It's late in the game so we should definitely find out!
Thanks for watching! xo

I know how to tell a fertile egg before incubating. Candle the freshly laid, or couple day old egg, and you'll be able to see a little bubble on the either the top of the egg, or the bottom of the egg near the air sac, below the yolk. You'll see it bounce when you move the egg around. I've had great success with this technique . I may post a video showing what I'm talking about for you all.
I incubated for the first time and had 20 hatched out of 24. was so excited. i
This was 4 years ago but I absolutely love your personality
I am inspired by your energy and attitude. I don't have a homestead, just some land, but I find myself watching all of your videos for some reason and I think it just gives me the kick in the pants that I need for the day haha. Thank you.
I love watching you candle the eggs! Each one is special! Always excited to see the new life forming!
The most informative and entertaining candling video I’ve seen. Thank you.
I bought some "shipped" eggs on EBay and the first batch were all duds that did not develop. Some broke during shipping so I knew they were handled badly. 2 days later I added a second batch from a different seller and these are developing nicely now at 7 days. So excited about being a chicken momma too! It's wonderful for my kids as well.
Jandy Prins we can buys eggs from eBay?!?! I learn something new today
Yes can you believe it? They are already fertilized and ready for the incubator. You can pick what kind of chicken breed etc. The kids and I are enjoying the process together.
👍
I love these videos! We are hopping to be able to buy a farm next year(all in God´s timing) but we are studying and coming up with a plan on how we want to start homesteading and your videos have been key for us. Thanks for always giving us a reality check, for your encouragement and sharing all your knowledge. May God continue to bless you and your family.
I recently got a magicfly incubator. I can't wait to try it out.
I incubated eggs for the first time last fall. I found my chicks to be the easiest and healthiest ones to raise over store bought chicks. Getting ready to do it again.
Love your Dirty dancing reference. I have 2 days until lock down. There is a way to tell if they are fertile, but you have to break it open. Then you can't hatch it. They will have a little bull's-eye in the yoke. I think the guy is Charlie Trevino another you tube video. My red, white and blue Americana roosters first babies. Only about 5 more days. Very excited about them.
Thank you so much for this video. It was so helpful
Thank you! Such a helpful video!
This is helpful knowledge thanks I trust your opinions
Can you do candling with eggs that a hen is sitting on
You could do tons of these videos because I learn on EVERY VIDEO! Also how many days in do I need to wait for candling? I’m on the 3rd day incubation
Candle on Day 7 to start
10:03 mama's Been to Dairy queen hahaha
You have a nice singing voice!!!!
What do you do with the eggs that you pulled no good ?
Congratulation!! You are such a good chickie momma!!
thanks. will be candling mine soon.
lol, Patara, I love it when you start singing, and hey, you have a good voice! Neat video,
I love these candling episodes.
that was really helpful information,i have duck eggs incubating ,i candled and couldnt make heads or tails,,maybe next candling i will know,,thanks
Can we use grocery freezer eggs
Patara!! What do you did with the unfertilised eggs? Can they be eaten? Do you cook 'em up for your animals? Or do you just throw them away? Xxx
Thank you! This was very helpful!
I love this! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, experience and humor.
How long does a rooster have to be with 12 hens before I start collecting eggs?
Will you be doing step by step videos of this process. We will be starting our chicken project this summer and want to learn how to use the incubator, etc. We have just moved to the northern tier appalachian Mt. from Florida. Blessings to you and your family.
All my farming friends told me 15 hens to one roo. That's free range chickens. I use a box with arm holes cut in the sides and a sight hole on top to check my eggs, then I can check them anytime cause it's dark in the box ;)
Thanks for posting your videos
what do you do with eggs that aren't fertile, throw them away?
yes i have one rooster and just got 2 hens got my frist egg if it wasent under my hen for about 2 hrs will it die?
thank you lots of help
How many eggs have you incubated all at once in that incubator. Wonder how many quail eggs you could get in There
I love to see your candling videos!
How do you know that the eggs you sell to your customers are eggs for eating? And equally, which eggs come from Hen's that've been 'Roostered'? Do you have seasons for incubating eggs or do you do this on a continual rolling or monthly basis? I'd never thought about that before. Does your flock then grow exponentially? (i.e. the more chickens you have, the more eggs you have, which means MORE chickens & even MORE eggs etc., etc.,)
Thank you for the brief but highly exclamatory reply to my question. How people react to finding a network of veins & arteries as well as embryonic development in their boiled eggs and soldiers is something I'd've thought might make the news, but it hasn't so my question may not be as dim as you tried to make it appear. Duh?
lylskeets Thank you so much for your reply Lyl, & for explaining so very clearly what happens in a big operation like this. It makes real sense and set my mind at rest. 🐔👍
Awww, they are *moving* in there :D Thanks for this vid, and your expertise.
i have a buff Orpington that sometimes lays a jumbo egg approx 2 1/2 long mpst times single yok but hav seen a double yoke she is 2yrs old
One time mating how many days we can get fertile eggs?
What makes a baby chick try to hatch from the small end of the egg? I have had to help several out of the shells this year because of this, they would pip, stay pipped for a day and a half but couldn't turn to "unzip" that end.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for sharing your chicken mama skills!
Hello from Texas! I would love to hatch my own eggs but I worry about ending up with a rooster. My RIR is a doll but my bantam Frizzle Cochin is the devil 😀 He flogs me every single day. Thanks for sharing I always find the process fascinating. Blessings and Hugs from Texas
Sheila Langeslay so just get rid of any that turn out to be roosters.
Lindsay Devoll They are living creatures and not disposable.
Of course they are, I didn't say throw them in the trash lol. Getting rid of them can mean putting them in the freezer, selling them to others for breeding purposes or to eat. There's always someone that wants them. :)
Sorry, no offense intended. I just have a house of animals that were dumped including a beautiful black lab and her pups. I am a softie and not sure I could part with them.
You don't know until you candle them if they are fertilized or not.
But what do you do with the eggs that didn't go back in the incubator? Do you throw them away? I've asked this before, but never gotten an answer....
yes, you throw them out.
You recycle them.
You never throw anything out on a farm :)
Thank you!
I have 2 sweetvold gals who haven't laid eggs in over a year, and yet the boys still think they are fine;)
:-D I have a hen that is so possessive of the rooster that the only other hen she'll let around him is her sister. I think that's because her sister is the more alpha of the two. lol
Hey baby, what's your sign? Too funny, except for your over the hill chicken!
Can you talk a little more about "lock down" with regards to incubated eggs?
Hey, great video! Are your black copper marans the French (feather legged) variety? Would you consider shipping eggs?
I just love ur videos
Good morning
ok how can i stop rooster eat the egg
OK, I do not have chickens. So, if you have roosters how do you know which eggs you can sell to people to eat? How do you know you're not giving someone a fertilized egg when all they wanted was eggs to cook with?
mllee2008 doesn't matter if they are fertilized, the embryo won't develop unless a hen or incubator hatches the eggs. when selling eggs they are collected daily to prevent the development.
Albany Mountain homestead
OK, thanks for answering me. Have a great weekend!
You too
Also, many people prefer fertilized eggs because they believe they are healthier for you.
haha you comments during the video are great
I'm buying a 112 egg incubator
You are a delight
we have 4 roosters 3 hens, are my chances better?
NO
Patara, I either read or heard on a homesteaders video that you should not give your birds bread, is this true?
Anna DuVall I know if you give wild geese bread it can cause a condition called angel wings.
Google it
Anna DuVall feel free to google it
Awww you made my evening
Good morning!
Good morning! xo
