  • "How do I know if I have fertile eggs? Will they be fertile? What can I do to find out if they are fertile?" These are very common questions here at Appalachia's Homestead! Let's candle those sweet eggs in my Magicfly incubator and see if they are fertile and how they are developing with my Magicfly Egg Candler! It's late in the game so we should definitely find out!
    Thanks for watching! xo

    I know how to tell a fertile egg before incubating. Candle the freshly laid, or couple day old egg, and you'll be able to see a little bubble on the either the top of the egg, or the bottom of the egg near the air sac, below the yolk. You'll see it bounce when you move the egg around. I've had great success with this technique . I may post a video showing what I'm talking about for you all.

    I am inspired by your energy and attitude. I don't have a homestead, just some land, but I find myself watching all of your videos for some reason and I think it just gives me the kick in the pants that I need for the day haha. Thank you.

    I bought some "shipped" eggs on EBay and the first batch were all duds that did not develop. Some broke during shipping so I knew they were handled badly. 2 days later I added a second batch from a different seller and these are developing nicely now at 7 days. So excited about being a chicken momma too! It's wonderful for my kids as well.

      Yes can you believe it? They are already fertilized and ready for the incubator. You can pick what kind of chicken breed etc. The kids and I are enjoying the process together.

    I love these videos! We are hopping to be able to buy a farm next year(all in God´s timing) but we are studying and coming up with a plan on how we want to start homesteading and your videos have been key for us. Thanks for always giving us a reality check, for your encouragement and sharing all your knowledge. May God continue to bless you and your family.

    I incubated eggs for the first time last fall. I found my chicks to be the easiest and healthiest ones to raise over store bought chicks. Getting ready to do it again.

    Love your Dirty dancing reference. I have 2 days until lock down. There is a way to tell if they are fertile, but you have to break it open. Then you can't hatch it. They will have a little bull's-eye in the yoke. I think the guy is Charlie Trevino another you tube video. My red, white and blue Americana roosters first babies. Only about 5 more days. Very excited about them.

    All my farming friends told me 15 hens to one roo. That's free range chickens. I use a box with arm holes cut in the sides and a sight hole on top to check my eggs, then I can check them anytime cause it's dark in the box ;)

    How do you know that the eggs you sell to your customers are eggs for eating? And equally, which eggs come from Hen's that've been 'Roostered'? Do you have seasons for incubating eggs or do you do this on a continual rolling or monthly basis? I'd never thought about that before. Does your flock then grow exponentially? (i.e. the more chickens you have, the more eggs you have, which means MORE chickens & even MORE eggs etc., etc.,)

    • @essemsween818
      @essemsween818 7 років тому

      Thank you for the brief but highly exclamatory reply to my question. How people react to finding a network of veins & arteries as well as embryonic development in their boiled eggs and soldiers is something I'd've thought might make the news, but it hasn't so my question may not be as dim as you tried to make it appear. Duh?

    What makes a baby chick try to hatch from the small end of the egg? I have had to help several out of the shells this year because of this, they would pip, stay pipped for a day and a half but couldn't turn to "unzip" that end.

    @mllee2008 7 років тому +1

    OK, I do not have chickens. So, if you have roosters how do you know which eggs you can sell to people to eat? How do you know you're not giving someone a fertilized egg when all they wanted was eggs to cook with?

    • @albanymtnlife
      @albanymtnlife 7 років тому +1

      mllee2008 doesn't matter if they are fertilized, the embryo won't develop unless a hen or incubator hatches the eggs. when selling eggs they are collected daily to prevent the development.
