      There are SLPs who work with folks with stutter if you ever want to find one. :) I know a lot of SLPs who specialize in it!

    After a year and a half working at a job, I realized that I have difficulty expressing myself Most of time people who don’t understand what am I saying and ask me speaking clearly. People ( co-worker and boss ) told me to stop mumbling. Should I look for a speech pathologist ?

    I felt silly at first talking to a video. Kind of like Dora the explorer 😆, I did like that you made it comfortable and casual. The way you sipped your drink! This was helpful, thank you!

      It’s kinda hard to get used to, but if you can get used to talking to a video, you can communicate with anybody, I hope!!

    Awesome video I appreciate it . I'm most definitely checking out other videos. My speech has diminished over the years and confidence as well. I'm currently seeing a speech therapist but these videos are useful as well

    Would you recommend speech therapy to an adult who has an expressive language disorder? Unfortunately the last
    speech therapist I had couldn’t do much for me because I was outside the age range of her usual patients, and it wasn’t a condition she would come across in her patients which always seemed to be about the physical components of verbal communication. It would be nice to know what avenues of treatment are available for adult patients that are still struggling.

    • @kitjohnson1513
      @kitjohnson1513 2 роки тому +1

      Yes, absolutely. But you must seek an SLP who has training and experience with adults. This usually means getting extra training after graduation. I wrote about my experiences to attend specialized training in my book, Only in Alaska. It is available on my website, kitrobertsjohnson.com. I post it in episodes and talk about different adult communication problems. Check it out and good luck! You can always check your local Home Health organization and see who does their speech therapy. They often don't work full time and take on private patients. That's what I did.

      I would recommend a speech therapist, especially one who specializes in aphasia. Aphasia is very hard.

  • @SwaggerToast

    Thanks Julie, this is actually quite fun
    Edit: I had a brain damage when I was a kid. Surprisingly, no one suspect that I have aphasia or something similar. Idk I just kinda suspect that I do.

    I have what I feel is an unique speech problem, I was diagnosed with epilepsy before I was 6 months old, until the age of 6 I was on phenobarbital, when I learned to talk I was basically in an active comatose or zombie type of behavior. I am constantly mistaken for being drunk, what type of speech therapy would you recommend?

    • @converseandcookwithjulieef9322
      @converseandcookwithjulieef9322  2 роки тому +1

      Sounds like you should discuss with your doctor. Sounding drunk sounds like it is slurred speech. Slurred speech can also be referred to as dysarthria. Ask your doctor for a referral to an SLP.

    Had a question, my daughter she's a regular teen but her speech is not clear when she speaks, when it comes to reading she has a hard time remembering and understanding questions, is this because of her speaking patterns and should speech therapy be an option....

    Sorry for bother you. Do you know some speech language therapy for recognizing the sound of English? I am a native Spanish speaker who want to improve my phonological awareness and phoneme production of English vowels and consonants. And there is no English teacher who can help me.
    Could you recommend me someone?

    • @converseandcookwithjulieef9322

      I used the Lindamood-Bell program for phonological awareness and phoneme production, which also moves into reading and writing. It is the gold standard. I believe since COVID they are working on-line. I write about their program in my book, Only in Alaska, where I pioneered speech therapy for 31 years. The book is free and I post it in episodes on my website, kitrobertsjohnson.com. Click the subscribe button to get notified when the next episode is put up. The Lindamood-Bell part is later in the book. I just call it a nation-wide, research validated program because I'm not allowed to use their name due to copyright laws. If someone emails me and asks for the name, then I can give it to them, but I have already given it to you!
