    I feel that about the neck tint personally. I think the thing I love is how the headstock shape matches the curves and shape of the offset body! It’s so pretty, and I think fits much nicer than the fender headstock on the majority of tele offsets. I think the thing that’s not for me (criminal as it may be) is the colour. Not sure why, just not my favourite colour 🤷‍♂️
    Also small side note but thank you for the info on the string gauges! I’ve got a tele tuned solely to DAEAC#E and the strings vibrate an awful lot on the low end, so I think I might make the switch to some higher gauges.
    On that note, it could be interesting to see you test out whether you can easily play some classic Midwest emo slides, taps, and riffs with different gauges! Could be funny if you tried something crazy like incredibly small or big strings gauges! 😂

      @aquieteveningmusic Рік тому +4

      I switched to 11s when I started playing math rock style stuff a couple years ago and man is it such an improvement. With lower gauge strings I feel like I'm accidentally bending notes out of tune all the time and it just sounds bad.

    Very thorough review Steve! You brought up some points that I wouldn't have even considered. Probably goes without saying but I think it would be cool if you could review the Ichika signature (and the new one when its available!). I think you offer a really unique perspective looking at gear as a math rocker. I don't think there's a single review of the ICHI10 where the reviewer actually plays in the style of Ichika. It's usually just blues or metal riffs.

    I've always wanted a Telecaster, but I feel that this Ibanez YY20 is far superior to the Fender Telecaster, at half the price. This just might be the guitar I'm looking for. It just so happens that I love orange sparkle, it's a sign that this guitar is meant for me !!!
    I also love the shape, with the "sawed off horn" and the contouring on the back side. It's a '3X3' tuner configuration and I wish they would have gone with a '6 in line' Tele style headstock, but that's not a deal breaker for me. I've already got it bookmarked to purchase at my favorite shopping place.

    • @dy3662
      @dy3662 Рік тому +1

      Not sure they’re half the price…Fender Telecasters start at half the price of the YY20. Technically probably a quarter of the price if we’re comparing made in Indonesia with Made in Indonesia ie Squier. Although if this is a Made in Japan model then I obviously retract that, don’t think it is though.
      Point being I’m not sure it’s fair to compare something like an American Ultra, and claim the Fender is a far inferior guitar and twice the price.
      Cool guitars though with excellent specs and good value though, no doubt about that! If you get one, I hope you love it.

    I very much like the shape of a Telly with all that comfort cuts, and being right between a single cut and a double cut. I had build my own Telly, customized individual shaped and with comfort carves, out of a kit.
    I do not like the yellow color of the neck and headstock, I find it unpleasant too. If it was mine, I would scrape off the laquer of the neck, reducing at that point also the shoulders to a soft v, and apply dark amber oil in the back of the neck and pitch black paint on the front of the headstock. 😊

I think the yellow tint looks sort of like some of the japanese maple neck fenders I've seen from the 80s. I think it looks nice, not cheap at all. Plain white maple looks cheap to me... like the affinity maple necks from squire.
