Your French history is SHIT...older than the Hotel Meurice is the Hotel Crillon and Hotel de la Marine...both are 18th Century constructions, the Meurice facade was made in the year you mentioned, the building is older, but it opened on the other side which is now the back door...where employees smoke. The Crillon was a private home, not a hotel, the Hotel de la Marine was the private residence of the nobles that ran the navy before the Revolution, and the Admirals while in Paris since 1789...it has only recently been opened to the general public but it is astoundingly beautifully restored to original 18th Century decorations. Napoleon did not tear down 12,000 buildings, Napoleon Bonaparte raged war across the continent and Egypt, it was Napoleon the 3rd that pierced the city to construct the Boulevards and Avenues and the Architect that re-designed the city to become the homogenous wedding cake facades that the whole world knows today was Haussmann...and Haussmannian apartments are what everyone associates with very french design along with the mansard roofs and carved stone facades of buildings... Fashions always followed the Parisian women, Louis XIV is the one that built the business of haute Luxury in Paris by importing the different weavers, painters, stone masons, glass blowers, etc. etc. etc. from all over the known world. Baroque was a French invention...it is to date the most opulent of designs and Louis XV refined it even more in the mid-18th century...

Fun fact : if the Haussmannien street are so large, it's because the narrow street were easily blocked by people protesting in the street. So when destroying and re-building the city they made boulevards and avenues instead of streets
I have had the opportunity to stay at le Meurice on several occasions. The first time I was there, I fell incredibly ill. The staff could not have been kinder or more thoughtful. The concierge went to the pharmacie and bought me some meds. Then she told the kitchen of my plight and they made me food that is not on the menu (sick person food - very plain). The maids would run a bath for me while they cleaned the room and changed the (sweaty) sheets. It was what keeps me staying there every time I visit Paris. Even the doormen are delightful - when I leave through the front door they asked what I'm up to that day and when I return, if I have shopping bags, they ask what I bought. Yes, the rooms are gorgeous and their restaurants have historically been fantastic, but their service is what I love most about them.

You're absolutely right, not everybody can afford this. But why would that mean you can't have it, even if you CAN afford it? And more important, why wouldn't you be allowed to film this and share it with everyone who wants to see it BECAUSE they can't afford it? I stayed in a fancy hotel by accident while booking something in Japan. We didn't really care since we stayed 1 night in that location so we didn't mind splurging. We didn't expect it to be a luxury hotel to be honest, we where shocked when we arrived. The rest of our stay, we used ryokans (youth hostels, much much cheaper and a lot less fancy). We felt so out of place with all the rich people. You could tell by how they dressed vs how we did, clearly we weren't on par with the richness! It was the best restaurent I've ever eaten at too!
I always thought that after reaching a certain level (comfy bed, private bathroom, wi-fi, maybe a tv, good hygiene) a hotel room is just a hotel room. There is a difference between tiny pig sty and a nice, cheap room, but not as much between nice, cheap room and an apartament in five-star hotel. I mean if there is a bed, it's private, has a bathroom, and is generally clean - it's just as good as a hotel room can get.
I actually 100% agree. I personally choose to stay in fairly cheap hotels because after a certain point it’s not that different. Although, to be fair, that was the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept on in my life 😭
Yes, but it's the service that sets a really fine hotel apart from a nice hotel. Personally, I usually stay in "good" hotels, but not really fancy ones. I've stayed in nice hotels and it IS fun, but for the most part, you're absolutely correct ... you just need a good, clean place to stay. I HAVE however, become addicted to the "premium" section of some of the ships when I go on a cruise .... MSC Yacht Club in particular has GREAT service and amenities and the best value for money "premium" service of any cruise line I've used. I rationalize it because I get a great vacation with first-class service, food, drinks, etc. for a fraction (per day) that a hotel like le Meurice would cost me. And I get to travel around in the hotel.

I was capable to go into fancier hotels in different parts of the world (with that I mean in the US and Europe it is way too expensive for my taste) and I came to realize that I do not spend much time in a hotel room or enjoy all the features of the hotel anyways. Personally, I prefer to stay in Airbnbs/something equivalent when traveling for work, in that way I can cook while traveling, pull out my laptop at a desk, look around in residential areas during a break, and crash on a couch after a heavy day when needed. To get the same at a hotel, you need an executive or business suite (which takes away that homey feeling).

Having slept in just about every kind lodging imaginable, I've determined that cleanliness, comfortable bedding, and access to clean water is all I really need. If I'm awake I'm out seeing the sights so fancy accouterments in a room are wasted on me. If a person prefers a 5 star hotel for whatever reason I see nothing wrong with it though.

I love paris, it is my favourite city in the world. I've lived there and i read quite a lot of books about the golden age of Paris. The two parises are massively different. I think it is a shame that people often expect the book and movie version of the city while it is such an amazing city all by itself.

Something that's so sad to me is that Paris is genuinely this cultural hub - with incredible music, food and art, but because so many go into it with expectations that every building will be like Le Meurice, they leave disappointed - despite being surrounded by beauty. I cracked up at the part about judging people's wealth by the number of chairs they have. I have 2 chairs in my entire home. One chair in my living room, which is literally the ONLY piece of sitting furniture in it - no sofa, no loveseat, nothing. And the computer desk chair that I am currently sitting in. Would have loved to see the rest of the hotel!

Paris is honestly massively overhyped, like its a really nice city, a great city, worth a visit!(if you manage your expectations) but the amount of romanticisation of Paris going on on SoMe and in movies n stuff is insane
Yes!!!! This!!! I adore Paris - but the obsession with old school opulence gives people a super skewed idea of the reality of Paris. It’s a home to over 2 million people - of course it’s not going to be a perfect, untouchable relic of old money paris. But that doesn’t mean it’s not wonderful !! 💜
I love that people love the little things some hotel rooms have, like fruits, chocolates and water. Sometimes flowers. Because those aren’t that expensive even if they are. 4 peaches? 1,2 euros? Fancy chocolates, maybe 20 cents a piece of bought in big batches. Water, maybe 1 euro wholesale? And well that many flowers are maybe 5 euros in wholesale, or 10? So over all around 10-15 euros + work that goes into managing them.
I honestly so appreciate you being considerate of your viewers’ perception of a bougie hotel review in the current financial circumstances. I somewhat understand the escapism of these sort of videos, but it really doesn’t sit well with me when UA-camrs don’t even slightly touch on the world events, makes me feel so disconnected like they’re from a better planet, our worldly struggles can’t reach them. I so much appreciate your sense of humor. I was not sure this would be entertaining, but you made it fun. I, too, have never seen a bidet and would not even know how to operate one. But I have had a boyfriend (somewhat wealthy) and he had two sinks in the large bathroom. But no bidet. I wanted to google the brand of chocolates that they offer so I could have some shipped to the US. But I found out months ago, that good european choclatiers do not ship to the U.S. as the air flight will possibly cause the chocolate to explode or crack and they refuse to allow that. I asked them to ship them via an actual ship and then it would take 3 to 4 weeks and I was fine with waiting, but the answer was no to that also. So, pass on the chocolates.

I remember booking a tiny suite for a girl I was dating at the time (She broke up with me pre the event the hotel was needed for) so i just had a very nice suite all to myself and it was honestly the most absurd thing I've ever experienced, and it wasn't even the fanciest hotel in the area. I got up ridiculously early just to try out the giant bathtub and the one at home shall never compare, but I got the idea to do the thing in the first place from videos like these. These are my favorite videos! Yes! let us peasants imagine a 6ft bed and needing a phone toilet that sounds delightful. I just found your channel and it is lovely!
Chairs in my house: 1 couch, 2 folding chairs, three computer chairs. Zero dining room chairs. Our "dining" table is a foldable table, and is also my daughter's computer desk. We don't eat there. Well, my daughter does, but when we eat together it's in the living room while watching a shoe we all like.
Funny how things that are so common in some countries are fancy in others. I'm from Uruguay (not a rich country) and almost everybody has a bidet, and some also a shower next to the W.C. (you can buy one in most supermarkets) Also, sparkling water is the same price of regular water (tap water is not recommended, just filtered but is a pricey investment), and every brand has the two options. We even have 'soda', water even more sparkly, and often times cheaper than the other two. P.D.: bidet are not recommended for people with vagina, so the shower is a better option. Water flows and you can manage the power, is not going directly there (less infections)

In the latter, a person can clickbait while still delivering on the expectation. We had telephones in the loo in Turkey. My son just bought his first house and it had bidets in both bathrooms, he ripped them out, he said he kept banging his knees on them lol
I was unfortunately banned from filming the common areas due to other guests privacy. There are a couple of shots of the lobby areas near the beginning of my talk about the hotel - but i had to take these at 2am in order to not film any other guests 😭
Huh two sinks is pretty standard here in Canada. And the shower in the tub just makes cleaning said tub a gazillion times easier but I have never seen the toilet shower lol
Apparently there's different styles of bidets. So you have two styles of them in one bathroom. I enjoy occasionally staying in nicer hotels; overly fancy things make me too nervous.

It's really funny to me, that you were in Paris at the same time I was on holiday there. Now I can watch this video and remember my own stay there, nice! (Even though my hostel was obviously less fancy.) Also.. Paris does smell like pee. It was the very first thing I thought being there and it was something I sadly were reminded of again and again while being there...

My husband and I are cheapskates, we very rarely stay at hotels, but if we do stay at one for a night the one thing we will splash out on if possible is a hotel room with a spa bath 😍 Though, its getting harder and harder to find hotels that have them, so we don't often get to. Other than that, as long as it's very clean and has wifi, that's all that matters to us 😊

That's because American homes are usually larger than in other countries. We usually don't have large enough bathrooms to install 2 sinks

Paris is honestly massively overhyped, like its a really nice city, a great city, worth a visit!(if you manage your expectations) but the amount of romanticisation of Paris going on on SoMe and in movies n stuff is insane
Yes!!!! This!!! I adore Paris - but the obsession with old school opulence gives people a super skewed idea of the reality of Paris. It’s a home to over 2 million people - of course it’s not going to be a perfect, untouchable relic of old money paris. But that doesn’t mean it’s not wonderful !! 💜
I love that people love the little things some hotel rooms have, like fruits, chocolates and water. Sometimes flowers. Because those aren’t that expensive even if they are. 4 peaches? 1,2 euros? Fancy chocolates, maybe 20 cents a piece of bought in big batches. Water, maybe 1 euro wholesale? And well that many flowers are maybe 5 euros in wholesale, or 10? So over all around 10-15 euros + work that goes into managing them.
I honestly so appreciate you being considerate of your viewers’ perception of a bougie hotel review in the current financial circumstances. I somewhat understand the escapism of these sort of videos, but it really doesn’t sit well with me when UA-camrs don’t even slightly touch on the world events, makes me feel so disconnected like they’re from a better planet, our worldly struggles can’t reach them. So yes, thank you!

I so much appreciate your sense of humor. I was not sure this would be entertaining, but you made it fun. I, too, have never seen a bidet and would not even know how to operate one. But I have had a boyfriend (somewhat wealthy) and he had two sinks in the large bathroom. But no bidet. I wanted to google the brand of chocolates that they offer so I could have some shipped to the US. But I found out months ago, that good european choclatiers do not ship to the U.S. as the air flight will possibly cause the chocolate to explode or crack and they refuse to allow that. I asked them to ship them via an actual ship and then it would take 3 to 4 weeks and I was fine with waiting, but the answer was no to that also. So, pass on the chocolates.

I remember booking a tiny suite for a girl I was dating at the time (She broke up with me pre the event the hotel was needed for) so i just had a very nice suite all to myself and it was honestly the most absurd thing I've ever experienced, and it wasn't even the fanciest hotel in the area. I got up ridiculously early just to try out the giant bathtub and the one at home shall never compare, but I got the idea to do the thing in the first place from videos like these. These are my favorite videos! Yes! let us peasants imagine a 6ft bed and needing a phone toilet that sounds delightful. I just found your channel and it is lovely!

Chairs in my house: 1 couch, 2 folding chairs, three computer chairs. Zero dining room chairs. Our "dining" table is a foldable table, and is also my daughter's computer desk. We don't eat there. Well, my daughter does, but when we eat together it's in the living room while watching a shoe we all like.

Funny how things that are so common in some countries are fancy in others. I'm from Uruguay (not a rich country) and almost everybody has a bidet, and some also a shower next to the W.C. (you can buy one in most supermarkets)
Also, sparkling water is the same price of regular water (tap water is not recommended, just filtered but is a pricey investment), and every brand has the two options. We even have 'soda', water even more sparkly, and often times cheaper than the other two.
P.D.: bidet are not recommended for people with vagina, so the shower is a better option. Water flows and you can manage the power, is not going directly there (less infections)

@@Ellbat I feel the word has a connotation that refers to people using titles/thumbnails to create an expectation of the content and then not delivering on the promised content, but I think many people also use it in reference to optimizing titles/thumbnails to get clicks. In the latter, a person can clickbait while still delivering on the expectation. In that sense it’s not a negative thing and would arguably classify this title and thumbnail as the good kind of clickbait.

I was unfortunately banned from filming the common areas due to other guests privacy. There are a couple of shots of the lobby areas near the beginning of my talk about the hotel - but i had to take these at 2am in order to not film any other guests 😭

The 'shower' connected to the toilet is really common in middle eastern toilets. Usually we use water instead of toilet paper 😅

Huh two sinks is pretty standard here in Canada. And the shower in the tub just makes cleaning said tub a gazillion times easier but I have never seen the toilet shower lol
Apparently there's different styles of bidets. So you have two styles of them in one bathroom.
I enjoy occasionally staying in nicer hotels; overly fancy things make me too nervous.
a lot of grand hotels are designed for long-term stays, so that's why there's that much storage
that makes sense!!

My husband and I are cheapskates, we very rarely stay at hotels, but if we do stay at one for a night the one thing we will splash out on if possible is a hotel room with a spa bath 😍
Though, its getting harder and harder to find hotels that have them, so we don't often get to.
Other than that, as long as it's very clean and has wifi, that's all that matters to us 😊
