It's because of the recent fiascos with Mike Z and that recent update.
It made a LOT of longtime fans stop paying attention to the game. And the Mike Z situation is pretty misunderstood; that man is INNOCENT and we have the chat logs to prove it, so no you have an audience of people avoiding the game because they've been wrongly informed that it was made by a pervert and an audience of people who know better and refuse to play the game because the current shareholders literally conspired to steal his property from him and SUCCEEDED. Supporting Skullgirls is akin to supporting EA these days.
