  • This is a "No effort November" style look at a cheap fiber splicer that my little business purchased.
    I actually filmed this WELL over a year ago. The splicer has seen a good deal of use and is still going strong.
    Some of the little channel and personal details given at the end of this video are now different. Keep an eye out for another video to be posted very soon detailing the big changes and cool new things in my world.
    Thanks for watching!

    Hi, we are planning to use some leftover direct burial fiber in a project. This fiber is a 24 ribbon. If we separate the strands out and splice individually, I can't see why this machine wouldn't work. If it's 9/125 SM, the machine shouldn't really care about anything past the cladding, right?

      We've actually done this a time or two. Not ideal, but totally works!

      Yes you can split ribbon fibre and splice in a signal fibre splicer it just painstaking, I have done this in an emergency where I didn't have access to a ribbon splicer

    I am starting in this world of fiber, what ranges do you think are appropriate, 0.0db to 0.3db?

    • @user-pc9sq1wb6o
      @user-pc9sq1wb6o 6 місяців тому +1

      I started a little while ago. They say you can allow up to 0.05db, but anything beyond 0.02 I just do over.

    Absolutely love the video. You’re right. It’s a gamble gor the price, but pretty cheap and unbeatable compared to the alternatives

      it doesn't matter what NM is sent through the fibre, just need to know if it is SM or MM fibre

    When I put a Vfl on my fusion splices they are lit up slightly Is that normal?

    • @ConnorEhrgood
      @ConnorEhrgood  11 місяців тому +1

      Hmm... Generally our splices (all SM) are near zero loss and don't usually leak enough light from a VFL to be visible. I haven't looked at any in complete darkness, though.

      The fiber end face can and WILL get contaminated. I mean sure you can do whatever method you want at the end of the day…it’s not the common practice in the states however.

    You said cheap? 800? You are probably a millionaire

    • @ConnorEhrgood
      @ConnorEhrgood  Рік тому +11

      Ah, if only! Maybe some day, but definitely not today.
      These are just cheap compared to the bigger name ones that range in price from about $10,000 to $50,000.
      Definitely an investment for us, but one that's paid off pretty well so far!
