  • A level is a very important tool. And an inaccurate level is useless. So what level is durable and long lasting, without costing a fortune? Take a look to see what I have.

    Disclaimer: This is not a paid or sponsored review and I do not receive any compensation for my honest opinion. I paid full retail price for my tools many years ago and so you now get to see if my choice of levels was a good one or not. I am in no way encouraging purchasing from Lowes, but rather provide the links as information.

    The small level is useful when doing drainage. Due to its size and how tight a trench can be, it comes in handy for ground workers laying plastic pipes 👍

    I use my torpedo a lot. First of all it fits in the pouch. Second, with straight stuff it gives pretty good idea quickly. Great for electrical boxes, fixtures. I have a 6 ' straight edge and sometimes the torpedo is perfect to whip out with the straight edge. Really, you need a good torpedo, a 16-24" and a 4 foot.

    My johnson is only 5" long. What do I need to take to get a 6' johnson?

    The torpedo level is very useful. Im an electrician, we use them for bending conduit and leveling junction boxes.

    Thanks for the advice! Bought a Johnson after originally looking at yours and another video about Stabilia levels in addition to the other brands.

    I have a Johnson level from 1970. It’s still perfect.

    Craftsman was never bought by Lowes. It was most recently bought by Stanley Black & Decker.
    And no, it is not dumb to have a 45 degree angle bubble. That you don't use something doesn't mean that it's useless.

      That's true, SB&D did buy the brand. Lowes was the first major distribution deal.

      Contact Stabila. They are dead serious about their ten year warranty.

    Like many on the internet, you don't know much about you speak. A level's 45° vial is for setting bracing. When bracing a wall or partition, having the braces at 45° are the strongest and most effective. Now, you learned something.

    Very helpful thank you. I'm tossing up between the 60cm level vs 80cm level stabila. Only need for home usage... What do you think?

    • @savingmiller
      @savingmiller  2 роки тому +1

      I would think the 60 is good. Unless the price difference is negligible.

    • @MarcraM82
      @MarcraM82 2 роки тому

      @@savingmiller thanks so much..price difference is nearly the same (about $9 AUD) so I was unsure whether there is any advantage of the longer 80cm level?

    The angle is useful to measure driveway slopes and to position leaning-ladders at 4:1 ratios (75degs).

    • @savingmiller
      @savingmiller  2 роки тому

      This angle is 45 degrees though. Don't set a ladder or driveway at that kind of slope!

    • @fabianuriarte2519
      @fabianuriarte2519 2 роки тому

      @@savingmiller I assumed you had an adjustable angle level. But at 45-degs, you are right, that angle is almost useless.

    Box levels are used by masons, mainly six and eight foot units. All othe trades use "I" beam levels no longer than four foot. Torpedo levels are used by mechanical and electrical installers.

    I have a long level and a short level. I was always wondering about the 45 degree level. Always seemed pointless. I think I agree they are useless.
