I had the pleasure of seeing him perform on Friday at radio city music Hall. His music saved my life as a child. When my parents were fighting arguing, I would lock myself in my room and play my fathers albums to drain the screams out I’m 51 years old today and I cried like a baby when he came out, this was my number one. Wish was to see him perform live. I took my daughter with me that’s 31 years old and it made me feel so good when she started singing your songs and you all the words put me because I did that she grew up, listening to his music because of me. Barry, you will never know how much your music that’s affected my life and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that that was the best concert I’ve ever been to and I had the best time of my life on Friday. Thank you Barry Manilow thank you Barry Manilow.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Same childhood story...but this song made me think that someday I'd find a way to write my own song of my life for the betterment of me and the world ❤
I experienced the same thing, but every time I listen to this song, I always try to bring the best happiness to the family At most it's just the wife who often gets angry with the children, but every Saturday and Sunday, the four of us are obliged to go out together, eat deliciously together, and try not to make a fuss over the food. I will always try to be a better father, I don't want to repeat the suffering I experienced in my childhood I will write a good history for the family I built, I will make the family happy before I breathe my last breath
It is precisely two years since this was posted, synchronistically. I remember hearing this on PA systems when it was popular, and it was unavoidable. In those days pop music was unavoidable. I was a student of classical 'cello and a freshman in college. Listening to the words I thought, then, how arrogant to write as if all music comes from this one human. . . I did not know Manilow went to school where he did. I dismissed it as an overplayed pop earworm. But today I stumbled onto this video for the first time and really listened, and looked at the song from a different perspective, from an archetypal POV. With the orchestra, live, hearing that last held vowel and his powerful voice, and I have to thank him. This is a great song, most meaningful lyrically, and it isn't just the young girls who respond with tears. Thank you Barry Manilow, musicians and crew, thank you all.

Barry Manilow is the greatest showman! I feel for people who don’t understand Barry because they are missing the best of the best. A Fanilow over 40 years 💗💗💝💝
You're so right. I have just seen him again in Manchester UK - he was absolutely amazing!!! Some people laugh but they certainly don't know what they have missed x
I would have given anything to watch this when I was 12. I just loved him so much. And he wasn’t really a teen idol so there weren’t many pictures of him or anything. He never came to my area in concert either. But this would have made me so happy. That love I felt at 12 still lingers and I’m now 58
I get all leaky-eyed when I watch this. Barry, dear, my life's soundtrack is FILLED with your songs. This song, along with "One Voice" were instruments of racial harmony when I was in middle school. We would ALL sing your songs together in choir and then, when the bell rang, our harmonies would spill out through the hallways and others would join in! Bless you bless you bless you!!!!
No one sings this like Barry - He's the Boss. Thank God he's still performing, he is without question one of the absolute top, all-time greats. We shall not see his like again!

Barry, when I needed inspiration I found it in your music, in your way of singing, in how you perform, in your smile, in your existence. Thank you because I feel peace and inspiration every time I listen to you. ❤
I've always loved Barry Manilow since I was a little girl and heard Mandy and Could it be Magic, i remember my lovely mom brought me his Greatest Hits album one Christmas, i was probably about 11 or 12 at the time, I just loved his voice, his looks and showmanship ❤ x
I miss the old days. Even the days before I was born. I don't know. Some songs make me feel that way. I just wanna watch people (people before me) going somewhere while I sit in a corner of a nice coffee shop.

I’ve been a fan since my first concert in 1978 (I think)! He’d had a few hits on the local radio and my sister and I bought his first album . Wish he’d come back to this store and perform - it’s been eons
You're amazingly talented Barry, and I've enjoyed your music since I was very young. Ty so much for the wonderful music and all the great memories it brings. I will ALWAYS love you. I wish I could've met you and seen you in person when you came to Lynn, Massachusetts. That's where I live. God Bless you Barry, now and always!!
You just don’t get talent like this any more. The apex of vulnerability. The risks he takes with the change of key and everything even just being him and his piano at times. His back up singers were amazing and so was the band. The audience didn’t know they were going to witness musical perfection that night but they did.

Today, these lyrics would be perceived as the height of narcissism.
In my day, the artist was a grateful, one of many.
Would they though? The song is about music, not about Barry. Barry is singing as music personified, what music would sing about.
