Stihl 088 vs Husky 395 X-TRA POWER

This saw-off was filmed the following day where we watched the Psy-Ko 661 running pretty close to the 088 while having the "worser" of the knot section.

Here we have the "in pretty good condition" 088 running 1st. It's next in the succession from what the 661 had the day before. Gains ~ a second in time getting through the cuts. Which corroborates my statements in the 088 vs 661 saw-off as well as this showing.
KNOTS,,, the great equalizer, time loser, power robber...
42" of .404 chain. For saws, that chain is also the great equalizer, power robber, and time loser.
As mentioned, I was super well pleased with the outcome of the Franken395XP. After a few convos with the owner, we decide to give a thought I had for making a bit "mo' powa" a whirl.
There is absolutely no doubt that the 395 had the worst of this session seen ripping through over a foot of knot.
Exploring the tech data:
Stihl 088 factory rated at 8.6 hp in stock trim.
The powerhead weighs 26 fully laden with gas & oil.
Bore & stroke @ 60mm x 43mm netting 121.58cc of piston displacement.
Husqvarna 395XP factory rated at 6.6hp
The powerhead weighs 21.6 pounds fully laden with gas & oil.
Husky 395xP @ 56mm x 38mm netting 93.59cc of piston displacement.
Looking at the timed runs:
Stihl 088 at 11,580 went 30.23 down and 30.65 up
Husky 395 at 13,560 went 25.35 down and 25.16 up
If a guy wanted to talk about the "little saw" that could, this might just be it.
Since this is a "Franken" build, and it is on the ragged edge, I wanted to give the owner plenty of time to use this 395xp. See if there were any bugs the need to be worked out if you will.
With any luck the owner will chime in on his thoughts.

I need a Stihl 088. No Son, what you need is a tweaked Husky 395, unless you like cutting slower and carrying around an extra 4.4 pounds.

I run a 372xp best saw ever for me also own a 51 husky great saw and a 134 husky ! Nothing i cut would need a 42 inch bar to cut i do own a 36 inch bar for the 372 xp but have only used it once in 15 years but thanks for the video

Shame they quit making the 395. Not crazy about autotune or purge bulbs. Long bar, 404 chain, and knots too? That 395XP is truly Extra Power! Might even make a zipped 2100 a little nervous.
Scott hi. Agreed. Completely not in favor of the "let's add in another failure point" design. Especially the purge bulbs, or in the case of the 5ooi it's primer system, because they are going to fail. What non West Coast timber fallers (engineering) miss is that you can be in the bottom of a yarder block, maybe 3000 feet down. Those bulbs are going to fail after being left over night in the fall or winter, 1st thing when a guy tries to get started in the morning - not 2" from the tailgate of the truck. The smog saws run hot. Maybe more time ($) should be spent on figuring out a way to dissipate the heat...
I've taken my 2100 about as far as can be for a work type saw. This 395 will take in.

Yessir, expensive saws to have to work on all the time, purge bulbs, the weak mounts, and the inconvenience of having to pack em out makes me satisfied with our 2 series Huskies and 0 series Stihls. Except they're getting some age on them but they're still going strong. You've probably been asked before but which is your favorite, 394 or 395?
@@scottw.2450 hi. I can get more out of the 395. The carb being rubber mounted is a nice upgrade. The 2 series Husky with the "insulation block", that is the intake manifold, were hard on carburetors "innards".
The bash plate on the front left was nice at saving the flywheel side case ½ from a bonk.
I had a 394 in '92 they were a good saw. I think that the 395 is a bit better.

That 395 sounds like a mean knot eating animal thats been in hibernation all winter and something woke it up and it won't be satisfied until there's woodchips piled for miles!

Nice video Jack. What do you use for a raker gauge? I have switched to the west coast saw dept plate. It has .025, .035, .045, .050 settings.

Bryan hi. As mentioned, I usually just take them down in the woods after running the chain a bit.
The gauges are nice for having a smooth chain. But, I cannot tell exactly where the stops need to be until having ran the chain in the application. I modded my Carlton File-o-plate accordingly.
I'm not real big on the company philosophy over there. I'll be spending my dollars elsewhere.

Brian hi. Seemed like a question - worded as a statement. I build saws that can be taken in the woods and will work felling timber. They do flow better, yes. They are fire safe, which is important in this day and age.

Do you know the guy in California that was rebuilding 394-395? He was selling his service on Ebay, send the saw to him and have him send it back complete?

I neither know him or have heard of him.
I'd be careful in a situation like that. I'd want to know actually what is getting "rebuilt". Also keep in mind that eBay charges a nice amount in their fees for all transactions on that site. I'd rather have that money going to the cost of parts personally.
And nowadays it seems like there are a fair number of parts swappers that are frequenting eBay. Cannot let you guard down there.
If you want some one doing a job like that that is reputable, with a long history of rebuilding saws, I'd contact Mike at Madsen's in Centralia Wa. 800 822 2808.

e esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
que isto sirva de exemplo para toda humanidade e você que é tão jovem tem que saber a verdade respeite bem os mais velhos não brinque com sua idade uma pessoa idosa também tem utilidade é um diamante valioso se não tivesse o idoso não teria mocidade
