Pure gold lesson! Studying Whit's style has been a tremendous aid to my development as a swing/western swing comper. He's one of the best, most authentic players today in this traditional approach.
You showed me more in 5 minutes and explained it to where I finally got the message!!!!!!!!!❤ I’ve taken swing guitar for a short time with Justin Branum out of Nashville but didn’t understand what he was doing and I’ve played for over 50 years but not this style. Thank you sir !!!!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
This is PERFECT!!! Sir, you just upped my guitar playing in ONE LESSON! Thank You!! Now, who in their right-mind thought to give this a "thumbs-down?" That smells like the very strong odor of jealousy!!!
It feels good to listen and to see your hands and fingers move for such long takes. Soft and smooth from the heart, precious for those who learn by feel, thank you! :)
Saw Cowtown in a small patio in Paonia, Colorado once. they were playing a much bigger show that night for the county. Most amazing trio I swear. This guy, as the other two, are at the top of the game. Superb playing, technique and taste. Every song ... so lush.
My meditation 🧘 zone I suffer from extreme pain I learned to infuse my meditation and guitar playing, I can play various chords and rhythm 🎶 for several hours always listening for new beat’s 👂🏼👂🏼😌
Whit Smith, Matt Munisteri, and Jordan Officer. Its pretty simple really just spend the next hundred, ehhhh maybe two hundred, years only studying those guys and you'll have a pretty good foundation :D
Not sure if you have another site with notation & theory? But if No. I recommend adding visual aids to your lessons, which will assist in so many ways, time sigs, and chord progression breakdowns & why. This would help players newto Western swing, but coming from other genres...👍😃🎸🎼🎶🎵
it's an Fmaj 7 - if you l play an Fmaj 7 at the 5th fret and drop your pinkie to the E on the 7th fret 5th string (which means you now have two Es in the inversion) then its the sane as an Am. Also A minor is relative minor of F.
@@TheJazzcritic Actually Am is relative to C Major. Am, Cmaj6, Fmaj7 chords have the same triad. C,E,A. What determines which chord is which is determined by the bass note. Example: F bass note with A,E,C triad = Fmaj7 chord. The cool thing knowing this is you can play your Aminor licks over Fmaj7 or Cmaj6 licks and they sound awesome. All those licks are actually interchangeable over all 3 chords.
@@craigparker1146 the 3 minor in the key of C is E minor. That triad with a C in the bass gives you a Cmaj 7 chord. So that basically means that all of your Cmaj7 licks work over E minor and vice versa
Are you really teaching people to fret with their thumbs to play rhythm guitar? Sorry, that seems self-taught and unnecessary… You can go back to Freddie Greene to see a much easier way to do that. 😉

My friend you are so inspiring and equally, you are the best. Thank you so much for these postings.
I'm glad to find this video! I was searching for more videos on Whit Smith's style and found this.
Whit, you're one of my favorite players in this style! Thanks for the lesson.
Really well presented!! Thank you!
I love this stuff! Cool chords. Now subbed.

After all these years . . . lol That primer fundamentally changed my playing with stuff I already know.
Roly Poly! I like to add some of the Django 6ths in there too

Did you just invent advanced lessons for beginners?
You are amazing
I just joined for a year through Patreon.
Delightful
You play more inversions than I know chords.
Five years later this is still funny
I'd buy it if I could find it ...
Great
took me a minute, but I got it.
Can someone please tell what guitar brand / model With Smith is playing on?
A Gibson l5 .its really old and refinished!
@@mikarrrrrrgh1969 Mika, Thanks. Oh well, a real classic guitar played by a real master.
@@arjenverhoeff8912 Yes!, i can only dream of guitar like this and his skills
Which Gibson model is that? L4? L7?
According to the text at the linked website, it's an L5.
👍
What guitar is that?
Whit is playing his 1929 Gibson L-5
At 4:03 when an Fm7 looks like an Am ... confused me.

@@fiddlefolk right. F to A- was 4 to 6-. I was thinking that was pretty close to 1 to 3-
I thought I was a good rhythm guitarist until I watched this
