    I love the way Gert interacts with the assembly, relaxes them with his joyful charm, enabling the people to sing up when the moment comes. His courtesy and sweet nature is a joy to watch. And this, in addition to his confident musicianship.

    A great personality. Full of joy and life. Gert is, of course a fine musician growing and developing all the time. It's good to be played to by a person of such genuine happiness.

    With the Netherlands having a great tradition of group singing, I'd like to hear congregations sing out here in the US like that. I do believe only some really have the way of playing that can bring out the best and real desire to sing and not be timid. You definitely have that gift. "Music is organized sound" and "Music is what feelings sound like." You've got it all covered!

      Attend a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod service in the USA that has a pipe organ and you will hear the congregation sing. Remember Lutheranism was the church of J.S. Bach. The Lutheran Church has a rich tradition of wonderful organ music and hymns all focused on the Triune God. Soli Deo Gloria

      Bryce I agree. I am an organist at an LCMS Lutheran church an it is so rewarding to hear the congregation sing out and sometimes louder than full organ. A church not too far from mine where my teacher is organist and director of music also has an excellent music program and many musicians and a fairly large choir. I’ve been making a tradition of Bach at my church because the other organists don’t play Bach

    I admire & repeat all your videos, Gert, & can never decide which one is my favourite. But this Psalm improvisation "met samenzang" is more powerful than ever. I can now decifer quite a bit of written Dutch because I know German, but just wish I could understand what you say. One of my many reasons for often going back to The Making of Premiere was that there was an English translation. But I can´t expect this every time and will be content with your wonderful playing & happy smile. You bring joy to me in my old age. Happy birthday sometime this month. I think you´ll be 21. Best wishes for the coming year. Love. Margaret..

    How many times have I listened and thought this one's the best yet? Gert, you just keep getting better and better. So glad we have you to turn to considering what's happened to church "music" these days.

      +Sonia Carlson Are you familiar with the Ruffatti organ at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church? You wouldn't believe the prelude someone "played" this morning. Awful. Simply awful. What a waste. No melody to be found anywhere. Not worshipful at all. Set my teeth on edge. At least I attend online and and tune it out.

    Does this organ have reed stops?
    Small organs have at least one reed, the 8 foot oboe.
    Nice use of the tremulant.
    Well played Gert. I love how well you interact with the congregation, putting them at ease and encouraging them to sing along as you are playing.

    I'm kind of glad you picked the key you did for the fanfare. The higher key seems to make more sense for a smaller instrument. (My only comparison is hearing it done that way on a single manual reed organ, though. Make of that what you will.)

    So far, only 5 ass-holes have managed to find and 'dislike' this video! (Well, you can't please all of the people, all of the time.)
    Gert has now reached the stage where the music just pours from his fingers, through the keys and out of the pipework, like turning on a tap (or, rather, a waterfall.) In addition to a remarkable talent, this must be the tip of the iceberg which balances on many thousands of hours of practice.
    A remarkable performance. Many thanks for the upload.

      Offshoreorganbuilder -- the five posters you note are probably from the same anxious group who used to advise Gert to quit playing in Nike shoes and to buy "organ shoes". While his feet were small enough so he could play in athletic shoes, it was part of his 'cool'...he and Jan fully in charge of the organ loft with older organists watching in quiet awe. Still great to see and hear.

    the Enlish rhyming is as follows:
    42:1
    As a deer will thirst in anguish
    for refreshing water brooks,
    so for you, O God, I languish;
    so my soul for comfort looks
    to the living God above.
    How I thirst for his great love!
    When shall I appear before him
    and within his courts adore him?
    :3
    O my soul, why are you grieving,
    why disquieted in me?
    Put your hope in God, believing
    he will still your refuge be.
    I again shall see his face
    and extol him for his grace.
    He will show his help and favour,
    for he is my God and Saviour.
    :5
    But the LORD will send salvation
    and by day his love maintain;
    he will grant me preservation,
    and I will rejoice again.
    I will sing and pray at night
    to the God of life and light.
    He will in his mercy hear me
    and for evermore be near me.
    Delightful accompaniment and singing of a psalm of comfort for the troubled or anxious heart!
    Small but very nice organ!

    small organ....big sound as only you can provide...excellent....
    ◔̯◔ Question....I notice most of the organs you play are tracker type.....Do they have hand-pumps (for the bellows) in case the electric power blower fails?? ◔̯◔
    klein orgaan .... groot geluid als alleen jij kan bieden ... uitstekend ....
    ◔̯◔ Vraag .... Ik merk het merendeel van de organen die u speelt zijn van het type tracker ..... Hebben ze handpompen (voor de balg), in het geval de stroom uitvalt blower ?? ◔̯◔

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder 9 років тому +1

      J.R. Zippie I cannot answer your question directly, having no experience of Dutch organ, but I do know that of the 50 or so organs I maintain, many are Victorian tracker organs and some still have their hand-blowing gear. I have *never* in over 30 years, heard of one which used the hand-blower due to a failure of the electric blower. This may have happened, of course, but it would be very unusual, and with the age of congregations what it is now, who could be found to work the blowing lever?!

    • @jrzzrj
      @jrzzrj 9 років тому

      thank you for your answer...I hope you appreciated my "off-the -wall" question...but now I understand more about the differences of a tracker vs electric pipe organ...as far as where to get "pumper helpers"...they are called "volunteers"...and maybe here in America, one would welcome the opportunity to be of such service, should the need arise........at least, I hope so.....◔̯◔

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder 9 років тому

      J.R. Zippie I think the 'volunteers' would soon get tired of the job, though it would be a useful way to 'work out.'
      When they were common, the human organ-blowers were called just that - organ-blowers - in much the same way that a 'type-writer' used to be the person, not the machine he or she operated. It is usual, even now in the case of old organs, to find that they have scratched their names behind the casework, as something to do between hymns.
      Incidentally, there is no correlation between a tracker action organ and an electric or electro-pneumatic organ, so far as the blowing goes. Many new tracker organs are built, and these will virtually all have electric blowers. (Though there have been instances of an electric blower for practising, and the hand-blower being provided for performance, as (believe it or not) the hand-blowing does affect the sound in a different way to the electric blower, and if you want a more 'authentic' performance you might want a hand-blower!)
      On the same subject, you might like to see: www.ibiblio.org/eldritch/owh/blow.html

    • @jrzzrj
      @jrzzrj 9 років тому

      very interesting info...i do appreciate your effort to inform me and am learning from it...i was assuming that no electric is needed to play the tracker action/keys/stops....only for the blower motor. I know there are trackers that do use electric for some stop action/presets etc.....anyway, you can blame Gert for all this interest, as I have followed his superb performances for quite sometime now and not only watched him grow from a child to a handsome young man but also to a master of the organ.....again, thanks for your help...
