technically the scapper jingle does get the bonus points as the Salmonids and Octarian trade with eachother so yea, the reason it has the motifs technically makes sense in lore lol.
That's the English title at least. In the Japanese version it's called #47 slumber. Personally I think I prefer the onward title, but slumber fits the song too.
That's what I love about Side Order. Octo Expansion implied that once they heard the Calamari Inkantation, that was it for their home and friends. Is that really what we wanted for the Octarians, to be left powerless and divided because of a land dispute 100 years ago? (That's seemingly been reversed by now)
The way that you framed it is reminded me how the LGBT community was able to reclaim the world queer. (I’m not gay myself, but I just reminded me of that)
It's so cool cuz the music for the Memverse was presumably composed by Marina (or at least by some AI she created such as Order) so it makes sense why it would sound similar to other Octarian tracks
To me it's specifically the octarians, sad that that inklings don't have a motif of their own, tho makes sense why the octos have them and the squids don't, the octos have their own massive community underground basically always connected to each other, while the squids are everywhere on earth with a community bubble everywhere

@@komati7046Yeahh there were a few missed from side order lol. For example, 2ouvenir has got a pretty obvious one appox. 45 seconds into it. There was another one in some of the other floor/stage music, but I'd need to listen to them again lol
There's also Onward about halfway through Eight-Legged Advance (as a quiet background loop), one in Tidal Rush (more so the rhythm but appears about thirty seconds before the loop), and it appears in every Side Order elevator theme! At least, elevator themes 1-4. Maybe the 5th one too, but I haven't listened to it much. But it's GREAT that you found the more subtle ones that so many people miss like in Octarmaments, and including the Inkopolis Memorial Mixtape!!!!
I LOVE MOTIFS SO MUCH THEY’RE SO COOL. And this one is just absolutely amazing. When I started side order I just ran around trying to hear the motif. I was hyped when I heard it during the marina fight
ive always been a huge fan of this leitmotif, and the usages of it in the two side order boss themes shown are some of the most joy ive gotten hearing it, not only do i find it delightful to hear it but it also sounds so damn good in the songs!!
I love how the only boss theme that doesn’t have it is Ech0 0nslaught… because Parallel Canon isn’t reminiscent of an Octarian machine, but rather is based on Agent 4 (and possibly the Agent 3 / Inner Agent 3 fights from Octo Expansion)

How they continue after the motif in Cold Storage is so fascinating, feels like such a natural continuation! Kinda cool that they're still using and building upon it even still now.
I love this video, and I love YOU. Thank you for compiling this short but catchy leitmotif. It’s weirdly danceable, too. It just makes me want to move… onward.
Anybody hear the theory about how the metallic wisps on Free Association album cover are the souls of the octolings who wish to maintain order and that they in turn are the group Free Association because all Splatoon music is diegetic? This would mean that the motif has been re-appropriated by the "Orderlings" as a symbol of the solace that once came with the regimented octo society. Very strange stuff.
I've been calling this the "Octarian Motif" up to now for lack of a better name. Love that the Scrapper machine has it too since the Salmonids are using Octarian tech. Also love that the motif shows up all over Side Order since Memverse was designed by Marina and parameterized by the Octarian Engineers.

Its inclusion in side order makes me wonder if the onward motif was always meant to represent control… or maybe it’s just there to connect the memverse to Marina?
I think you are actually missing one here, although its so brief I cant blame anyone for missing it! It plays in one of the songs from the ∞-ball levels (2ouvenir). About 49 seconds in and again at 53 seconds and then a few more times. It plays really fast, like, less than a second each time and they remix it so that it sounds pretty different. I only noticed it today after listening to the songs again!
I F*CKING LOVE MOTIFS, I LOVE WHEN A PIECE OF MUSIC IS REFERENCED THROUGHOUT FUTURE SONGS. Bonus points if it's relevant to the plot.
Ok but you gotta admit that the Scrapper Jingle is peak
the scrapper jingle absolutely slaps

My fav is when Link’s theme plays at the boss’s vulnerable part in TP
