The technology is the easy bit. Getting the technology past government safety is almost impossible for a full autopilot system.

I doubt this was a "normal series" car = I wonder how much of that was pre-programmed; or rather: how many times did a tesla with all cameras on go on this road, and how much manual programming went into this car until the software was savvy enough to handle exits, ramps, red-lights etc.
Pre-programmed? Did you not see it stop, check for traffic, see the traffic, stop, and go when it was clear? Or the time it was clear and it pulled out, made sure, then went?

Autopilot, the version that is on the cars for consumers is not made for off highway use, although it can be, it is not advised. Normal autopilot requires you to touch the steering wheel every few minutes, and will not stop for stop signs, red lights, or read any street signs other than speed limits. Possible release for this update 2-3 years (as the other comment mentioned).

Oh my God the, the number of idiotic comments is staggering, first off this presentation was almost 2 years ago, so this is not something new, Secondly we have been told by Tesla that all 2017 and above models would get the the infrastructure for level 5 autonomous driving (a.k.a self driving, not Autopilot) in order for the cars to benefit from that service when it is ready and legal to be used. of course the service will be sold and not just handed over freely to all users.
