It's been one week since Russia invaded Ukraine and attacks are intensifying on key cities.
Russian advances have slowed in many places, revealing an army struggling to make progress.
Reports suggest Russian troops near the capital Kyiv have barely advanced in the past 48 hours.
Instead, bombardments have started, as seen in the seizure of of a key port city in southern Ukraine, Kherson.
Does the Russian military has the will, means and agility to finish off this campaign?

I love the guys who took the tank. It just solidifies my love for Eastern Europeans in general. My heart breaks for the people of Ukraine, but also the average Russian. Putin has tanked his own country. Sure, he's got experience, but I think he may be losing his mind. I have friends in Russia, and they're good people. No one wanted this.
I'm Russian and neither me or anybody in my circle wants the war. Putin and his subordinates will be judged as war criminals, which will finally mean freedom for us and relief for anybody he schemed on. I feel shame that me and him are countrymen.
Its not the people who promote endless war its our corrupt leaders whether they be Russian, European or American who profit and control their populations by propaganda and lies. The people need to have their voice heard as we can see in Canada the West is not much different in suppressing public protest than Russia.

They actually do have the means to fight them - but they're organized enough to not attack envoys who communication may be critical - in Konotops situation, it is. The town is encircled and would turn into a artillery crucible if they attack russian troops. Initially the mayor said they'd fight them the whole way, but facing annihiliation, the Russians agreed that the civil services would not be replaced, that Konotop could still hoist the flag of Ukraine, and that they'd not attack Russian troop movements. Konotop has essentially agreed to a white peace for the time being.

Now that we are able to communicate and get the opportunity to learn about each other's countries because of social media we all have gained new friends and nobody wants war anymore. In this modern age, the real savages are the rulers greedy for power and influence that they create bloody wars like this... certainly millions of innocent people that live there lives day to day and are living for basic needs like shelter and food...they don't want anything to do with this large scale violence. Most of the Russians who've been captured are very young, early 20s at the oldest, i suspect they didn't have much training or don't care about the mission because they were lied to and thus don't care to follow protocol. They might've even lied and said the tank broke down just so they didn't have to advance.

Military service is compulsory in Russia. For all males who turn 18 onwards, for at least two years. These are littearlly just kids who went from school to being told 'Now go invade your neighbours' out of nowhere. These arent 'soldiers' these are just the cheapest option putin saw.

Isn't the large convoy just setting up a FOB? Their fighting vehicles only have a relatively short range, especially under combat conditions - they would need a nearby supply depot at pretty much the exact place that the head of the convoy has 'stalled'.

I thought that about these reports of the huge convoy outside Kyiv. The media keep breathlessly reporting how it's growing longer and scarier. But surely all that means is that more and more vehicles are joining the back of it while the front doesn't move. It doesn't take 4 days to drive from Belarus to Keiv. Seems to me less like a convoy and more like a traffic jam
And it doesn't take 4 days to drive 20 km from the front of the line to Kyiv.
Clearly don't understand what is needed for all those vehicles. Have to stop and refuel two or three times along the way, and there's thousands to refill.
They will encircle kyiev in the next week or so, and cut them off from everything.

We are kind of screwed in western Canada , let me explain. NATO's missile defense system is mainly set up to intercept missiles coming over the north pole . All the radiation fallout from these intercepted ICBM's will rain down on Canada and the Jetstream will disperse the remainder over the entire country.

Spring thaw on roads in addition to obstacles and sabotage. 7 Ukraine's employment of specialist "mercenary" operatives with latest anti armour, anti air and allied equipment. 8. Civilian resistance. 9. Resolute Ukrainian leadership 10. Support of EU neighbour countries in refugee welfare. 11. Lack of synergy of Russian forces due to potential for Human Rights violations on their own fraternal demography type.

Do you know anything about staging for an operation? Kiev is going to become a seige, this build up is the logistics train, troops, reserves, and infrastructure that'll be needed to conduct it. When you're staging tens of thousands of troops, it takes time and coordination between everyone in the operation, especially in a dynamic enviornment.

Exactly, my finance thinking head said that the US and European governments are telling everyone that they can't buy rubles or Russian stocks or all these things and I think they're secretly buying them because everyone really thinks that the ukrainians are going to win this war when anyone who has a realistic view of just how many troops and weapons and systems and advantages the Russians have not yet deployed, I would be very surprised if South and East Ukraine are not flying Russian flags and having a Russian empire in them again in the next few weeks.
The Russians will take the East ans South for sure. But can they keep it? There are so many modern anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles in the hands of Ukrainians that there could be an ambush behind every corner. If the major cities fall to Russian hands the insurgency phase of the war begins. Russians will not be able to move, resupply, fly or drive betweem towns.
Road-side bombs, IEDs, ambushes. Russia can't get anything valuabe out of Ukraine. Even supporting the Donbass puts a huge strain on Russia's budget. Occupied Eastern and Southern Ukraine would be even more draining on Russia's resources. They can occupy half of Ukraine for a year or two, then what? Thousands of Russian soldiers will die. And Ukrainian resistance fighters, insurgents will assassinate those who co-operare with the Russian invaders. Sabotage, assassination, ambush, disobedience. Just like partizans or the French Resistance against under Nazi occupation.

People think it’s crazy how soldiers don’t understand what is going on, but being in the military when there is a huge operation of 200,000 soldiers units get lost in the sauce really quick. There is a lot of moving pieces that have to move quickly and orders may get misinterpreted details not accounted things can get crazy fast. And all these things compound exponentially.

Do some deep research into history. Ukraine has vast reserves of oil and gas, and Russia wants it. There is also an issue of water, and Ukraine blocking access. There is a lot more to this story, google it.
