    Thanks, been waiting for a Winter Season Video. Glad I made the correct choice in placing the smaller Maples in my Garage for protection until next year.

    Nice collection and greenhouse. I just got all my trees into the greenhouse. I am in a very wet kind of zone 7 here. The trees dont have as much problem with low temperature as with constant wetness. The greenhouse is for protection from rain rather than cold.

      Thanks, it's also very wet here in the PNW during the winter so it makes sense!

    Japanese maples are hardy trees and they can survive cold temp. if they are in a bigger container. It´s only over a longer periode of time with hard frost, you have to action. Of course the small maple bonsai is another story.

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  4 роки тому +1

      Yes you are right - that's why most of the nursery stock JMs with larger container will remain outside on the ground.

    I am told the increase the chance of survival rate, I should keep little cuttings in my garage. I currently don't have a green house yet. My question is, do I need to add a glow light or anything?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  2 роки тому +1

      no they dont need much light during dormancy. Air circulation would be helpful to avoid fungal issues.

    My dream is to have a maple bonsai because here in the Philippines there's no maple here growing.

      It's a bit tough to grow Japanese maples (Acer Palmatum) as they need to go dormant during the winter. Hope you can find some maples that can grow in a warmer climate!

    I need to get my hands on a Shin Deshojo. Do you sell any of your seedlings or cuttings?

      Not currently. However you can find them at various nurseries.

    What is the best temperature range do you keep for maple in your greenhouse during winter? Also what humidity level inside? Thanks

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  2 роки тому

      Nothing scientific but I usually keep my unheated greenhouse above 35F or so during the winter. It sometimes goes below 32F but not too worried if it don't last too long. I frequently open the door when possible to increase air flow to minimize risk of fungal issues.

    Not sure I understand why to remove its leaves by hand? Why not wait until they fall off on its own; or just manyally remove remaining ones in the spring...? Thanks.

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  3 роки тому

      You can definitely leave them alone and let the leaves fall nanturally. I do that a lot. I sometimes remove them by hand if I want to keep the yard clean & move them to my greenhouse and no having to worry about cleaning up the greenhouse later.

    Can I keep a small japanese maple indoors? 19-20 degrees? Maybe for this winter I can just stick it outside in the ground?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  4 роки тому

      Assuming it's in F, I would keep it indoors where the temperature is nicely cold around 40F if possible.

      No problem, Japanese Maples are outdoor plants so you want to keep them outside as much as possible. That's a perfect temperature for maples being outside.

    What would you recommend for a trident maple forest in the pnw winter? I just got a trident bonsai forest from Kim’s bonsai in Phelen CA and will have it home in the pnw soon. How should I winter this bonsai? The trees are about 1/2- 1” diameter. 15 trees in the forest total. Thanks in advance for any advice!

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Carlos! Looks like you got a nice big forest! Assuming they are planted in a shollow pot, I would protect them in an unheated greenhouse or garage during the winter. I would start exposing to outside sun and air starting early Feb. Hope this helps!
