This was the Baby Shark of the 70's...😅
Pretty much.
We didn't take ourselves quite so seriously back then. Lighthearted fun.
The incredulous look on your face was hilarious.
I was cracking up at ypur reactions. you have to lived thru the 70s to get it . i did. LOL!
I was 17, high on Hash and laughing my head off... I loved this song.. hahaha
The look on your face!😂❤
This always reminds me of one of the weirdest movies "Howard the Duck".
The expression on your face was the exact one I had as an 8 year old kid when I heard this.
This song was also in Saturday Night Fever! It was the silliest biggest hit in the disco era 😂
Congratulations on not vomiting during the video.😂
THE STREAK NEXT but at least it was hilarious!
It was number 1 on the Billboard 100. It was huge and it was a song created for fun and not to be taken seriously.
This was a No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached No. 6 in the UK.😆
The dancers were nothing to do with the band but were the regular dance troupe on a weekly chart show in the UK. Their choreographer, Flick Colby, was famous for her overly literal interpretations of songs.
American Bandstand had Rick Dees performing the song on an episode and this video version makes the song look respectable in comparison.
He had someone dressed in a chicken suit and a duck puppet mouthing the Donald Duck part
😂😂 in the black rollerskating ring we use to jam to this on skates flapping our as i grew up in the 70s we had so much fun rollerskating 😂😂
I loved this song growing up!!! I had the album!!! This took me back to my childhood!!!! Thank you!!!!
That look of absolute horror as the duck shows up 😂😂
It's like Marlon Brando in apocalypse now ....the horror. The horror
As a kid, this was well known. A hit.
This was Ricks follow up to his huge success of Disco Duck ------- Rick Dees: Dis-Gorilla
Rick Dees was a dee jay back in the day that did voices, the duck noise here, and seemingly did this recording that took off. The demise of the good music disco gave us.
KTLA 102.7 I think
It was number 1 in October 1976 for one week. Yes it really was!
I remember when this song was on the airwaves because I lived in LA and Rick Dees was a DJ for KISSFM and yeah it played on the radio for a while. It was just as bad back then just as it is now.
There are about 4 different versions of the Disco Duck with Rick Dees that will make you roll over .
They play this on continuous loop in hell.
This song was the Party Rock Anthem of 1977
Jay-Z's "Run This Town" has duck sounds as well. 😂
I actually loved this song when it came out...
But I was like ten...😂 🦆
This is truly a front runner for the worst song ever created. It’s undeniable awful!
Supposedly it went number one on the charts in the US. Don’t ask me how, but there’s even a movie called disco duck where the main character is a walking talking duck.
of all the incredible music that came out out the 70's - They made this a No1. Next time somebody asks Why does today's Top 10 suck we can confidently reply; cos it always has.
I’ve still got this on vinyl. It’s on a compilation album that came out in the 70,s called Teaser that my parents originally owned. The rest of the album had some good songs.
Star Wars theme by Meco (Also check out the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind) - Everything was turned to Disco. The Ventures did a disco version of the Star Trek theme. It's not necessarily that it was bad, but that it was everywhere!
The bass line and the butts were cool lol
The video was so silly that I had to laugh.
The song is pretty bad, I will give you that. But it isn't the worst. That title is shared by the Macarena, Hollaback Girl, and the Ketchup Song.
You forgot Kung Fu Fighting song
No! Went number 1 in 1976. Great memories!
Check out 5000 Volts and their big hit I'm On Fire from 1975. Fronted by Tina Charles who was not publicly acknowledged as the vocalist because of some contractual problems. There are different versions on UA-cam. One of the featuring Luan Peters who lip sync the voice of Tina Charles
Exactly my thoughts when it came out.
I'm not sure I'm gonna make it through this! Lol! This was disturbing! I don't think I ever saw the video! The song was horrible enough!
This was NOT ABOUT the musicianship or the singing! This was just about letting loose, being silly & HAVING FUN!! - something your generation & those around you don't seem to know about anymore with all your gun violence, school shootings etc. - things we never had - maybe BECAUSE we let loose in SILLY ways (vs. violent ways). This song was even more silly if you listened to the lyrics. It always made people laugh & smile - & TRUST ME - that is actually a good thing to feel!
Music can be therapeutic - & this song WAS that! Nobody I ever knew was not smiling or having their mood lightened by the weirdness & silliness of this song!
I was a child in the 70s when this was out so I automatically LOVED IT - but so did the adults!
No its awesome.
The dancers in hot pants 👀👀
How this song was a #1 hit at one point is beyond me. More like "Disco F*ck."
It was all in fun it was not the greatest song in the world it was something to laugh at with your friends when it came on the radio or the video came on
now you know why there were those of us who hated disco.
Laugh Chod. It's funny. You're supposed to say now that's hilarious!
If you're looking for another WTF song, try Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through the Tulips." It's a 1929 song that he recorded in 1968 and made him a (brief) star.
I could see children singing this, it could a catchy tune for them. Unfortunatly, I do remember this song. LoL.🤎🎶🫶
This reminds me of Saturday Night Fever. John Travolta did a dance to it. The dancing is great, the song not so much. 😂😂
Uh, NO. It's not serious. Dees created this as a parody of Disco. That's why he named them "The Cast of Idiots". Remember, Rick Dees as a DJ was pretty famously Anti-Disco, so MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. If you viewed this video as legit Disco, I hope it's cause you're high right now.
I have the 45rpm record!
Chod, I used to like you. This was my childhood.
Yeah at this point, the people had enough 😮
Hard to believe that this song actually hit #1.. so terrible. At least it helped to begin the demise of the fad of Disco music..
Yep, it was pretty bad but the worst song ever is called "Shannon" by Henry Gross. ..or anything by Air Supply 😆
"Cocaine is a hellofa drug" Rick James.
Back in the day, you knew something was wrong with your favorite radio station when they started playing this lump 'o crap. RIP, WDAI Chicago.
I was in high school when disco had infiltrated music. It was about 1976 and at the same time I was into hard rock. Aerosmith released one of my all time favorite albums- “Rocks”; and it did BTW. Kiss was putting out all of their classics. Boston put out their debut album which was phenomenal. AC/DC was just staring to release the awesome Bon Scott era albums. Rush was blowing our minds. All of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s original members were still with us. Steve Miller Band came out with “Fly Like an Eagle”. I’m sure if other folks read this comment they add others. I think you hit the nail on the head about that word that rhymes with “Ducks”, because although it was fun to dance to, it did well…you know.
------- feel like I need a shower after this mess. I hated it when it first came out, and continue to hate it... it's a lifetime commitment
Yeah, this might have single handedly killed the genre. :)
There were a lot of mediocre disco songs, but this one took the prize for awfulness.
Oh no!
yes
I wouldn't have it on my playlist.
I couldn`t do it, bailed out at 1: 48,
In the day, I had a love/hate relationship with this stupid song. All one needed to do was go into a disco, have a few drinks and be having a good time dancing... And sure as hell, sooner or later, this song would come on and a nice looking girl would give you that :Oh come on and dance with me! This is a fun song!". Well, stupidest lyrics ever, but if you could ignore that, it was a great song with which to move... Oh Hell. Here I am dancing, singing and smiling... just having fun. What the hell, just go with the flow and who knows... she's having fun... with me (hmm 😏).
Check out the movie Howard the duck
There is another one a song called Kung Fu fighting
that was a lot better.
Not terrible. Funny.
Even people that couldn't stand disco,, couldn't stand this song.
I'm pretty sure he made a bet he could make the worst Disco song ever and they would play it. Literally anything back then that sounds Disco was ganna get played. I remember listening to American Top 40 and that was the story before they played the song. A kid in the 70's never missed a Saturday listening to America Top 40....count down was the best!!!!
This was supposed to be totally silly and dumb.
It's SARCASM making fun of disco.
Disco did not suck, but this song and a few others should never have been made😅😂
Come ON man. There is a whole genre of silly, goofy music and this was just parody of disco. Calling it bad music is a compliment...it's supposed to be bad that's what makes it good. There are some cultures and minds that don't GET 'Camp'. I feel that rap and hip-hop take them selves quite seriously ... I'm wondering if there is any parody of them. Country has been rich ground for parody. Opera too.
Lots of drugs
Chod. This is the worst song that went to Number 1 in the charts. Not only that. This is the worst song I have ever heard. And I lived through this era.
Disco-gorilla was pretty bad as well
Oh my! This song was the worst!
Wilburn has no humor. This was not a serious song but a humorous look at disco and was meant to be nonserious fun. Think of it as the South Park version of disco. I bet you danced to the Macarena?
It was a hideous time to be alive.
I'm sorry but I have too disagree with you, Dis- Gorilla is the worst song and video it's just plain bad,Disco Duck is bad but not like Dis- Gorilla 😮
