@@masonmorgan8167 Nix did not complete a single pass over the middle beyond the first down marker. All three that he attempted were way off the mark & his first one certainly should have been intercepted. It hit the DB right in the stomach. All his completions were either short dump off passes to safety valve options, simple drag routes to the TE near the LOS , screens or short routes near or sometimes behind the LOS...or they were sideline throws if they were thrown downfield further than 10 yards. That is literally what Wilson did also. In fact, weirdly...his most impressive pass of the day was the 22 yarder on the left sideline to Sutton, which was thrown on the run & looked exactly like what Russ was able to do also. In some respects he reminds me of him that way because he has the ability to be pretty accurate throwing while running. Unfortunately, you can't make a living doing that in the NFL. Second, his mechanics are an issue. I saw several passes in which he threw WAY off platform for no apparent reason & did not set his feet. All three of his downfield passes in the middle of the field required velocity on the throw, & each of them was thrown when he was throwing out of position,. That's why two of them were in the turf well in front of the receiver & one was way behind his target. On top of that, on two of his runs that he gained yardage on, he had open receivers that he missed seeing & were better options. That is also what Wilson was blamed for. Finally, his work on the four scoring drives was boosted with flagrant PI penalties on two of them. The running game accounted for most of the damage, a positive if anyone is looking at how the OL is opening holes. Nix played his first series with the starters going against the Colt's backups, & later against quite a few 3rd team guys when Denver's 2nd unit was in there. Indy also sat in a soft zone much of the time, a fact their TV announcers alluded two several times. For a first game as a rookie I would give him a B- grade. He made some plays & he showed some good things, but nothing he did in this game showed me that any of the things that made some scouts think he was a 2nd or 3rd round pick were unjustified. We still don't know if he can read NFL defenses of course, which is to be expected since team's don't play their real defensive systems in the preseason. Everything is very vanilla. But on at least two occasions I saw him misread who the hot receiver was. Memorizing plays by cramming overnight is not the same thing as being able to translate what he's seeing on the field in less than 2.5 seconds. He did not have to do it at Oregon so right now that is an open question. The book is going to be out on him for a while. Few rookies are capable of stepping into the NFL & playing well at the QB position, & frankly I think it's highly unfair to be asking or expecting him to do that, but that is exactly what this fan base demands. As of right now, if the things I saw on Sunday remain true this week, I would not start Nix in game one. I'd start Stidham & let him learn from the bench & develop at his own pace. That might even be what he needs to do for the entire year...it's what Mahomes & Brees did...& it's usually the best approach.
@@MarkLewis-l3f I agree with most of If not all of the stuff you said, but I don’t believe he looks like Russ for 1 main reason no sacks (credit to the O-line), no fumbles, and no picks, and led scoring drives down the field, I watched every broncos game from last season terrible fumbles picks and sacks (I know it’s only the preseason but I finally have hope for once) and it was horrible, Russ was good on paper but in reality he did nothing. I've been saying for 3 years that Bo Nix is going to be a great NFL QB. I watched every Auburn game with Nix in, and he did some amazing stuff. Being an Auburn fan, I hated to see him leave, but it was obviously the right decision for him to make. His career ahead was on the line, and Auburn was going nowhere with OR without him. Auburn's program needs to get their shit together. Their boosters are ruining that program.
I feel so vindicated as an Oregon fan that advocated for Bo Nix from the start because I was seeing the decision making, awareness, accuracy, and athleticism. I didn't even hype Herbert up and he was Oregon born and raised. Bo Nix really is special and that's not even to say anything about his work ethic or his character. Vikings will forever rue the day they drafted J.J. McCarthy over him.
As an Oregon fan and a Vikings fan, I think both teams got who they wanted. I'm not calling Bo a system QB but he's a better fit for Sean's system than KOC's. I think they broncos got who they wanted and MN got who they wanted too. Hopefully both guys thrive for a long time
Bo Nix is fortunate to be pairing up with a good coach. Kudos to Nix for being a hard worker. Let's be honest here. Justin Herbert is every coaches dream for a Qb are you kidding me. JJ Mccarthy had a great year at Michigan. I am happy for Bo Nix. I am just defending JJ and Herbert.
Preseason defenses are the worst defensive players in the NFL. I promise you, his play at Auburn--and Oregon's game against Georgia in 2022--more accurately describes his ability than the rest of his time at Oregon.

He looks good , but remember he was playing against 2nd and third string players .. I don’t see alot of those plays happening against 1st string players.. or any team that has a decent defense.. i see him trying to make something happen outta nothing and throwing a few pick 6’s
Bo Hall of Fame highlights 😆😆😆
