  • This was recorded at The Bear Folk Club in Chicago, IL on April 25, 1963, for a radio show. Every track in this show is considered a Dylan classic, and included is the earliest live version of "Talkin’ World War III Blues." There's a magical, swirling ambiance to the sound here as well that makes you feel like you're in some sort of dream--Bobby's dream, perhaps? Enjoy this gem while you can!

Even these "basic" folk songs of his have got a hallucinatory churn. There's something weird inside them. And his voice is perfect. Life and death in its sound. Young and old. The bloke is an alien. No one has got close to him.

@@SpeegBJ So talented it's almost spooky. I know my art, my literature. I've read all the classics, know most of the greats. And I still think he's one of the greatest whose walked the planet in terms of artistry. when you really go deep into his work, you realise that there is something almost otherworldly going on. A magician.

I was 15 when this happened and I've never looked back: Bob Dylan turned me on to music and guitar playing to this day - who else could write and perform so many brilliant tunes like this before he even turned 22?? I thank him for all the poetry and inspiration he's brought to the world, and if anyone deserved his Nobel Prize, it was Bob!

Dylan was a great “strummer”. Very few singers can provide such a rhythmic foundation over which to sing. Each song has a customized powerful rhythmic base over which to sing. A one-man band of sorts. Thanks SP.
And ……alternate tunings!! He knew his song well before he started singing.
It was said that BD was a guitarist of minimal skill. Don’t believe it.

Seems as he started to blossom as a writer he placed less emphasis on his playing. He could play the blues! He sure had a great ear for guitar players: Bloomfield, Robertson for starters...

      That's a great quote.
But I had to look it up.
It's actually Bob Johnston, and he said,
"I don't think Dylan had a lot to do with it. I think God instead of touching him on the shoulder he kicked him in the ass. Really. And that's where all that came from. He can't help what he's doing. I mean he's got the Holy Spirit about him. You can look at him and tell that."
      Powerful!
