I've been shopping at Home Goods for the last 25 plus yrs. They used to have "great finds". It was so much fun to hunt and find items that seemed to be one of a kind and a little pricey, but the last several years I find its just a bunch of not so great run of the mill stuff. I found a large chunky bent leg Japanese Teak coffee table. It was the size of a twin bed. It was gorgeous .That was about 20 years ago.
This video is so spot on. The temptation is REAL at HomeGoods! My mom always gets multiple texts when I'm there because I'm sending her pics of things she could use to decorate her new condo. She'll say, "Yes." "No." "Yes." Then I'll finally get a text that says, "Go home Michelle." Ha!
To avoid buying what i don’t really need at Homegoods and to avoid the Squirrel mentality, I bring a very specific list of things I need with me with the exact colors I need so I am not tempted to veer off my decorating plan. I also restrain from looking at the items in sections of the store that I’m not shopping for currently.
Same. I make a list of wat I actually am looking for, and even take pics of the space I'm Decorating so I can remind myself of wat I'm going for and to get an idea of how it mite look n a space
I’ve been a freelance designer for some of the companies products you see there (mostly storage and serving items + small furniture in rattan, wood, canvas, metal) Many of those labels are not truly from the “Designer “ brand but a version of their “look” using the company’s brand name in a licensing agreement... it’s a way to create the “look for less” --just a little insider information 🤫 You might notice that some “designer “ sheets are not 100%cotton , but instead a poly blend. (I hate the feel of polyester 😂) so I’m very careful when I purchase anything there. But for organizing or kitchen items it’s great!
I was a HomeGoods Manager for years and people automatically assume that my entire decor in my house is from HG. So untrue because I diy alot of my items, I have several things from CB2, Amazon, Walmart, Ikea etc. But I can say that HG values it's customers and offers a great return policy. Also alot of time people will split up a pair( they will purchase one chair, one lamp etc out of the set). HomeGoods is now online as well. Tfs Valentina
I always find gems there, I think it gets a lot of flack because there's a lot of cheesy stuff too (see: fake rhinestones, mirrored furniture, glitter, a pot that said boil on it lol). But recently I got an amazing all travertine tray for my coffee table, found some beautiful soap dispensers, quality fabric shower curtains, beautiful vases (fluted, smoked glass, etc), linen tea towels, taper candles, and even throw pillows if you go digging. I just find it silly people just write off the whole store because some of the stuff is ugly! It's worth the hunt especially for the price. My best item was a boucle storage ottoman that was a CB2 dupe. I paid $170 (Canadian dollars) and it was selling for $1000~ on CB2. Not that I actually care about brands but I'd have never paid that much for one lol. Oh, and a massive round wicker pendant light (it's beautiful and not boho vibes at all) for my livingroom.
Valentina, you have helped me so much in finding my style and developing it into a beautiful, comfortable home for my family. It's a work in progress that helps me to be wise in my decor purchases. Thank you. Your an awesome gal!
Ohmygoodness Valentina! My daughter-in-law & I now say….What would Valentina do? When making a decision about something to purchase for our homes! Lol you are so helpful & I hope you know just how appreciated you truly are! 😁🥰❤️
My favourite thing that I still love is a metal ball made of keys. I love old fashioned keys, and used to have wall decor with keys. I’ve given up the wall art, but still love my key ball. I also have some nice patio and garden decor. I have a nice Buddha and a Hedgehog for my garden and some nice planters. Their food finds can be good. If they have Turkish delight or Nougat that always ends up in my trolley. ❤
I love love love your energy! You can feel your passion towards design and want to improve spaces. Love the fact you also recommend long lasting design choices and not just quick trends.
I love your honest but still non judgmental attitude, especially when talking about department stores like Home Goods. It’s not just that everything is “trash”. You can find beautiful things anywhere, and sometimes stores like Home Goods or Marshall’s are the only places that are close by, not everyone has access to awesome vintage or antique shops, etc. We all have different styles, but there are still things to learn even if someone doesn’t have the same style as you. There are just things that generally do or don’t look good (signs with words, usually a no in my opinion 🤭) Great video!
Valentina, you're the best! I love that you are both elegant and down-to-earth with your shopping and decor tips. The best thing I've bought at Home Goods is an area rug that an interior designer saw me agonizing over and clued me in that designers shop there all the time. LOL My smaller wins have been blue and white ginger jars (I love having a ton of em and mix the cheap ones with a few - very few - pricier ones), along with coffee table books.
I do tend to gravitate to Ralph Lauren Home because i am a preteen of the late 70's and that was what was so stylish. I now have a white Raph Lauren comforter with a navy piping edge. I love it and put it at the end of our bed. So hotel chic
Oh I’m at HomeGoods all the time! I return what I don’t want to keep. It’s an affordable store and you can find amazing pieces. I go there specifically hunting for good vases, planters, throw blankets and accent pieces (like side tables and rugs) so good! I love that place! I wish I could share photos in the comments to show you what I got! 😍👌🏻
I really try to avoid all plastics in my home, but I do use plastic baskets for paints/art supplies as well as to organize bathroom products in the linen closet.
This has been one of your best videos ever! So true. Such great advice. I love so much stuff there but I walk out with one small flower pot! I did buy there early this year I found a stuffed little stool by Nautica and it is gorgeous. It is sitting in the corner of my bath with folded towels on it. It’s perfect. I went back a few hours later to buy the other matching one and it was gone! I was shattered. But every time I go there I still look for it. Silly me long gone. Biggest problem with Home Goods. I even drove to several surrounding far away stores looking. No go.
You are the best! My villa is elevated because of your influence 👌🏻. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and beautiful prospective in life. Thank you for making us love our homes more than ever and helping us be proud of what we achieved with decorations and tips. All the love from a huge Saudi fan to The House of Valentina👍🏻.
Depending on what the basket is needed for -the plastic is a lot easier to wipe and sanitize -ie some picnic baskets that gets laid down outside ie beach park ground !! I am OCD germ repelling and I find the products used to wipe on woven items in term damages -I would rather have clean than aesthetics in some cases .Woven baskets tend to hold dust easily which is not cute
The only reason I buy plastic containers are for my home art studio and my classroom. They are perfect since they easy to clean and wipe down when kids (and myself) get messy ☺️ 16:00
I agree. I use plastic containers for closet storage because I can clean and disinfect them. It's really helpful when storing toiletries and/or food items that can spill, etc.
Sooooooo true. What I did find at Homegoods was Japanese blue and white porcelain oversized bowls, and I found them over several years. I will have them till I die.
I’ve just rearranged my lounge room and took out the old TV stand which I hated. I popped the stationery buffet in there and decorated it with my take on V style. The room looks bigger and it was free to do. Also took the built in shelves out of a bedroom wardrobe to put a chest of drawers and decor in there. So much better. Thanks for the inspo Valentina.
I did that too! I found a lamp that I loved and then went to every home goods that in our area until I found the match! I was giddy as I went up to the check out line. It really is the thrill of the hunt! The marketers know what they are doing!
I don’t look at labels! Period! I buy what I like and what goes with my home. Not every trip to Home Goods is a success for me. Actually most of the theme items are junk and will be in landfill soon! Valentina, what were you on today? You were 😂 so hilarious! Loved it! 💕💐💕
We don't have these stores in Europe!😅 Like seriously, some times I wish they were just to hunt a bit but on the other hand, generic is not really my taste! Instead of that, we try to hunt in different countries cause it is easy to travel by car and it is a vacation by itself 😜
I bought a beautiful armoire 20 yrs ago, and I still have it. It's a chalky white with carved flowers, very tall and well made. It's in my spare bedroom and it's gorgeous. I feel like it's not as good as it used to be, though. Alot of stuff from China and India. But at the same time, there are good finds.
Thank You V for putting a Smile 😊 on my face throughout your video, I don’t have that store here in Australia 🇦🇺 But I certainly enjoyed watching you and could relate to some of what you were talking about, only purchasing What You Need not what you think you need and then come home and it doesn’t work with everything else you have in your home, I’m currently spray painting my blue vases to Black because I’m over the blue Hamptons style of everything and it’s saving me money 💰 to just spray paint them than go out to buy more and then having too much stuff that I’ll end up donating. You had me smiling from the beginning, Thank you for sharing all your tips on home decorating, I appreciate you very much. Cheers from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🦘🐨🖤🖤🖤🖤🤍🤍🤍🤍
I found the black bubble vase in Carolina Pottery recently. They actually have a ton of great items. The vase was $40.00 and came in black, white and a variety of other colors. There are locations in West Columbia & Myrtle Beach SC - also Smithfield NC & Augusta GA. Happy hunting!
Growing up everything was plastic, my mom hated replacing the dishes that were clumsily dropped very often between her 3 boys. We were a military family, enlisted not commissioned officer type family. Mom couldn’t keep buying dishes. I’m 40 years old now, I’ve never bought any plastic dishes. I’m still clumsy, that hasn’t changed and I now have 4 clumsy kids at home, but no plastic. Maybe it’s a poor kid thing, groaning up with plastic everything. To me glass is a simple but impactful luxury… but Moms with limited resources do what you gotta do, hardest job in the world. My Mom is and was a great mom, grandmother, woman, and human but no plastic in this house… 😂😊 love ya Mom xoxo 😘
Oh, Valentina, I totally relate when shopping Homegoods! I feel they had better "finds" years ago, but I still check them out regularly. When I am able to walk in, walk out without having bought something, I pat myself on the back lol!
We have some plastic woven baskets and plastic drinking glasses. But that's because we have a young child and it's either easier to clean or safer to handle for their use.
🤣🤣🤣 so true!!! I’ve looked for 6 months for a matching set of soap and lotion dispensers that I like! There’s always only 1 😂😂😂🤣 … but Sometimes I get super lucky at my HG and TJ Maxx they have the same products and I find 1 at each Lol!!! I love treasure hunting! I found the softest most beautiful quilt and my favorite is all the crystals 💚🖤🤍💚🖤🤍💚🖤🤍🪴🪴🪴🌺🌸🌳🌿🍓🍀🍀🍀🍀
Just sold my home and relocating out of state. I donated all the home decor I bought from HomeGoods. I was not attached to anything, including a rug from there. The only stuff I’m keeping from HG are kitchen accessories and 2 planters. That says a lot about my spending habits and need to stay away from a store that sells everything I may or may not need, but buy anyway!
Lord I was cracking up at how true this video was but also felt bad for HomeGoods. I know what you mean walking into someone's home and knowing where they shop. There was a time everyone had the white shag/fur rug or multicolored squares rug in their home...it was at every TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Walmart, Target and HomeGoods. I think the real point of this video was to teach people to go to multiple stores, yard and estate sales, Facebook marketplace, World Market and travel to mix with big box store purchases. This keeps your home from looking like a store.
I always enjoy your videos! You make me laugh! I have learned some really great tips from listening to you. My style is quite different from yours, but sound design goes across the board! And some of the things you have said have helped me begin to achieve the 'look' that I want in my home!
I actually have a couple plastic baskets but they are outdoors! I don't have a cover over my roof top deck and I've got some iron garden shelves and I've got 4 Wicker looking baskets holding my tools, soil, etc and they're weather proof! Otherwise no never, always going for the real thing lol.
Some people get plastic baskets for their plants… they last through more than a few months of regular watering indoor or out. Buying new baskets every few weeks because your real baskets start molding and look gross. I agree about the look of natural woven baskets, gorgeous.
Oh my gosh, Valentina, you are hilarious! 😅 I have done everything you talked about, plus driven to a number of HG stores to complete dinnerware sets, which was actually fun. I also put something in my cart, carry it around until I see something else, and carry it around. But, although I don't mostly cave, IT IS STILL HARD NOT TO DO SO! I do have some really nice things from HG that I've had for years that still make me happy, and I still can't believe I got them for such great prices, like Ralph Lauren lamps, pillows, and dishes that are now collectors items.
I too, love real baskets, so many colors, textures and sizes for storage. That said, I live in an apartment and the Millennial guy living above me overflowed his toilet and my baskets were ruined. Now I have plastic baskets that will survive water damage and protect what is stored inside.
Also, The Peter Thomas Roth eye bad fixer stuff works, but it’s temporary for the day. I got it for Christmas, and it is one that is worth the hype, truly.
One time I bought 2 Schott Zwiesel coup champagne glasses. They were beautiful, and they looked amazing in my China cabinet. For months after that, I hunted in every Home Goods store, I would even constantly re-visit these stores hunting for more of these champagne glasses. One time I even saw them in one of your videos during one of your Home Goods haul videos. I wanted to scream! "V!" "Get those for me!" LOL! I eventually I found 6 more (nearly 6 months later) and bought them all!
Real wicker baskets can mold/ mildew in high-humidity spots like bathrooms and basements. Wicker furniture can also have the same problems if left outside. Those places are where I use the plastic dupes. Other than that, it’s real
I haven't been in a while and I do miss it. Mobility is my issue and windows shopping online just isn't the same. I do like looking at the books and candles and kitchenware (especially for gifts). The last thing I got there was a throw. I also loved checking out their Christmas decor, ornaments, and so forth. My best deal, years ago, was two king size flannel flat sheets that were clearance that I could use as a quilt back. I haven't yet, but it was a great deal. 🤓
Regarding the HG hunt…. I fell victim to that. Saw a darling bowl and coffee cup that matched, in several different “pairs.” I LITERALLY drove to every HG in my large metropolitan area (I think we have 10 locations) to find 8 matching pairs. Ugh. I didn’t realize this was a “thing.” Lesson learned! But they ARE darling…😀😀
Love love love! I’ve made both the rug mistake, the chair mistake and the glasses!!! Ralph Lauren as well!! The “plaid” crystal glasses 😂. Too much fun. And I never leave without a snack or a package of pasta!! ❤
A case for plastic baskets: I used them in closets for storing cleaning supplies. For example, a cat litter scoop (that is in a bag). I prefer plastic because it is safe if a cleaning product were to leak. That said, I don't have plastic baskets out in the open.
I hear you on the acrylic bins😂 but I have them now! in my laundry room I moved into a home with cabinetry up above the washer dryer and that is my only storage. I took the doors off and painted the inside of the cabinets the same color as the wall like an open shelving unit, and I had some beautiful woven baskets but let me tell you when you pull those off the shelf every day and they're filled with things like baseball caps and sunscreen and batteries and lightbulbs, they break down and the fibers from the basket get everywhere. Also I had no idea what was in those baskets after a while, so switching to acrylic made me accountable that I wouldn't impulse buy more batteries for example at the store in case we need them when we don't, and I have to keep it organized to look as nice as stuff like that can since it's in the clear acrylic. My kids think it looks cooler than my frumpy woven baskets haha
I feel you have to really inspect the furniture because lots of it is damaged . And honestly don’t like to walk around and see people waiting seating on all the furniture. No wonder their chairs look used
Great information! I'm definitely guilty of grabbing things and putting them in my cart but I rather take them home and think about it later otherwise it will be gone! The good thing is I know my style and I'm very particular! So true I've gone to over ten HG stores looking for a specific item sometimes I get lucky sometimes not!
A couple of years ago I bought Colorado Chicken Stew and loved it and hunted for more until I found it online at Krogers. I now order it online, shared with many friends who love it too.
Ohhhh your going to hate me lol. I am so glad to see the mushroom lamp is gone !!! Ouch for those of you who love it I am so sorry. I am a huge fan of House of Valentina and her relationship to her family and of course her husband. And her love of decor. But that mushroom lamp in the background just had to go. It took modern in a whole different direction. However I am so proud that she tried something new. I absolutely admire all her decorating style and advice. (Shhh Except the mushroom lamp yikes sorry ) I am going to continue to watch her throughout the day she is a great inspiration and fun loving host.
I bought a beautiful set of acrylic cups for outside/inside for our two young kids. They match our glass cups. So it makes them feel like they have pretty crystal glassware as well. Plus it’s great for outside so no glass accidents. Also, after years of searching for that black bubble vase. I FOUND IT!!! Two days ago. It was in white but I couldn’t leave it behind and will paint it black. You had me searching gurlllll 😂.
Ordered the Dermaclara patches on your recommendation. Cannot comment on Home Goods since we do not have one on Guam and they will not ship here, But loving all the utube shoppers who do,,,especially yours,❤❤
I have to stay away from Marshall's and TJ max! Has always been a weakness! But I do buy towels , found for my new bathroom kind of kelly green! No other place had them , they jumped out and grabbed me😂! I always check out the spices , jams , pure maple syrups , gluten free items! Clothes are nice sweaters! I take picture of art work if I like it! I recreate the ideas myself 😂! Bed sheets are nice!
Hey Valentina I was amazed when I found the bubble vase at home goods but in the white version I snatched that so quick & was dancing to the cash register. 😂😂❤
The bubble vase buy a large plain vase , cut tennis balls or something similar glue them on the vase and spray paint 🎨 and save a fortune and you paint it any color you want
Omg Valentina, you had me laughed so hard 🤣 when you said glittery gorilla. I love the planters from HG and definitely my organic olive oils. I am so with you on the signs and colorful decors, definitely not my taste for decoration. I usually pass right by them. I also get all my chips from HG. Thank you for another great video!
I talked my husband off the ledge a few days ago at HG when he thought a gold resin figurine of a dad and baby gorilla ***reading a book together*** would be great addition for the home library we’re building. (I diverted his attention with one of those bags of Himalayan sea salt chips.)
HomeGoods requires patience and luck. They have enough stores that most ppl have access. I mean honestly what midrange home decor stores are still out there.. so just buy what you need and love. HG has gotten a lot more kitchsy
I have also lost a few things I really wanted and which would still be w/me today had I not wavered. I have gone back the same day and the piece is gone. 😢
Home Goods is such a fun place to shop and I agree with all the points you made in this video. My husband and I love checking multiple ones in our area but to your point about finding elusive items, we found an iron metal ring similar to the ones you’ve featured on your Amazon storefront and have been on the hunt for the smaller version. We’ve been to several stores for the past few months and can’t find it so it’s the kind of the thing we feel will haunt us lol.Kinda frustrating but kinda fun at the same time. Loved the video❤
It's the same problem shopping in Sales. I can easily get carried away by the "bargain" and I have to ask myself, would I have looked at it twice at full price?
"Coastal Grandmother" hahaha!! The first time I went to HomeGoods I went so crazy I called my husband and made him come to the shop with his truck to bring home my "treasures".
I bought one of the glitter monkeys! Why? As a funny Xmas gift for my father. He has an antique door stopper that is a monkey. Now the monkey has a friend. It was the best hideous thing I've ever purchased!
I loved your video today. I’ve shopped at HomeGoods since it opened & have found some real treasures but I had to laugh about your saga of finding “one” item and spending the rest of your life trying to find its mate… I am looking at a beautiful lamp I bought just knowing I’d found it’s beautiful counterpart… well it’s been 6-7 years and 4 states later and no mate!! 😅
Hi V, I've been following you for a while and I enjoy your videos. You mention several styles at the beginning of the video. How would you characterize your style please?
Home Goods or Home Sense as it is called here in Canada is normally a miss. Every once in awhile there is a treasure but I rarely go there anymore as I the hunt was not bearing any fruit. But maybe I am inspired to go back. I am looking for a new lamp. Black, modern, white shade.
I love HG but yea so much temptation. Luckily I have been working with my style preference and have been able to walk out of there with a thing or 2. I definitely curate and edit my HG cart when I’m there. I haven’t shopped at HG for a while until recently when we bought another house. My most favorite finds are 2 Alabaster Lamps that are currently in our bedroom. Luckily there were 2. Otherwise I don’t know if I would have been able to pass and hope I’ll find another one. Lol but with lamps you can easily incorporate a single lamp in the decor. So it wouldn’t have been a big deal if I had took the single lamp. Anyways. Great suggestions!
I always buy what I like and if it does not work I simply return it!
I've been shopping at Home Goods for the last 25 plus yrs. They used to have "great finds". I do the same with a friend and we have a lot of fun judging whether V would give the tick of approval for our choices on Pinterest.

You made so many valid points in such a comical way. You are hilarious!

I used to shop Tuesday Morning and Horchow Finale. Found some truly cool things.
I feel perfectly giddy when I walk in the door of Home goods 6:56 so understand your excitement!!!😂🎉❤
Where did you find your black lamp?! I can't find the video describing it, if you've mentioned it. I love it!
I don’t understand all the chunky wood chains I see everywhere. What’s the appeal V?
I agree. Also, the marble links and wood beads. 🙄
Can you do an episode on garages - it’s part of the house! Open the door - car hotel.
100% agree about the plastic. I cannot stand plastic. But, if I had a pool I MIGHT consider plastic drinkware and dishes.
I serve food by the pool. It’s either acrylic or paper plates. Acrylic for me.
Agreed! Same reasons why I bought a woven plastic tray. To keep on my out door table, I don’t have a covering as well
Some people get plastic baskets for their plants… they last through more than a few months of regular watering indoor or out. Buying new baskets every few weeks because your real baskets start molding and look gross. I agree about the look of natural woven baskets, gorgeous.
Fun session!!
GUILTY!!!! 😮😮Love from Yorkshire England
Always love seeing your videos 👍🏻😎❤️
OMG. Can you hear me laughing out loud from Greenville SC? Hysterical!🤣
Real wicker baskets can mold/ mildew in high-humidity spots like bathrooms and basements. Wicker furniture can also have the same problems if left outside. Those places are where I use the plastic dupes. Other than that, it’s real
I like fun colored real plates for pool side outdoor eating. We love outdoor dining by the pool under the patio roof.
One pillow person, here! Finally gave away the cover and kept the insert.
Valentina, I want to go shopping with you! Man we would be laughing our heads off! Fun video👍🏻💖
Thanks , I’m the 1 who needs this video 1000% 😮. I would hold that cart like someone’s gonna try and take my stuff
That vase looks like it has chicken pox and I hate it! LOL
I feel you have to really inspect the furniture because lots of it is damaged . And honestly don’t like to walk around and see people waiting seating on all the furniture. No wonder their chairs look used
I gave this video a thumbs up because all these are relatable 😅. Could you please make a video on home decor styles.💛
I bought one pillow I loved at TJ MAX when I needed two. Never found another matching one there but by chance saw it a Bed Bath & Beyond. PHEW!
I was going to comment on the same thing!
Another great video you are amazing love your energy 😊
Best thing was a travertine table 😍
Ordered the Dermaclara patches on your recommendation. Cannot comment on Home Goods since we do not have one on Guam and they will not ship here, But loving all the utube shoppers who do,,,especially yours,❤❤
I looked at so many things today, thinking 'do I love it?' What did I go home with? Dessert.
Well then, it was a GREAT day! 😂
I love the lamp behind you. Where’s it from?
I went into a boutique store and knew they bought their merchandise from Homegoods and jacked up the prices!!
Yes, I've also seen that
Love your advice!❤❤❤
I got three large round black thin framed mirrors for my bathrooms at our vacay condo. Plain but classic.
"Very few things get better with time, other than wine and us ladies." Hilarious and so true! Love your channel.
I just did too. Two days ago. Same color. I held onto it like a new born baby and side eyed anyone who looked my way 😂😂.
The bubble vase buy a large plain vase , cut tennis balls or something similar glue them on the vase and spray paint 🎨 and save a fortune and you paint it any color you want
Oh yes, I have made furniture regrets, and took "the hit"! Oh yes....Thank you, Valentina.
Trying to find those round mirrors was nuts. I needed three and I went to many home goods to get them. Almost gave up.
The worst things I've ever gotten at home good were the sheets. Every single set I have ever gotten pills.
