10:05 I felt that so much. Getting ready to say something only just to be blindsided by a fat groove. Might as well put down the mic for a minute and bang 😂👌
IMO The Mountain is their peak. It sits comfortably alongside classic era prog albums; ticks all boxes regarding melody, complexity atmosphere and emotion. Atlas Stone and this song are my faves from the album :-)
Like a BTBAM song you say? Funnily enough they are about to tour together! Seeing them both in March and I cannot wait! Seen Haken once before, they played this tune (and all the other bangers!) and they are absolutely amazing. ALSO PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CHECK OUT The Architect and Crystallised by Haken, those two songs and this one are among my all time favorite tracks!
Dude that’s so cool 😂😂 I’m so jealous you get to see them both! I love them both so much now it’s crazy I’d kill to go to that show lol. I will definitely check them out, I’m gonna do a full album reaction to Aquarius I believe!
This album is great in how many ways it can be interpreted. The themes are universal and draw upon lots of different, but related stories... This one is definitely an allusion to the story of Icarus. Which is a classic story for a reason - it can apply to a lot of really deep and fundamental things about the human condition. For me I definitely have had my own set of experiences that I think this applies to. ... ... ...Mountain. ;P
I love songs like this that everyone takes something different away from the song. It’s thought provoking and makes introspection happen naturally :) I love it. So many Cryptic lyrics at the end. I thought that was so cool.
Hey! You weren't there for the chat.... At first I even thought you were going live with the reaction. Then I hoped to see you in the chat at least. Anyways, great to follow your reaction! One of the best (not songs maybe, but reactions - due to your commentary: Being personal and thoroughly commenting on what hit you with the song. I really apreciate rare occations when you explain why something doesn't hit you as well!) Gorgeous song and album!
I literally had to run out right as the video started I am so sorry bro I will be there for the next one 🙏🙏 Thank you so much for the kind words. This was a very personal song for me, I could relate so much to it and what it was saying (in my eyes at least) Very powerful song. Thank you again 🙏
Funfact: the "non-stop purple force" misheard lyric is one of the most popular inside jokes on the haken sub-reddit. It's actually "unstoppable force" by the way 😁
I feel like this is a good song to describe what depression is like. One second you're on top of the world, and the other second you're suddenly falling deep down into the depths of the ocean all from one small problem or mistake. A lot of the lyrics in that last part of the song seem to talk a lot about problems that the world is currently having problems with, and once in a depressive mood it's a lot easier to see those problems. That's what I think the lyrics "Splashing down into the ocean, something seems different now" mean. It's kind of like the way you realize all of the awful things about yourself and the world when in falling into a depressive mood. Hope this makes sense!
My head canon for this song is nuts. I can’t even really put it into words but the line “is reality compromised?” Plays a huge role in it. It is quite similar to what you described. Ascending to the highest peaks just to come crashing down into a different world then what you left and now it’s alien to you. Crazy awesome song
MOUNTAIN!! Yeah man, this is definitely one of the more notable tracks on the album!! Every time I hear that main riff, the interval(s) used, and the chords in the verse, I’m always knocked back by this sense of… mystery? 🤷🏻♂️ Or like, “wtf’s going on?!” 😂🙈 I actually wasn’t a massive fan of this album when it released and it took about 2 years to grow on me 😂 I love how you picked up “the mountain could be this, or it could be that,” pulling on that perception thread of how it’s different and or unique to everyone! 👌🏼 ✨ Great job man!
I think this song is influenced by Icarus mythology legend where "Icarus ignored Daedalus’ instructions not to fly too close to the sun, causing the beeswax in his wings to melt. Icarus fell from the sky, plunged into the sea, and drowned." Nevetheless such a great song. So powerful.
Amazing reaction, I felt your emotions as if I were listening to the song for the first time. Trust me with the following: VEIL, THE ARCHITECT and/or the messiah complex
18 mins later, this song is amazing! This album is so crazy, Pareidolia must be next from the same album. I don't know if we wanna cry anytime, Somebody is also amazing.
Never heard of these guys, but they are...interesting. This song kind of runs all over but it's...catchy in a weird way. Kind of Ayreon doing doom metal. Glanced at the lyrics and I will need some time to see where they were going with them. At one point inspirational, then taunting, then failing. I need to hear more, thanks for the intro and keep rocking.
I’m glad you dig them Alan! I think they’re great. The few songs I’ve heard from them are absolute bangers. Check out “The Cockroach King” it’s much less cryptic and shorter but still great! 😁
Ahhh! This album is pretty much meant to be listened straight through in order... ALMOST a concept album. I think you'll find a few favorite band if you do :)
@@XavierMacX To be honest, this is a band that is hit or miss with me. I have listened to a few of their songs, some really grabbed me and some left me wondering why I bothered. To me, they are not as good as Blind Guardian (admittedly not purely prog), Symphany X, Death, or Opeth but still one I will listen to once in a while.
Mountain……..Its good but so is the DT track! Personally i find this track wanders a bit without a strong overall thread to tie it together. Its more like a stream of consciousness and much of it never really resolves itself. TBH some Dream Theater tracks also have that issue for me too and I am less keen on that approach. Overall I prefer Count of Tuscany and voted on that basis as IMHO its the better overall song. Hopefully you wont pass on that track for too long.
This is the song that got me into Haken, and is still my favorite song by them. I'm glad you overrode the poll on this one!
Me too! This might be my new favorite song... lol. But it changes a lot so who knows xD

On a "side note": Ross Jennings (of Haken) is my favourite male voice of today. Courtney Swain (of Bent Knee) is my favourite voice 😊

So many changes, it gives me heart palpitations ha!! But yeah, The Mountain is a great album.
You are not the only one! This is crazy! I love it 😂🤘
Maybe my fourth favorite active band. Better than Dream Theater imo. Glad to see you do Haken just because you want to 🙂
I’m so glad I did this song instead of the other one lol unless that song is a masterpiece as well. I love this band. 😎🙃
4th? Im wondering what would be your top 3, because for me, its 1.Haken ; 2.Tool ; 3. *nothing

Ohhhhhhh ok I was wondering what that was about when I first heard this 😂😂 thank you for clarifying 🙏🤘
I think Ross even sings "non-stop purple force" live now. :P

Kinda how cockroach king is kinda eclectic and fun and then this one is just nuts…. Lol
