It Started With A Huge Surprise! Metal Detecting With A Spectacular Find

  • A nice treasure hunt in the woods with some unexpected finds. This trip started with a surprising discovery. A deep, almost out of reach signal turned into one of my most spectacular finds - a solid Roman bracelet (at least that's my assumption).
    A brief research seems to confirm it. Check out a similar item: finds.org.uk/d...
    I would prefer to make a find like this at the end of a difficult hunt to feel a little bit more satisfaction. When something comes too easy, without effort, it isn't as rewarding as it "could" be. But hey, let's not complain...
    I moved on shortly after and made a few more nice finds. The highlight was probably a 1700's wind cap from a tobacco pipe, which cleaned up nicely. A second cap was flat. A boar must have stepped on it :).
    I also found a 1800's buckle and a silver coin from the same time period, but why am I writing it, if you saw the video.
    I would like to mention something about the "window lead". It wasn't the first time I found it. I didn't know what it was, I always thought it must be some sort of a strange industrial piece, until I saw the following video, which finally solved the mystery: • What Secret Can Window...
    I haven't opened my piece yet...
    I hope you enjoyed this hunt, despite all the noise caused by U.S. Air Force planes.
    Thank you for watching.

      Well, usually I detect in cold conditions too, but this winter I couldn't go out much (due to other reasons, not weather related). In his case I go out take some pictures, which is my new hobby. But a brand new video should be up any minute.

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Francesca, the bracelet was not that difficult to clean. Actually I think, I used a scalpel only, together with a soft nylon brush. The soil came off without resistance, which isn't always the case.
      The shine on the old tobacco pipe cap (I assume this is what you had in mind) came actually from steel wool, when I finished it. I was surprised about the outcome as well.
      My assistants are always happy when they can go out. Only the sleepy lion couldn't care less. :D

    Hey man, I really can relate to that signal under the roots you couldn’t recover. It can be maddening. It has happened to me and I almost always hunker down and dig until I recover an item that I usually damaged trying to recover , but it was a signalthat sounded great but once recovered had little to no value. What made it even worse for you is that you were on a Roman site. Ugh!! That would eat at me for days if I walked away and eventually I know I would have to try again. I’m curious if you went back?

    Hey! 😁 Great Video. I am new to metal detecting and im wondering, whats the best way to find stuff from the 1800's or old stuff in general?

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  2 роки тому

      I guess, it depends on the terrain and the way people behaved over the years. For me there are no specific spots, I don't do research to find places where they gathered, but I'm sure that older maps could help you out.
      Usually you should be able to find stuff everywhere. It is more important to figure out if you have access to "original" old soil. It doesn't matter if your in a good spot, when finds are buried too deep for a metal detector. I'm sure this comes with experience. I wish you luck!

    • @MetalDetecting24
      @MetalDetecting24  2 роки тому

      Hello Lois, I don't think people lived in spots I hunt. I assume this terrain has always been a forest, although it was probably modified several times. People here gather together in small villages, in valleys. It's not like in the US, where you can find old 1800's chimneys standing in the middle of a forest (which is a shame because villages grow and old areas are buried under modern infrastructure). At least that's my experience.
      Have a great day.

      No, I'm using a program with tone frequencies that adjust accordingly to conductivity of the metal. The detector creates a low tone for iron and higher tones for anything else. This option is called "full tones" on the Deus.

    Wie kommt es, dass Ihre Entdeckungen es Ihnen nicht erlauben, königliche Münzen oder Münzen aus dem 17., 18. und 19. Jahrhundert zu finden?
    Das sind oft Münzen aus der gleichen Zeit oder sogar aus dem 20. Jahrhundert. Sie datieren die Knöpfe immer 1700, wie geht es Ihnen?

      Hallo Michael,
      vielen Dank. Nur weil man Knöpfe findet, bedeutet es nicht, dass dort auch Münzen liegen müssen. Möglicherweise gibt es auch weniger Münzen, weil diese leichter zu finden sind, während Knöpfe ein "schlechteres" Signal (oder Leitwert Nummer) produzieren und von einigen als "Müll" identifiziert werden.
      Beste Grüße.
