You can still be tracked even if its turned off. Your phone is a spy in your pocket, usually phone was made to not allow the information you donot want to be shared, but it knows what you doing and up to date info. So whatever questions are asked related to privacy settings.

WE live in a surveillance country, traffic camera, wall Mart, credit card cheap,and our phone with it's camera and microphone listening all day sad thing is that we gladly pay for it

I personally thing if there are no consequences to this surveillance there really should be any worries as long as the process is more transparent with a purpose of national security.
You need maps, location search and drive directions faster and cheaper, earlier for all to pay more, now available free with Android. Then why you use it, stick with you what you want. Dont use google.

I have no doubt Google wants the best service for the users. Of course they need data from me for it. Fine. They should get it. I am fine with that.

I agree with you big data can be a mighty source. And it can be used for good and evil things. But any prediction extracted from it is precise as a weather forecast. Google likes to know the interests of the users. For better ads. All is done by machines. No other person gets to know about me. It's a full automated process. Anonymous where possible. It's more anonymous, as if I would personal would go into a store and where anybody could see what I buy. So the risk of any information leak is the smallest you can get. It depends on your own. Use Google or do not use Google. In my opinion there is no safer way. I share information with machines who would never ever share these without permission. Nuff said.

That's the major concern.

Simply turning off your location doesn't mean you are not tracked. Your cellular company . Your Internet Service Provider. Your IP .. etc can track your location even if you turn off you GPS location.

If one opts for free services volunteering to provide personal information then that is a compromise the individual is making by choice. So question of whether he or she being tracked by technology company due to voluntary consent is mute or irrelevant. However if that technology company abuses voluntary consent to put the consumer in dangerous situation then that is case for law suit.
