Just posted a reply to Manda, so of course need to post here as well. I just wanted to thank you both for sharing your pen and ink obsessions!! I went to the SF Pen show on Friday as a newbie. First pen show. Lots of nerves. I picked Friday figuring it wouldn’t be too crowded and I couldn’t talk myself out of going over the weekend. I was hoping there would be a chance the two of you would be there, but alas, no. Friday was the right choice for me as a newbie. Easier to walk around twice without feeling too overwhelmed and make somewhat educated choices on purchases. Did pick up my first resin pen from the Carolina Pen Co. That was the biggest highlight for me. Next year, the goal will be to meet you and Manda and thank you personally for bringing such pretty pens and inks into my life. You two are the best!! ❤❤❤
Oh I'm so glad you got to enjoy the show! I wanted to go Friday, but had to work, and so many of the folks I knew I wanted to meet with said they'd be there on Saturday. I got my first Carolina Pen Co. at the pen show last year, which was MY first time going! I hope you have a great time with that pen. Manda and I were just saying we should try to organize a meetup so we don't have to wait another year to hang out with other pen nerds. :D
I came right over after watching Manda's video!!! I'm so happy to hear about you alls pen show fun!!!! Gosh, I'm in a similar pen case pickle lol I filled a 20 pen Galen Leather with all my TWSBIs except Gos/Swipes.... and I'm now filling a 40 pen Galen Leather and deciding which pens deserve a place in it ... plus looking ahead at maybe another 40 pen Galen case! Deck the Halls is beautiful!!!!!❤ It's so fun to experience thru you and Manda ... the pen show!!!
Hi Chris! So nice to see a comment from you! I really love your videos and so often forget to comment. -_- I have been having a little bit of that feeling of missing out when watching people come home from the show with new pens, but nothing there really grabbed me, so it's better I didn't spend the money. Hehe
Hi Maria! Thanks for sharing your haul. Diamine Deck the Halls is such a fun purple. I remember when the sky was orange in 2020. That was the summer my family and I moved to California. Had me wondering, “what did I get myself into?” Wish I could have seen you all at the pen show. Hopefully, next time!
I was bummed I didn't get a chance to meet you at the show! I hope you've settled into California well. It's got its quirks, but it's home to me and I love it.
Wonderful purchases especially the Galen Leather case. The new Ocean color is gorgeous. I saw it at the DC pen show. Go for the Pilot 912! I love mine. I have the FA nib. Thanks for sharing. And yes, you are hilarious. Love your videos!
@@MariaRosseau I don’t have any problems with the 912 FA nib. I use Sailor Manyo inks in it. I spent hours playing with them at the DC show in 2022 and 2023. Yup, 2 912’s now, a 743 and an 823. Love my Pilot pens! Trying to do a ‘no buy’ on fountain pens for a bit. LOL I’ll see how long that lasts!
Well, Golden Gate Bridge really isn't orangey, unfortunately. I suppose it could kind of look that way because there's a golden sheen over the pinky-red, though. :)
I agree, The Golden Gate Bridge ink needs more orange. Ferris Wheel Press has one called Golden Gate Glow that matches International Orange better but the hue it's too light, if it were darker, it would be pretty accurate.

Nice haul! I wish I had been able to go, but alas, I pulled up sick. On question: what is the first pen and what kind of nib is on it, that you first used to test the Golden Gate Bridge ink, when you wrote "Golden Gate Bridge?" It sounds pretty scratchy, but has a lovely line variation. Also, you deserve major credit for your beautiful handwriting, especially being a lefty.
I'm sorry to hear you were sick! I hope you're feeling better now, and with luck you can make it to next year's. The scratchy pen is a dip pen - the nib is a Zebra G, which I got from Jetpens. (Not sponsored; I just love them.) It is INCREDIBLY scratchy - there is no tipping material at all. The line variation with these nibs is second-to-none, though. I like using them, but they're not actually good for sampling inks because they put down more ink than pretty much any FP would. Thanks for the compliments on the writing! It's actually a little easier for lefties to do pointed pen calligraphy, in some regards. The upstrokes are harder for us, because they're pushing against the paper, but the downstrokes are simpler and our hands are at the right angle.
@@MariaRosseau Thanks very much! Yes, i'm recovering fine. Maybe some stuff is easier for lefties, but my left-handed nephew writes with what I guess I'd call the "twisted claw," where his hand curls around from below and the hand is actually positioned ABOVE the line he's writing, sothe pen comes down from above. I'm sure you must have seen it. The poor kid's writing is, well, execrable.
@@KenCunkle It's sad - that usually happens because lefties aren't taught to write properly, and so they try to mirror what they see righties doing. I bought things, just not pens. I'm glad you find my ramblings hilarious - then I'm not alone in it. ;) I make my swatch cards the way I do because... I always have.
