I really wanted to love this phone guys! But unfortunately the display issues are just too much to overlook! Too bad because the rest is actually a solid phone! *Correction I said I’ve seen this phone for 1700 USD, I meant HKD! My bad!! 🤣
Think this is a little harsh, I paid £165 GBP for this which is a steal and so far so good, it's not going to use amazing hardware for less than £200 . The camera and video recording and playback is acceptable and the UI is pretty good. The screen is a cheaper screen as a more expensive panel would push the price up into standard k30 territory . It's all part of a strategy to cover numerous price points .This is a budget phone and has to be Judged according to what you pay and the value there.
Well I’m glad you love it Leon, but I guess that means I expect more from my phones at this price point than you for display! I have tried numerous phones from this same company (Redmi Note 7, Note 8, Note 8T, Note 8 Pro) and more that haven’t had the display issues I’ve experienced with this phone. It’s a decent phone despite these issues so for the unassuming customer I’m sure you will be very happy with it. But it’s not for me.
@@FrankieTech hmm I wouldn say k love it or I'm unassuming, I know the level of device it is, I'm pretty clued up on my devices, this is actually used as a back up phone so amazing display NFC etc aren't deal breakers for me that's just my opinion , my main phone, which is a k20 Pro. As you say it's decent for what you get , but each to their own, stay safe!
Exactly Leon! The beauty is you have options, and so do I! I definitely recommend other phones like the Mi 9T or even the older Redmi Note 8 series over this. Thanks for watching!
Wow! This is a pretty decent buy, but that LCD Ghosting is pretty noticeable it looks like (I had the same problem with the regular Redmi K30/POCO X2 around the dual-punchole, but it was never that bad) and that viewing angle was disgusting in that picture that you took Frankie. I’d recommend anyone who needs a phone in this price range to go with the Redmi K30/POCO X2, 120hz for £250 is amazing! However, the Note 9S ain’t all bad, it’s got quite a capable chip inside and a decent camera. Also Frankie bro, I’m A LEFTIE!
Frankie Tech Thanks bro. I know my phones! (Not as much as you, but ahh well....) Also, Frankie, did you know that there is actually an annual left-handlers day?! Also, I’m may be left-handed, but I’m pretty ambidextrous and weirdly, although I’m very much mainly left handed, I pretty much always hold my phone(s) in my right, probably because most power-buttons and side-mounted fingerprint scanners are there, I must’ve just gotten used to it! Also, I hate to ask Frankie, but what do you edit on, I’m looking for a great editing software to make my videos more complex and all that and overall nicer and I only know one guy to come to! Got any suggestions?
I'm from Brazil and recently bought this model from AliExpress. It seems like a good option considering just the price and the specs sheet. But now, watching reviews I'm kinda desappointed because my main purpose to buy a phone is good cameras and a good display for photo editing and color correction
The different between redmi note 9S and note 9 Pro is just 48MP to 64MP and charging is from 18W to 30W, I just really hope that Pro version will even more better LCD display.
Im planning to buy this phone.🙁 and now watching your review makes me think if this phone will be worth it. Please do compare with redmi note 8 pro and redmi note 9 pro(global version) please🙏
I'm actually enjoying the phone Frankie despite the odd flaws like the camera night mode which isn't good, I haven't experienced the screen issues you are having? Maybe there was a bad batch during production and you've got one of them? Anyway for the price of under £200 it is a steal for those on a budget... Of course it cannot replace my flaggship Huawei p30 pro or my Oneplus 7 pro or even my older Apple iPhone X but it's a great little option for those on a budget. Cheers mate 👍
Thanks Paul! Well I can only speak from my experience too having reviewed hundreds of phones that the display panel on this phone is just not up to par. I don’t know how much more proof I could provide than the photos and shutting off the lights, but my display is muddy, and viewing angles are terrible. I wish I was the only one who actually felt this way, then perhaps my thoughts might be a one off, but I have seen review after review (Lim Reviews, even Chris from Tech Tablets from tech tablets complained about the ghosting issues on his unit) that agree with my experience. Instead of just gloss over my experiences with a phone though I share my honest experience as you know. This phone is solid in many ways as I said in the video, but the display is just not high quality, and yeah perhaps I got a worse unit. But just because of that does that negate my experience? Thanks for watching again bro and yes I agree it’s still a great buy if you’re ok with the display!

I am not the only one who has mentioned this either (go see Lim Reviews, even Chris from TechTablets points out the ghosting issue in his one week review). I’m glad to hear you are happy with the phone! I’m glad your display appears perfect to your eyes! But sadly mine does not! I have reviewed hundreds of phones in the past 2 years so I would like to believe I know what to look for in display quality. Even the Redmi Note 8, 8T and 8 Pro, and Redmi K30 had better displays than this phone. Thanks for watching regardless!
Hay Frankie! A lot of people who owns the device said that there was an update in regards with the screen issues. Have you receive that one? TBH I really think the only reason Xiaomi can't compete with other manufacturers is bcoz of its UI. It offers a wide variety of features at a very reasonable price but the user experience is compromised which to me personally is a big thing. What's your say on this?
I don’t mind MIUI 11, but I think it’s definitely time it got a little less bloated and focused more on speed and fluidity like Oxygen OS or Stock Android. But I feel Xiaomi continues to want to mimic iOS instead. The more screenshots I am seeing of MIUI 12, the more I’m seeing obvious knockoffs of iOS. It’s a pity they don’t create their own design language for software UI instead.
Ive already ordered a realme X2 pro cause I've found this year's phones pretty disappointing but would love to see an oppo ace2 review. Seems like a better op8 alternative at the expense of an inferior software experience
Hay Frankie 🙂✌️✌️. This is a good budget phone from Xiaomi and it ticks a lot of boxes. Too bad about that screen, otherwise this would have been a sweet deal at this price point.
Agreed Mohammad! Xiaomi fanboys and people who don’t like hearing it are going to think I dislike this phone. But I actually don’t, it’s a solid device in many ways! No NFC is a big no no for me and probably many Europeans. We don't have apps like we chat allowing us to pay with qr code. And redmi 8t had nfc so I don't understand that "newer and better" model hasn't.
Yeah, I really just find it all confusing! I thought this version, had it, only to find out it didn’t. The naming scheme of Xiaomi phones is really getting out of hand this year.
@Sebastian To quote you "I can do without out"... Ok *you* can. Obviously the people complaining can't. I make most in shop payments via Google Pay on my phone. Quick, hygienic and convenient *for me*

Coming from a CN Redmi Note 7 6/64 Do you think Redmi Note 9S is a better choice than Redmi Note 8 Pro? and regarding the viewing angles... It could be bad at low light because of the pre-installed plastic screen protector, in-case you didn't know. Of course, the plastic film could actually affect viewing angles. If that's not the case... Then that's too bad...
I have the redmi note 7 64 GB and I just bought the redmi note 8 pro was going to get the 9s but after watching a few reviews I went with the 8 pro and saved some money
IPS is better than AMOLED in the long run. amoled is fragile you need to be 10 times careful on not dropping your phone. amoled is also frone to burning. And i think that blurring issue is for only idian assembled redmi note 9s
Realme another market competitor on the other hand offers similar specs (addition to a 90hz display and a telephoto lens in the same segment) offers a better user experience than Redmi. NB:- Realme has a bad image processing software. So there's always a compromise.
@@amerbasyer Both Realme 6 pro and Redmi note 9 pro max (9s in global market) retails at INR 16,999 ie. $225. The cheaper Realme 6 cost INR 13,999 ie. $185. 1:38 it does look strange. The Redmi Note 9 (G85 one) looks even stranger as it has the fingerprint reader there too. I think a horizontal layout would've been better imo

Lim Reviews was disappointed with the display too. Xiaomi using low quality Tianma displays again I think Can you use an app like Device Info hardware or Aida64 to see the display maker?
@@FrankieTech It's a shame. Seems a decent phone otherwise. I doubt it's down to faulty units as some are claiming either. Too many people having the same issue. Either that or Xiaomi is really bad at quality control and are releasing *a lot* of faulty units
@@Andrewx4 They should cut cost at the battery capacity, make it into 4500 mah I guess. Not display, coz display is the most important apart from chipset.
@@amerbasyer I kind of agree but battery life is important to me too. They should just use better LCD displays. I didn't see many people complain about the ones used in the Note 7 and Note 8 series of phones. And they were around the same price point. Slightly cheaper in most instances
Great Display is must for me while considering a phone but i trust you and Want to say loudly to Xiaomi that you just can't take Frankie for granted always, he can go critical... So be careful next time...👍
Agreed bro! I really wish Xiaomi rethinks their entire naming strategy for phones. Perhaps they can do a reset now at “10” for future phones. I envision like Redmi X series, so like an X20, X30, X50, X70 and more! Might be cool!
I agree with the very confusing naming scheme of Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 - G85 Redmi Note 9s - 48mp Redmi Note 9 pro - 64mp, 16mp selfie 30w fast charging And then, Redmi Note 9 pro - 48mp Redmi Note 9 pro max - 64mp, 32mp selfie 30w fast charging

and regarding the viewing angles...
@@Nononoone Saved some money? xD I can get 9s 6/128 for $182 and you paid $212 for basic note 8p
@@vladus88 the redmi note8 pro cost me 195 euros the redmi note 9s is 250 euros I don't trust AliExpress I trust Amazon
@@vladus88 Even if they were the same price I would still have gotten the redmi note8 pro
@@Nononoone Aliexpress is fine, buying numerous times from there
Hi Frankie, is any chance this phone can get miui 12? Cause I heard about miui 12 is a huge upgrade.
i have the miui 12.
Does anyone know if this phone is compatible with Verizon?
Is redmi note 9s same as rmnote 9 pro max?
Is it fixed now?
IPS is better than AMOLED in the long run. amoled is fragile you need to be 10 times careful on not dropping your phone. amoled is also frone to burning. And i think that blurring issue is for only idian assembled redmi note 9s
Redmi note 9s update L3 to L1 already??
Realme another market competitor on the other hand offers similar specs (addition to a 90hz display and a telephoto lens in the same segment) offers a better user experience than Redmi.
NB:- Realme has a bad image processing software. So there's always a compromise.
But that Realme 6/6 Pro cost way higher than this tho. That Realme should be compare with Mi9t.
@@amerbasyer where are you from
@@amerbasyer Both Realme 6 pro and Redmi note 9 pro max (9s in global market) retails at INR 16,999 ie. $225. The cheaper Realme 6 cost INR 13,999 ie. $185. The Redmi K20 Pro (Mi 9t in global market) is up at INR 19,999 ie. $265.
NB:- Indian prices tend to be cheaper than global prices. A $10-20 difference is seen while conversion
Perhaps if they used the same screen as realme 6 series, I reckon it could be the best bang for your buck device of this year.
Well, they used the same low grade lcd again for the Poco X3.
1:38 it does look strange. The Redmi Note 9 (G85 one) looks even stranger as it has the fingerprint reader there too. I think a horizontal layout would've been better imo
I never expected this display to do a good job in low light, so fine by me
I actually heard that the screen stuff was a software issue. It was apparently fix in the latest update.
No.
It will never fix a hardware problem.
how it act under sun light cause my jop will be under sun all time?
did they fix this problem in redmi note 9 pro global ?
Hello sirr.. xiaomi pushed an update for the display issue
I am one of your subscribers. I hope to see as soon as possible on your UA-cam channel the review for Nubia Play 5G (OLED, 144 hz, Snapdragon 765). Thanks. I wish you succes and all the best!
Do you think I should get this phone or the note 8 pro?
Awsaf Uzzaman you have to choose between snapdragon and mediatek
Nice review Frankie, I didn't knew you were left handed too just like me ahah, I hope you'll be considering the Realme 6 Pro next :D
Then he gonna see the worst LCD display on a phone
Lefties unite! Thanks for watching bro!
Lim reviews also that pointed out about the display. Seems to be an issue most users get.
K30 5g racing edition or redmi note 9s
This phone is awesome even in display maybe poor it's performance and camera and L1 widevine battery its really awesome..👍👍😷😷🤗🤗
uhmm is the display worse than the redmi note 8 pro?
In my experience, yes. Just doesn’t cut it for me, but there may be some users who are happy with this lower quality display.
I've watched a few Spanish and English reviews on the 9 pro and alot of people don't like the display
@@Nononoone Including you, cause you bought the 8 pro over 9s.
the problem is they have so many variants but can't hit the perfect notchless, hi-refresh rate device combo.
i can't wait anywmore! Xiaomi, please release a notchless hi-refresh device!
To me the centered punch hole looks bad and annoying...
I think many will feel that way, but I don’t mind too much! But the display quality unfortunately is the dealbreaker for me.
Right now Best price of Redmi note 9 series is in India, under $200 Redmi note 9 & pro version is available in India.
can we get the 3w charge test
Please camera compare this Phone with mi 10 note 10 lite
Sucks that the display on this phone is a biggest downside. By the way, do you have a chance to take a look at Realme 6 and 6 Pro?
4:19 "Snapgradon" lol.
Yeah its a pity.. oops my bad! I even did a spell check before I uploaded! Guess I’m dyslexic now! 🤣
Lim Reviews was disappointed with the display too.
Xiaomi using low quality Tianma displays again I think
Can you use an app like Device Info hardware or Aida64 to see the display maker?
Yeah I saw his review and really hoped mine would be different. But unfortunately not the case!
I agree! This was a choice they made to go with these displays. I really hope they choose not to source future LCD’s from this place again!
I am using the 9s, i dont have the screen issue
gm2 is a new sensor, the older one was gm1
Ah got it! Quality was good but not great. But still handles most daily shots decently.
Hopefully the fix these issues with the next one. I might get that one.
Wish they went 50-70bux more with a cheaper amoled screen like the samsung a series
Thank you
Please review K30 5g and compare it
Amazing review keep it up as always stay safe 🙏
Thanks bro!
hi...wala po bang hotspot ang redmi note 9s,,,,
I mean....hindi ako makagamit ng hotspot....? wala po bang portable wifi hotspot.....?
I update mo sa iyo.
Btw, kumusta display mo, may shadowing rin ba?
l
In India Mi is nuts, POCO x2 is far better than these Redmi note 9 series and Realme 6 series? just why did mi even release this wen they have X2?
Great Display is must for me while considering a phone but i trust you and Want to say loudly to Xiaomi that you just can't take Frankie for granted always, he can go critical... So be careful next time...👍
if it's a must for you then go for nothing but amoled, lcd is never perfect
Pls make a review about Redmi note 9 prp
This or Samsung s8? I am really confused sir
A phone from 2020 would be better choice
yes... too many SKUs is confusing to consumers...
Agreed bro! I really wish Xiaomi rethinks their entire naming strategy for phones. Perhaps they can do a reset now at “10” for future phones. I envision like Redmi X series, so like an X20, X30, X50, X70 and more! Might be cool!
Duhhh..the price of the phone will slap you. It s a good phone. Period
India - Redmi Note 9 Pro Max 64mp
- Redmi Note 9 Pro 48mp
Global - Redmi Note 9 Pro 64mp, nfc
- Redmi Note 9s 48mp
- Redmi Note 9 48mp, 6.53 🤔🤔
And the same issue occurs with the Poco X3...
It is budget beauty ,thnku sir for reviewing it 🙏🙏
You’re welcome bro!
I agree with the very confusing naming scheme of Xiaomi
Redmi Note 9 - G85
Redmi Note 9s - 48mp
Redmi Note 9 pro - 64mp, 16mp selfie 30w fast charging
And then,
Redmi Note 9 pro - 48mp
Redmi Note 9 pro max - 64mp, 32mp selfie 30w fast charging
Pro max versions were named by Indian xiaomi rest international versions are same
Maybe there will be a diffrence when they give The HDR 10 support with an update? Because i saw that they included HDR 10 in the launch event but i dont see it in the phone😢
Btw when u try the realme 6's display u will really think twice if this phone has the worst display after the phones u tested this year😂
It had to be better or atleast cheaper
How about poco x2
I think they should improve their mid range phones. They released too many phones and confuses consumer
It could've been the Samsung Galaxy A71 competitor if it wasn't for screen.
I have redmi note 8 the display look very bad because very low color saturation xiaomi very poor lcd panal
i'm right handed and i use my phone left handed as well. i didn't even notice until one day my brother teased me about it and then i realised it 😂😂
note 8 pro vs note 9s please sir
Mi note 10 lite unboxing video wanted.....
