So my Mazda3 is the Sport model with the "preferred equipment package" which gave me auto headlights, rain sensing wipers, alloy wheels, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. It didn't come with features such as a sun roof or fog lights. I decided that I wanted to add fog lights and man was it easy. Even when your vehicle doesn't come with the lights, it comes wired and ready for them. The plug that would go into the fog light bulb was plugged into the back of the plastic fog cover. I popped a few pieces off, screwed a new one on, added a new light stalk that added the fog switch, and bam, done. Below are the items I purchased.
Fog light kit: $39.78

Just installed my fog lights! I found the easiest way to get the turn signal stock out is to turn your steering wheel to the passenger side and the top open part of the wheel gives you a direct line of sight at the clip to just push in with a screw driver rather than having to use tiny tools to fish behind. Awesome video though my friend!
Thank you for this video - was very helpful. When I swapped the turn signal switch I confirmed how difficult it was to access the release clip holding it in place. I realized if I turned the steering wheel to the left it gave full access and was much easier. Took me 20 mins of struggling to get access before I stumbled upon this.
Awesome thanks for the feedback. Glad my video helped.
Loving your videos dude! Just bought a 2015 3 hatch gx with only 11,000km for my winter car as my rx8 is summer only. Can’t wait to add some of these feature you showed! Your walk throughs are great!
Thank you, I appreciate that! Have fun in your Mazda3, its a great car! It has become my second vehicle as my Miata is running great and my go-to nice weather option.
The Adventure Mazda What is the size of bulb for the parking light? I want to do led bulbs for it also. Thanks!
This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you
I did this exact same project on my 2014... it really is that cheap to do...it took literally 4 minutes to swap out the turn signal lever and less than ten minutes to install the lights.
Yea it was real easy. I wish popping out old lever only took me 4 minutes. Mine didnt come unclipped that easily.
The Adventure Mazda I guess I was lucky, mine came off easily, I turned the wheel so I could access that button straight on. I used the amber fogs on mine, thought it would look nice with my silver hatchback. I am trying to remain patient while waiting for the new model to be released, therefore doing a few things to enhance the appearance to keep me occupied lol.
did you already have auto headlights or no?
Pcho Daily no, no auto headlights. But when I leave the lights in the ‘on’ position, they will turn off after a few seconds when the car is off.
@@pt2729 Great to hear your success on this installation. I'm thinking of doing the same to my 2014 hatchback. Thanks @The Adventure Auto for posting this video! Cheers!
Mazdas 3s are so nice
I agree!
So wished I had seen this back in 2019... Bought a used 2014 Mazda3 Grand Touring in 2019. Came with foglights installed but not the proper turn signal switch... hence no fog lights. Dealership told me back then even if I added a new switch they probably wouldn't work and would charge me for wiring. A rock shattered one of the old fog lights and since I was replacing them anyways, decided to take a shot. Hour and half later, no wiring needed and BAM! I've Got Fog Lights!!!
You can use the screwdriver-pry method. Just turn the steering wheel to where you can see the push-tab in the switch through one of the steering wheel "holes". You don't have to use the tweezers like you did if you do it this way. I did it this way and it is WAAAYYY easier.
Great vid my man, Love the idea about changing the stalk, rto re-wire would be a pain in the derrie're, but could of managed it.
When purchasing what did you ask for at purchase, just a fog upgrade kit, gor the Mazda 3.
I'm looking to purchase in 🇬🇧 any help would be appreciated..
Thanks! I ordered the fog light kit and the stalk separately. Even non fog cars come w the hookup so that makes it extremely easy and allows for the new stalk to work.
My friend; you are a Master; thanks. I received the fog light yesterday and I saw the wires, conection, etc..Im crazy about it. But your exceelent video resolved my questions easily. Only last one: What is the name of the piece or the specific number of it that you changed? Thanks again.
Dope!!! I gotta do this on mine!!
Yea for sure. It was too easy. Moisture got into the light right after i installed. Once it evaporated it hasnt happened again. Both lights experienced moisture. Mayne it was just part of the process.
You been watching the Simpsons to long. Now go to bed homer lol
Awesome video! Where did you buy your kit?
Looking for a video to install cruise control on 2012 Mazda 3
Wait so how did you connect? You skipped that entire part. 😖
You just connect the wire to the bulb..
@@TheAdventureAuto Im assuming the wires located in the bumper for fog lights were already ready to be connected? No pre-wiring needed?
@@SayainCyril Correct. The non fog cars were already wired up.
a $1 dollar rocker switch would have been cheaper to install. You already have the wire harness & relay with the fog light kit. adding the rocker switch next to your traction control button would have been equally as fast and easy. Okay he addressed it at the end but you can get a pretty nice rocker switch to make it blend in or stand out if thats what you want and it would still be way less than $40.
Yea I personally didnt want to add a fog light switch, and adding a separate switch required a lot of extra unnecessary wiring. This way made it much easier.
What website did you order your fog lights I don’t have them on my 2016 mazda 3 i sport but would like to can you please share where did you order them from
Wait so it’s plug n play, u just take the stock plastic off n it already has a harness to plug into behind it?
Yea. Must save on production costs.
Good vid
I saw your video and was inspired. This will be my first upgrade to my 2015 Mazda 3. I don’t know much about working on cars and this would most likely seem like a stupid question to most. Since this is plug and play do I need to disconnect my battery? I’m excited to complete this project but don’t want to make a mistake. I’d appreciate your knowledge.
No you don't need to disconnect the battery for this. Good luck!
The Adventure Auto Thank you so much. Everything works perfectly! 👍🏻
So are the wiring harnesses already in place? Just need the lights and stock?
Yep just the lights and new stalk that has fog switch. Works like from the factory.
What year is ur Mazda 3? Will it be that simple for my 2018?
does this work on 2018 facelift
Is the compartment as watertight as the stock light-less piece of plastic? Want to do this but I don't want water leaking into the bumper haha
Yea it didn't let any water past it.
Did you notice a slight gap in between the light glass and the kit? I’m doing the same project. I have everything but the LEDS’s so I was test fitting and I noticed a slight gap.
Yes, there is a small space. Im pretty sure the oem fog lights have the same space. I did put the smallest amount of super glue on the black plastic to keep it from popping off. It didnt quite snap in enough to make me feel that it wouldnt possibly come loose. It is really snug now but if I needed to I could pull it off.
gunna do this to my 2018 soon. So all ya gotta do is just plug it in buy the stock and it works? No extra wiring? 😮
2018 has the new fog styling, so I'm not 100% sure how yours will work. But yea I guess all were set up to have fogs but only certain trims get them, so non fog vehicles are technically still wired up for them.
Would this stalk work in a 2014 Mazda 3 that doesn’t have the auto lights???
If I had to guess I would say yes. It would work for the fogs but maybe not the auto headlight function if there's no light sensor.
The Adventure Auto okay that makes sense! I ordered everything so we will just have to wait and see
Out west we call these Driving Lights...Fog Lights are yellow for piercing thru the fog.
Down south we don't get much fog, so I guess that's why they don't come standard :D. Fogs for me are primarily cosmetic.
I wish the 2018 model had the same fog lights as the 2016- ones
Im sure you could do similar for 2017+. It would just be a different kit.
The Adventure Mazda i just personally like the bigger bulb
Yup you absolutely right. Older fog lights look better
Order the one he has and just cut the hole for the light and it will work and look good. I have a 2018 Mazda 3 hatch that's the best and easy way for those big foglights
Would of liked seeing the process of installing the wiring kit unless the car already had the harness
Yea there was no wiring done. I plugged bulb in and added new stalk and it was wired up. The wiring that came with the kit was so complicated. This way is the way to go.
The Adventure Mazda so there are already connectors for foglights in all Mazda 3s or is the just the hatchback version?
Hey. Can you tell me why you had to remove the wheel well liner? It seems like you can access the harness without doing that.
I didnt have to remove the liner. I reached from underneath. You unscrew about 3 bolts and it comes right down.
I did this and love it, im just troubleshooting now. Everything works except my front parking lights(the ones in the headlights). I stuck the old stalk back in and it works. Any suggestions?
I have no idea what would cause just the parking lights to not illuminate. That is really strange!
@@TheAdventureAuto Thanks for the reply! my thoughts are to cut the harness and just tie them in to the headlights if I cant figure out what's going on. I haven't got that far yet thought!
Hi, do you know if the 2015 mazda 2 comes with the wiring from to plug and play from the factory?
I do not have that info for the Mazda2, sorry.
I'm about to do this. But I don't understand one thing. You didn't do any wiring? If the original fog light switch goes down in that switch cluster, how are they wired up to the blinker stick? Wouldn't they be wired into that switch cluster?
My Mazda3 had a wire that plugged into the back of the plastic piece on the front bumper that was in place of where the fogs go. So even non fog models are still wired up for having them. You basically just need to buy the lens and plug the bulb in. Then the stalk has the fog switch that turns them on. I hope that clears things up.
@@TheAdventureAuto so the OEM switch is on the blinker stick? I was thinking the OEM switch was in that switch cluster below.
Yea the OEM setup for the fog switch is a ring around the blinker stalk. The fog kit I bought came with wiring for a switch, but if you buy the stalk with the OEM fog ring it works and looks like it did from the factory.
@@TheAdventureAuto thank you so much for the quick replies. Your video will help me greatly.
Hi, will be doing this with my Mazda 3 as well but just wondering, are the wire for fog lights already there once I remove the cap? I just need to install the bulb and the fog light housing?
Yea there's already a hookup in place to easily add them.
@@TheAdventureAuto good to know. Any chance you could link again for the bulb foglight? Link you posted seems not working. Thank you so much
Im about to order the same set for mine this is awesome bro
@@TheAdventureAuto hello again. May i know what screw did you buy for the back plate or housing?
Did the fog light kit come with bulbs already?
They did come with bulbs. I removed and installed my LEDs
Do the fog lights turn on/off automatically with the rest of the lights or do you need to do it manually
The new stalk has a normal on and off switch for the fogs. If you leave it set to the on position they will come on and go off whenever the headlights are turned on.
3:14 there is a hand inside bulb omg!!!
Is the new blinker stalk necessary? Without it would the fog lights come on whenever the low beams on?
The fog light stalk is necessarily unless you use the wire kit that comes with it. I bought a new stalk because I didn't want to have to run extra wires and have a dedicated fog button. I wanted it to be like OEM.
The Adventure Auto Thanks man. I’m gonna go with the new stalk because I’m no wiring guru, only thing I’m worried about is the turn signal not returning to normal after turning but hopefully won’t have any problems with it.
@@averyburgreen4804 I never had a single issue with that. I remember seeing some people reporting that in reviews, but no issues for me. Even the three blink feature still worked fine.
Question: I love the satin black grill and trim...how did you do that?
I just taped it all off and used black plasti dip. Theres a video somewhere on my channel showing me do it.
The Adventure Mazda thanks for that info...how is the plasti dip holding up? I am in an eastern climate that gets some snow in winter and they use road salt...I am wondering how it would hold up.
Mine has held up very well. Sun and heat seem to do the most damage, but if you spray on enough coats, itll last a very long time.
The Adventure Mazda thank you for your input, much appreciated.
Is there a fog light indicator on dash ?
No. Most cars I've owned haven't had an indicator for fog lights.
Debating whether I should install DRL fog lights on my 6
DRL fogs would look really good! I say go for it!
Do you drls still work... Just made the mod but lost the drls functionality... The highbeams work but the drls down I have the resistor in that you installed on your hibeam/drls
Adding fog lights shouldnt have any impact on your DRLs. The fogs only come on when the low beams are on. Did you test your DRLs while in park or driving? Remember that DRLs dont come on when parked or ebrake is engaged.
The Adventure Mazda I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that my car doesn't have auto lights... Buying a new stalk without the auto lights and hopefully that will work
was it necessary to pass through the anterior wheel chamber?
You can do it all from underneath.
@@TheAdventureAuto cool beans! Thanks for your documentation on the m3's anatomy. I can't wait to apply this!
Will that light stalk work with a 2018 hatchback?
I cant say for sure, but if I had to guess I would say yes. Would be odd if Mazda changed that for a minor refresh
Can this be done with the 2016 sport sedan?
It can! Sedan and hatches have same front end parts.
Is the wiring already there
It is. The main part you have to add is a new headlight stalk which adds the fog switch.
Will this stalk work on Mazda 3s without auto headlights? There just won't be an auto function?
Or the auto function just won't work?
Worst case scenario is autoheadlights just wont work. Check to the right of your windshield defrost vents to see if you have the little circle auto headlight sensor. If you have that you could actually gain auto headlights too. Let me know!
The Adventure Mazda also ur a boss. Ur mods give me confidence and doing things myself. Thanks for the fast response man
The Adventure Mazda I just found you on Instagram there is a dot but I can't tell if it's a plug do you think you could send me what yours looks like?
The auto headlight circle is about the size of a nickel and sticks up a little bit.
Why would they include the wiring for fog lights if it needs a different turn signal? So dumb
Not to mention the dealership I bough my used mazda3 from was going to charge me for wiring??? It's already in the Dam Car!
Why are you running your 3 with stock wheels 😂
I generally don't care for aftermarket wheels.
@@TheAdventureAuto why?
I'm just not into it. I like the look of stock. Lowered cars on aftermarket wheels isn't my thing. Doesn't look good.
@@TheAdventureAuto but that's the fun parts about car. Or you could just go OEM+ and look for stock 18" Mazda 3 wheels
I like modifying other things, just not wheels.
What year is your Mazda, I've 2014, need to get some...and where did you buy them, thanks a lot
