"If you don't wanna play it because you're put off by the fanbase, well . . . get over yourself." So well put, I've felt the same way about this game for years.
I think it's time to experience this after that loony "fan" base keeping me at a distance. I shall treat it as a new entity, untrammelled by young voices not so young now I'd think. Whatever, I'm 46 and kids can easily yank my chain online so this was just a pile of rage when it dominated every chatroom. It's clearly not the game though. I may also be a grumpy old dude.
I feel like a lot of people believe that people won't play -EarthboundBootleg- Undertale because of the fanbase. That's not true. That's just the fanboys that use this excuse and now people believe them. Which is sad. You can't even be constructive about the game without 20 people being pissed off at you.
Never played this game. Never heard of it until earlier this year. Pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. I love EarthBound to pieces, so even the infamous fanbase can't turn me off to this. The fact that it was made by a single guy speaks to its vision. Dope review Blue Dude.
I would disagree. Just because someone makes a review criticizing something you like doesn't automatically make it that they are hungry for views. The game is outdated, about 3 years old, yet people make reviews on it because of people like you believing it's great, it has flaws, the battle mechanics are basic and bland, and the music is good until I hear it too much to the point of cringe. I do think the game was nice, but because of the fandom, it becomes hard to enjoy without picturing stupid images or cringe stuff. As well as it becomes hard to invest in because of the fandom, and how judged you can be for simply playing it because of the stereotype that goes around with that. And it's sad, but a lot of single player games face this and become over whelmed with a bad fandom that sometimes people view as bad for a very long time. And the fandom makes the game reputation in so to speech, and that's why some people don't enjoy it.
I don't crap on it because it is popular, I just hate the dialogue, characters and gameplay. It has one semi-enjoyable ending and the rest are downgrades and a grind.
literally nothing. in the past, some fans were a bit annoying by telling people how to play the game (pacifist route) but nowadays, it's calm. play it, it's really good!
I remember being a part of the fandom before it got too bad. It was a simpler time and I made so many friends because of Undertale. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and relive those moments, but now I cant bring the game up without people crucifying me for liking it still.
Well, in all honesty, it should've built up, like mario, now there's bowsette and people just dont care because the fanbase is massive and diverse, but with undertale, it's a PC game with a few ports. All in all, great, but should've had buildup, yes it exploded the internet, but that backfire. Like a fart that you breathe in, at first, you get a good laugh, then you start suffocating.
Every Undertale review video I go on has a comment about the fanbase. Who the hell cares about the fanbase? I would still play even with the "crazy" side of the fandom. Just let it go. Every fandom has this bad side. It's just Undertale had it a bit worse. But so did fnaf, sonic, mlp, batim, su, and other indie games. All of these fandoms I've mentioned have pretty much calmed down. A fandom doesn't stay bad forever but it's bad reputation stays forever.
@@yeetybo1 Every fandom is toxic when it has a bunch of overexposure and popularity. When it all comes to an end and the members of the fandom mature, then the fandom becomes less toxic.
@@__THRILLERAUDIO_ i can't really accept the "other fandoms do it so it's fine" argument, it just doesn't holdup very well to me. and while it might get better in time, it doesn't change the fact that Undertale had one of the most toxic fanbases to grace the internet. the Undertale fandom got big, and it got stupid, and it's a stigma that's not gonna drop for a while.
@@yeetybo1 well yeah. Undertale definitely had it worse. Hopefully in about 5 years the fans will learn from their mistakes. Or the fandom will just die out completely and it won't have a good side or bad side.
SuperZombieBros There is no story, progressive rewards, or any motivation other than to impress friends or deplete brain cells that Albert Einstein could've used.
6:49 "It gets me dreaming about what kinds of games I might make if I had the time to learn how to do it" That's the thing though, Toby Fox admitted he still doesn't know how to code a video game! There is even a joke in the game that the entire thing was created by a dog barking into a text-to-speech program which created the whole thing because he's that bad at coding. Follow your dreams and put your heart into it, you'd be surprised where it can lead.
Honestly, I still love this game, though I'm not obsessed like I was when it came out. This game is one of the things that made me really want to become a game developer (Though I was already thinking about doing that before this game). I never got a chance to play it myself, so I had watched someone play through the game. The fact that this game came out 3 years ago feels kinda weird to me. Also, I had seen gameplay of the demo about 2 years before the game released, so when it did, I was just wondering why it looked so familiar!
There are some games that work better as a handheld, for me at least. I got enter the gungeon and stardew valley on steam and had fun with that, but i have but more hours on the switch versions because i spend time with my gf or watch a series or whatever instead of going by myself on the computer as well as i can just pick it up and play whenever.
The fact that such a talented guy became a game developer, That he found all the right inspirations to make a game, The fact that Toby was able to come up with all these ideas, The fact that he was able to fund his game, The fact that he was able to work hard enough to finish the damn thing, all of those factors made it SUPER UNLIKELY that this game existed in the first place. AND YET, through some cosmic miracle, IT DOES. We're incredibly lucky to have a game like this. ❤
I'll copy paste: This game is trash, terrible dialogue that seems like it was written by a 15 year old, HORRENDOUS graphics yet TERRIBLE optimization. You can lag even if you have a semi-decent laptop. Genocide is legit boring and grindy with no purpose, neutral is downgraded pacifist and pacifist gives you like 1 extra room of content and another trashy boss fight where you can't even die. Sans's difficulty is overrated as hell and anyone who has played a tiny segment of the Souls franchise will know what actual difficulty is. Undyne ON GENOCIDE is actually hard, and has decent music. Possibly the only good boss in the game. The rest of it is actually grindy just for the SAKE of being grindy. If you do Pacifist, there is no reason to do neutral and genocide is actually just boring. I used Cheat Engine to speed the game up so I could finally encounter a monster. Soundtrack is overhyped. I don't get why everyone says that Megalovania is the greatest song in gaming. If you played any video game you would instantly know it isn't. Again, Dark Souls and mainly DS3 which has some of the best music I have ever heard in gaming.
Ya this game inspired me to make my own game. I’ve already started learning the software and I’ve fleshed out most of the ideas. The OST is pushing me towards making the soundtrack myself, even though I have no idea how to write music. Maybe even hiring an orchestra for a few tracks.
I only watched lets plays of it back in the day, and kinda felt that i spoiled myself too much to play it myself, but because i still wanted to pay for the experience, i bought it for 3 other people.. Wait, there is a collectors edition?
I genuinely like this game, it's charming. But no more than that in my opinion. Great music, good combat, good writing/story but way too chatty, dull puzzles, uneven graphic style
Not only is the game itself enjoyable to play, many fans were inspired to create amazing music, animations and stories because of it. I love when that happens.
Exactly. I just wish more people would ignore the idiots and embrace the smart ones. I'm one of the guys that makes a story out of the game and characters but i have to compete with idiots that did the same thing but without thinking
_CrazyCrafter672 It's a little less dead than minecraft, it's only supports besides that are story that wares out quickly, and it's battle mechanics, while quite orginal, would work better for a paper mario type style.
@@yourehereforthatarentyou Mate, we are talking about undertale, not the walking dead games. How the fuck can you unironicaly think that Undertale is more like a movie then a game
@@unsubscribefrommeplease7178 Well minecraft has been peeking this year, don't see how the mechanics would work better for Paper mario, like straight up i can't even imagine that and what kind of an arguments is that even? No shit it's "dead" it's a single player game and has no other games in the franchise to talk about, yet it still has a decently active fanbase and huge following online
This was a fantastic review. You did the right thing by looking at the game at face value and ignored the rather blatantly horrid side of the fanbase and gave an honest look at the game itself. If you ask me, that's just the break this game needed. The fanbase can be so toxic that it's almost mandatory to ignore it in order to fully enjoy this masterpiece. Thank you, Arlo. I'll be sure to pick this game up when I get the chance. EDIT: Sorry guys, bad choice of words. I think the better word to use would be "honest" instead of "objective". And to clarify, when speaking of the toxicity in the fanbase I was referring to the blatant control obsession a good chunk may have, and not those who do questionable fanart, fanfics, role playing, and other subjects that may be considered odd to some. I do not in any way consider the whole of the fanbase to be toxic, but I won't deny there is small shortage of it. Love something anyway you want, but don't be rude to others for feeling different. I also understand that those who may choose to be controlling of how others play the game may simple be passionate, but that doesn't mean I personally approve of such actions.
Celestial Mage literally any review about a video game is subjective. There is not a single objective criticism a game can receive, since someone else could like it.
I would argue the only objective criticisms a game could receive have to do with function, not style. For example, you can objectively say "this game crashes at X point or if you play more than Y hours", or "the frame rate is choppy", but you can't objectively say battle is bland or music is bad, for example.
TaliesinMyrddin That's true, but those kind of functional issues could very well be attributed to the hardware as much as the software, so I would argue that those can't be deemed criticisms of the game itself. However, that is ultimately just my opinion.
Fair enough. They are the kind of thing I prefer in a game review to opinion though; I don't care as much if the reviewer enjoyed the gameplay or story, I want to know what the controls are like and if there are any bugs/functional issues that might impact my enjoyment/prioritising the game. As you said, though, that's just my opinion of what a review is. I suppose I'm looking more for a review of the experience of playing, as opposed to what experiencing the game is like.
I don't get why people think this game is cringy. The fanbase is but the game is awesome. Also, if you like Undertale you should check out the Mother series if you have't already.
Yeah, I know that. The creator Toby Fox has also made the famous EarthBound Halloween Hack, which I have also played. The Mother series is my favorite gaming series ever.
Not cringey because of the fanbase, Fanbase didnt effect much the gameplay but the fanbase is pretty much the first impression of undertale. Its an extremely awesome game but the fans seemingly made it worse
7:18 It's about time somebody had the guts to say it. This is so true of all good meta that has a "toxic" fanbase. Good games, good shows and any other form of art should all be appreciated for what they are, not who they are enjoyed by.
Can I just say that if you’re calling a movie, tv show, video game, etc. shit just because of its toxic fan base, then you’re basically comparing apples to oranges thus losing your argument
What. It's not comparing apples to oranges. The fan base is what makes a game live on. And undertale's fan base happens to be really awful, thus giving a dislike for the fan base. The reputation of the game has gone down due to the fanbase, and that isn't making my argument lost.
Kyle not to be rude did you even watch the video? Arlo says that people who constantly put aside the game just because of its ravenous following should just get over it.
No dude, I don't hate it for it's fanbase: This game is trash, terrible dialogue that seems like it was written by a 15 year old, HORRENDOUS graphics yet TERRIBLE optimization. Yes, Undertale was an instant classic with great storytelling and humor, it's great fun and always will be, its too bad it gets so much hate because of the generalized fanbase, if more of the people who hated it because of the fans where able ignore just the crap section of the fan base and just enjoy the game "sigh" they be just might find a gem in this game
I'm on it. With Switch it's just me in the reading chair with no online voices ruining my life as an old geezer just wanting to enjoy gaming in my mid 40's. I feel like there's finally room between that initial hellspawn and now. If Arlo says let go, my early onset dementia is going with the fuzzy one.
Every argument said by anyone ever is generic, after all arguments use words made by somebody else to get your point across which is not even yours alone because the internet, the point still stands though
@@_piranha nobody mentioned you specifically. His comment was about a significant group of people who presumably think this way. Stop being so self centered and either listen to the valid argument or ignore it
I genuinely like this game, it's charming. But no more than that imho. Great music, good combat, good writing/story but way too chatty, dull puzzles, uneven graphic style. I don't feel like making multiple runs of that. Probably better as an anime? Idk
My favorite recipe for butternut squash, guaranteed to make anyone go "yes please!": 1) Cut a butternut squash in half lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds and goop from the little round bit in the center. 2) Lay the squash cut-face-up in a baking pan. The places the seeds used to be are now little bowls. Fill each bowl with two tablespoons of butter and a quarter cup of brown sugar. 3) Bake at 375F for an hour or until the flesh is thoroughly soft all the way through. Serve. (Note that the peel is inedible.)
This game......is so GOOD it is one of my favorite RPGS my favorite soundtrack has to be MEGALOVANIA just the theme is so deep and goes well with the sans boss fight in the genocide route like it or not undertale was one of the best games and still is and it will always be one of my favorite RPGS of all time
It always warms my heart to see new people discover this game and love it as much as I did when I first found it last year. No other game has inspired me to adapt it into a novel until Undertale came along. Happy gaming!
I used to be edgy and hate on this game until I came around and bought it on steam last year, it captured my heart. The simple aesthetic with an insane amount of depth really intrigued me. I honestly hope for someone like Undyne to get into Smash Ultimate now too lol, I just need a little bit more content
1:11 Well Arlo, I've actually thought more about the Mario & Luigi series and some good old avoider flash games when it comes to dodging attacks. And what about the blue soul specific attacks where we go jumping around?
the tilte... a great review and yeah this game is a masterpiece its just so good it is my favorite game and i know the fandom can be toxic but a lot of it is just so awsome and nice and im glad you played this amazing game
Really the conception that people only hate undertale about the fanbase is false not saying those people don't exist but they don't exist to the extent people make it out to be it's quite confusing TL;DR Undertale gets unjustified hate but people who criticize the game fairly are never mentioned when talking about this.
Look, the way I see it, If you let the fanbase determine wether you like something, then you're never going to enjoy ANYTHING at all Its very easy to find people who love the gme and just like talking about it, theres more than the toxic part. But literally every fandom is toxic. Literally no exceptions. Which is why it always bugs me when people go "GOD Steven Universe/Undertale/Voltron etc. is trash because of the fans" Or whatever Yes there are defs fans who take things too far, but when aren't there fans who take things too far?
This is the kind of wholesome content I'm subbed for. Especially the end, seriously, just get over yourself if you think the fandom is toxic. That doesn't change how wonderfully crafted this game is.
This is a Guide to enjoy undertale to the largest extent AND be a normal fan 1.Go in blind this game is so packed full of jokes and surprising moments even knowing the smallest amount of the game can ruin the experience 2.Choose the path you feel like going on that's where a lot of the fun comes from and having someone who forces you to go down one path will give the feeling that the choices you made weren't genuine 3.Once you've played the game and had your fun don't spoil anything you'll ruin the experience for someone else 4.Don't continuously shove this game down someone's throat if they say it doesn't interest them you'll only make them want to play it less 5.call people out when they try to say the game is bad because of the fanbase it truly is one of the worst arguments in the video game industry as a whole even as someone who thinks the fanbase is one of the most annoying group of people on the internet I feel that it's still a crappy argument 6.When someone does point out actual problems about the game such as how grindy the genocide route is don't go all fanboy and defend the game to death and not give any actual arguments if you disagree state why you disagree in a respectful manner otherwise be accepting of criticism 7.And the most important rule is always remember Sans=Ness (I'm sorry for this oversaturated unoriginal unfunny and non humorous joke it was just to tempting)
I still don't like this game, I just don't find characters that original, the musics are a little bit overrated and I don't like that the game is telling to me: "Hey! You shouldn't kill ennemies in a video game! You're a monster!", wtf? If i want to play an rpg, well, like an rpg. Plus genocide route is boring af. But I can understand why poeple like this game, objectivly, he is good! But for me he doesn't make me feel anything to play it (Oh and of course there's the terrible fanbase, but that's not an argument for disliking the game in itself).
I will say this: The fan base definitely has some REALLY awesome shit in it, but some of it is absolutely fucking disgusting. One time in Taiwan, there was this artist, she was a bit of a Sans fan girl, and she made some uh, fan girlish art of Sans. She went to a convention in Taiwan, and someone claiming to be a fan of her work, gave her some cookies, she took a bite, and it turns out that the cookies had *NEEDLES* in them. I’d rather not talk about what happened to her teeth because it’s pretty horrific, I’ll let you use your imagination for that. And yes, I learned this through UA-cam (I don’t remember the youtuber’s name)
Wait what the fuck?! That is insane!! What kind of sick person would do that?! We're they trying to kill the artist?! That is messed up, I feel bad for the person who ate the cookie
OH MY GOD. I DONT CARE HOW GROSS ANYONES ART IS YOU DONT HURT THEM CUZ OF IT. WHOEVER PUT NEEDLES IN THE COOKIES IM GONNA UUDIEI3I393 74URJEJDMD NTITROKSHE EHRJEJEKE.
I recently bought a Real Grade scale gundam, and boy, was it easier to put together than I thought it would be. It comes at the smallest official scale that bandaid makes their fully poseable kits, but it has incredible parts separation, and none of the important details are left to stickers. The way the inner frame is made, some parts like the knee pad or elbow joint, the armor moves apart and separates naturally like a machine activating all the hydraulics and mechanics necessary to move and lift heavy objects. I love it, and I plan to re-paint certain armor plates to make my own custom version. If this sounds like something that could be fun for you, but you dont wanna invest in a model kit only to find out you dont REALLY like it. I'd recommend any High Grade kit in the HGIBO line (HG Iron Blooded Orphans). Specifically any of the variations of the Graze unit. They are one of the cheaper kits in the entire gundam line, and very simple to snap together. Oh, all gundam kits are snap-fit, by the way, no glue required. So yeah, try something new. I only started myself this February, and I absolutely love it as a hobby.
Undertale's without a doubt one of my favorite games, and it's such a depressing thing to see that people avoided playing it due to the toxic fandom However, I must admit that its fanbase has/had a good side to it with many artists and writers, I have to give it that. It's a personal thing that I thank the game for discovering lovely people
Hey do you know what other game has a ridiculously low price, overwhelming amount of content, awesome music, interesting story, deep lore and top notch gameplay? Hollow Knight. And you know what would be cool? A review! C'mon Arlo I thought you liked metroidvanias!
@Anthony Blumenkron If you have only just reached City Of Tears then you're far from the end of the game. In that city, however, you can find Relic Seeker Lenm, an NPC who will buy relics (colectibles scattered around the map) in exchange for geo. Whenever you want to buy something and you have a couple of relics in your inventory you can just sell a relic or two.
Their only purpouse is to be sold for Geo. Lenm also gives you a bit of lore for each one but that's basically it. Also yeah, this game's massive. Definately should be worth more than just $15. My first playthrough took me no joke 30 hours. And I didn't even complete the game 100%.
Mole Knight I’m at the Royal Waterworks (or something like that), how far do you think I am from the ending/ what percentage do you think I’m at in terms of completing the main story?
Your channel is one of my favorites. I find your writing and delivery to be fantastic and you manage to do so in a way that does indeed stay family friendly while still being entertaining for folks of all ages. I don't remember how exactly I found your channel, but I'm I did!
Another amazing aspect about this game is how emotional the genocide route is like bruh I almost started crying multiple times especially when fighting undine
Just wanted to let you know that I have been on UA-cam for a decade and you are only the 3rd person I have ever rang the bell on. Great work and always looking forward to more
Arlo, if you have no interest in performing the genocide route yourself, I HIGHLY suggest watching someone play through it, or a highlight of it. Theres even more clever stuff in there than neutral/true pacifist combined and it honestly is what left its everlasting impression on me. I havent beaten the final boss of genocide, myself, but even with that as my “ending”, it still resonated beautifully with me. It makes me smile every time I see someone struggle through the route - not out of challenge of gameplay, but of emotion. Glad to see you liked it, and I’m glad most people in the comments do too. I hope more come to enjoy it as soon as its on switch 💖
I've loved this game since it was release and I love that you love it :-) It's awesome to see people's first impressions after the hype has mostly died down.
It's nice to come back to this review after a couple years. What an amazing game, ever since day 1 I knew it was a masterpiece and even as I've gotten older I still know it is.
7:13 Thank you :P I've kinda been in the fandom for a long time, and it kills me to see the bad rep it has- But it hurts even more when that generalization keeps them from playing the game! :(
undertale is a game that I beat awile back and the more I think about now the more I appreciate it. it's themes and how it tells a story that's not so black and white still resonate with me. fun fact goat dad my fav char. the decisions he has to make are brutal but you come to understand why
The thing is some stuff in the fandom is really awesome, like the amazing fanfights and art. if a fandom is big, theres gonna be a... interesting side to the fanbase. if a apple has a bruise you dont throw the apple in a volcano.
Tell you something else? Okay. I want to make at least one videogame of my own someday. One of my ideas is a superhero game not dissimilar to the recent Spider-Man title for PS4, though probably nowhere near as graphically impressive. The main gimmick is that it will have no progression system - you, the player, figure out what abilities you have through practice and experimentation with the controls, since the character will be a new superhero herself. This means that all the hero's abilities are unlocked from the get-go, (though there will probably be a moves list that fills in as you disover things so that you can refresh yourself later if you need to), and the only thing limiting you is your own willingness to experiment. It also means that for returning players, they don't need to worry about being powered-down if they want to experience the game again. Same for anyone unfortunate enough to lose their save data. I have this scene in my head where the game boots up for the first time, the title screen is the hero standing at the edge of a building, and when the player presses start, the hero jumps off and goes into a free-fall, with the player in full control right from the start. From there, whether or not the hero takes flight and glides gently to the street below, or to a nearby rooftop even, or contiues to plummet straight down until the hero faceplants into the concrete (no fall damage thanks to their armor) is completely dependent on whether the player figures out how to start gliding before they hit the ground, justified as the hero herself was also trying to figure out how the glide function works. I also say it'll be similar to Spider-Man because I want to make traversing the world fun. Although it might be safer to say it'll be closer to Prototype than Spider-Man, since the hero will have abilities like gliding, aerial boosting, and skating on any surface. I imagine the setting being a kind of future-city with possible floating buildings to climb and flying cars that can be bounced off, with emphasis on cylinders in the environment, to help set it apart from the typical New York setting. So...yeah. I hope that was an interesting read at least. Original idea, do not steal! :p
Yeah, I get that. I'd never try to make a game like this by myself. Ideally I'll someday be hired by an indie studio and be able to pitch the idea there or something like that. Also go right ahead, I have plenty more where that came from. :) And if you don't do it right, I can still use it but do it better. :p
6:21 I did once and lemme tell ya, IT WAS THE HARDEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE IN A VIDEO GAME! Just above collecting everything possible in Super Mario Odyssey, and beating the final level of Super Mario Land 2 on my 3ds!!! And the hardest part to bear through it all was not the grinding, the boss fights, HECK - I managed to beat Sans after failing so many times! The hardest part to bear was that feeling, that cold feeling inside myself that just gradually grew and grew and grew as I went forward with this genocide run. I was curious to see the ending, but I didn't realize how many chills would be sent throughout my entire body during this extremely long and arduous run...and when I got to the end of it...I met that chilling feeling that was throughout my body at all times during the run. Her name was TARR - the entity I had been playing as - but was not aware that that entity had been waiting for me this entire time! It's as if I had let the entity, TARR; make me feel so brutally uncomfortable! And all because I was curious about what would happen if I did a genocide run myself... *I could talk about how this applies to the real world, but it's insanely hard to explain, and I wrote a LOOOONG comment already. So Arlo - if you see this comment - give whatever feedback you like :)
No offense, but if the hardest thing you've done aside from that was in Super Mario Odyssey then that opinion holds little value. Cave Story has an insanely difficult final bossfight for the best ending, which requires you to go to 3 rooms without a save which are progressively harder, fight a boss, then fight an EVEN HARDER BOSS with 3 stages. Dark Souls is even harder, which I think you've likely heard about.
well, at least now I know my opinion is less significant than yours. But thanks for informing me about how hard Cave Story is; I've heard of that game...and yes, I've also heard of Dark Souls :) *But ultimately the difficulty of a game is subjective, meaning it's based on the player's experience with gaming and how far they were willing to crank up said difficulty level. Just so you know. :/*
THANK YOU for properly explaining how this game works and its appeal - I've seen lots of people rave about it but fail to describe how the gameplay actually works
Arlo, you always have a little hint of green in your fur. I think you can solve this by two ways: 1. Back light. Will create separation from your blue hair to the green screen 2. Add some spill bias (I think it's called) that will change the hue of edge of the key. This might be able to pull the green out of the fur edge.
Fantasy Strike will be coming to the Switch, and I highly recommend you checking it out. It's a fighter game that goes right to the basics, but has all the depth you'd expect from something like Marvel vs. Capcom. It doesn't matter if you can't do the moves in other fighter games, you can do them here easily and get right to the fun. It's got more "zoning" characters than anything else, but everyone's got their ways to get around all those various projectiles. The game's made by a veteran Street Fighter player with a hardcore competitive spirit who loves fighter games, yet wants to go EXTREMELY far out of his way to get new blood into the genre. You can literally play this thing with a Guitar Hero controller. I mainly play Garus Rook, the big stone golem grappler conjuring everything you envision those big guys to be. I couldn't actually play grapplers until Street Fighter 4 got more lenient with the inputs, and now that it's basically all at the touch of a button, I get so much precision play I definitely couldn't manage out of Street fighter. I'm also working on Max Geiger, a parody of Guile who charges his attacks simply by not moving forward. There's no crouch either, so I can't just constantly block without moving backward. I'm actually motivated to hardly ever move, and I've never encountered that in a fighter before. Ok Arlo, I went nuts. I await your Fantasy Strike review.
By simply singing Twinkle Twinkle little star and the Alphabet song you have soon realised that they both have the same theme. Although some of you guys probably already knew that huh?
Oh Arlo you HAVE to experience the genocide route (if you would rather just watch someone play it because its to hard/grindy, thats fine) but you HAVE to at least see it. Your missing major chunks of the story/lore if you dont. It is VASTLY different from the pacifist or neutral ending and would be a shame to walk away from the game without seeing it.
Honestly I agree with everything you say about Undertale, but for me honestly, when there’s no one to talk to or no puzzles to do (a good example is Waterfall), the game seemed boring. That is my only complaint about it. Have a good day, everyone
I found the game fairly easy (apart from the genocide bosses). Although, I like the game because of the story and the atmosphere (both the humour and the ambiance of some stages)
I agree. I was also very disappointed that Snowdin is kind of the peak of the game when it comes to populated areas. I would have really loved to have gotten to walk through the actual capital city and seen the crowds. The areas after Snowdin felt so empty to me.
"But you know what Undertale has going for it, perhaps even more than amazing music and a pleasantly simple aesthetic and a terrific story and abundance of humor and clever combat? It's..." ...what kind of love, Arlo?
I’m trying to make my own game. I’m trying to expand the battles with cooler things like a stomach system showing how much you can eat, expanded room to avoid bullets and a focus on making your little representation of your character feels like you. So much is planned. Dynamic backgrounds like asgore’s fight are in most battles, making the final battle against the evil control of the player who wanted to have fun even more intense.

It's refreshing to see another positive review of this game and not just another tryhard crapping on it simply because it's popular.
It has one semi-enjoyable ending and the rest are downgrades and a grind.
that explanation is fortnite players.
Battle mechanics are different, yes bland, but seriously, if your only option was grinding, it would also be bland.

Well, in all honesty, it should've built up, like mario, now there's bowsette and people just dont care because the fanbase is massive and diverse, but with undertale, it's a PC game with a few ports.
Because a toxic fanbase is still a toxic fanbase, even if you don't want to talk about it

That's the thing about the Switch. It's easier to get around to playing games on your list.
The fact that such a talented guy became a game developer,
That he found all the right inspirations to make a game,
The fact that Toby was able to come up with all these ideas,
The fact that he was able to fund his game,
The fact that he was able to work hard enough to finish the damn thing,
all of those factors made it SUPER UNLIKELY that this game existed in the first place.

To be completely fair, the people who complain about the fanbase can be just as, if not in some cases more, toxic than the majority of the fanbase.
The Mother series is pretty kickass, Undertale was based on it but you prolly knew that based on your recommendation

What. It's not comparing apples to oranges. The fan base is what makes a game live on. And undertale's fan base happens to be really awful, thus giving a dislike for the fan base. The reputation of the game has gone down due to the fanbase, and that isn't making my argument lost.

This is a Guide to enjoy undertale to the largest extent AND be a normal fan
1.Go in blind this game is so packed full of jokes and surprising moments even knowing the smallest amount of the game can ruin the experience
2.Choose the path you feel like going on that's where a lot of the fun comes from and having someone who forces you to go down one path will give the feeling that the choices you made weren't genuine
3.Once you've played the game and had your fun don't spoil anything you'll ruin the experience for someone else
4.Don't continuously shove this game down someone's throat if they say it doesn't interest them you'll only make them want to play it less
5.call people out when they try to say the game is bad because of the fanbase it truly is one of the worst arguments in the video game industry as a whole even as someone who thinks the fanbase is one of the most annoying group of people on the internet I feel that it's still a crappy argument
6.When someone does point out actual problems about the game such as how grindy the genocide route is don't go all fanboy and defend the game to death and not give any actual arguments if you disagree state why you disagree in a respectful manner otherwise be accepting of criticism
7.And the most important rule is always remember Sans=Ness
(I'm sorry for this oversaturated unoriginal unfunny and non humorous joke it was just to tempting)

wut?
you said undertale was a series
Oh I'll fix that
I still don't like this game, I just don't find characters that original, the musics are a little bit overrated and I don't like that the game is telling to me: "Hey! You shouldn't kill ennemies in a video game! You're a monster!", wtf? If i want to play an rpg, well, like an rpg.
Plus genocide route is boring af. But I can understand why poeple like this game, objectivly, he is good! But for me he doesn't make me feel anything to play it
(Oh and of course there's the terrible fanbase, but that's not an argument for disliking the game in itself).
And yes, I learned this through UA-cam
(I don’t remember the youtuber’s name)
Wait what the fuck?! That is insane!! What kind of sick person would do that?! We're they trying to kill the artist?! That is messed up, I feel bad for the person who ate the cookie
OH MY GOD. I DONT CARE HOW GROSS ANYONES ART IS YOU DONT HURT THEM CUZ OF IT. WHOEVER PUT NEEDLES IN THE COOKIES IM GONNA UUDIEI3I393 74URJEJDMD NTITROKSHE EHRJEJEKE.
Cookies with needles??? This psycho prepared meddle cookies just for this?? What the hell man💀 Weird dedication
0:11 I like how most people would say they are sorry for the bad joke but Arlo just says “ooh that rhymed”
Just bought a copy on Switch, really excited to start playing. Great review by the way!😸
Undertale's without a doubt one of my favorite games, and it's such a depressing thing to see that people avoided playing it due to the toxic fandom
However, I must admit that its fanbase has/had a good side to it with many artists and writers, I have to give it that. It's a personal thing that I thank the game for discovering lovely people
You're the hero the internet needs. Not the one it deserves
Hey do you know what other game has a ridiculously low price, overwhelming amount of content, awesome music, interesting story, deep lore and top notch gameplay?
Hollow Knight.
And you know what would be cool? A review!
C'mon Arlo I thought you liked metroidvanias!
But is the fanbase as bad as Undertale's? No? Then forget it!
@Anthony Blumenkron
Git gud.
Geo is fairly easy to obtain later in the game so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
@Anthony Blumenkron
If you have only just reached City Of Tears then you're far from the end of the game.
Mole Knight
I’m at the Royal Waterworks (or something like that), how far do you think I am from the ending/ what percentage do you think I’m at in terms of completing the main story?
I just found you and I’m already loving everything!
I have over 24 hours of Undertale soundtrack remixes in my iTunes library.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the genocide route, specifically. I assume you'll watch a playthrough of it, like most of us scrubs/softies?
*Megalavania starts playing*
Everyone: LETS BOOGIE!
“Hello, my merciful and/or phsychopathic friends!”-Arlo, 2018.
I love how now that Undertale is on Switch, more people are getting into it.
Best UT Rewiew of all time.
Not only because it's so positive
This puns were incredible.
jojo xD I thought Haedoxs Re-review was good
i always comment on undertale videos to make sans is ness jokes and i always fucking see you
Maybe I'm sans?
nibba youre not ness you liar
7:13 Thank you :P
I've kinda been in the fandom for a long time, and it kills me to see the bad rep it has-
But it hurts even more when that generalization keeps them from playing the game! :(
undertale is a game that I beat awile back and the more I think about now the more I appreciate it. it's themes and how it tells a story that's not so black and white still resonate with me. fun fact goat dad my fav char. the decisions he has to make are brutal but you come to understand why
Love to see a fresh view on the game. I could cry lol bless you
The thing is some stuff in the fandom is really awesome, like the amazing fanfights and art. if a fandom is big, theres gonna be a... interesting side to the fanbase. if a apple has a bruise you dont throw the apple in a volcano.
That's a good fucking idea. I don't have anything to add, it's just good.
If you got a bunch of other people to help you, yeah you could make this. Impossible by yourself, mind you.
Also definitely stealing this idea ;)
Yeah, I get that. I'd never try to make a game like this by myself. Ideally I'll someday be hired by an indie studio and be able to pitch the idea there or something like that.
Also go right ahead, I have plenty more where that came from. :) And if you don't do it right, I can still use it but do it better. :p
Hmmm I don't want anyone to steal my idea... Better post it online in detail!
But thanks for informing me about how hard Cave Story is; I've heard of that game...and yes, I've also heard of Dark Souls :)
*But ultimately the difficulty of a game is subjective, meaning it's based on the player's experience with gaming and how far they were willing to crank up said difficulty level. Just so you know. :/*
I know, that was exactly what I was saying.
@@memerk3919 I know lol X'P
Ilavalkie ur tim wil be the oposit of gud
These games are great and all but nothing can get close to the greatness of SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 BABY!!! GAME OF THE YEAR 29 TIMES IN A ROW!!
SUP-SUP-SUP-SUPER MARIO BROS !
TWOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
PaleMoon
I dunno... Bookworm Adventures Deluxe is kinda good...
WHO AM I KIDDING?!? SUPAH MARIO BRUDDAS TWO
Did I hear somebody say bookworm adventures?
Knack 2
I expected that someone got Wooshed, this was a pleasant surprise.
Arlo, I enjoy just about every video you put out, keep up the good work and great content.
It was fun being reminded of this game once again! Good review!
i played it on the "pc" i plan to play it again on the switch
Why a "pc"?
Ohhh the "PC"....I catch your drift *wink wink*
Andrew St.Pierre what do u think I meant by that u seem to think that u know
Can you do a tutorial on how to get butternut squash and how to make people say YES PLEASE when you serve it to them?
MiteBeeMew zxxx
Arlo are you cookie monster?
@Jarmo LatvaKokko Reggie Fils-Aime is cookie monster?
Arlo are you goblet ?
No, he's Sans.
Cousin.
He’s Nintendo Monster.
THANK YOU for properly explaining how this game works and its appeal - I've seen lots of people rave about it but fail to describe how the gameplay actually works
Arlo, you always have a little hint of green in your fur.
I think you can solve this by two ways:
1. Back light. Will create separation from your blue hair to the green screen
2. Add some spill bias (I think it's called) that will change the hue of edge of the key. This might be able to pull the green out of the fur edge.
I can just imagine being a kid and discovering this full of amazement. God I love videogames.
Now play Dust, programming and art also done by one person. I think Dust: An Elysian Tail is better, personally.
Dust is another one of my all-time favorites.
sorry to be rude, but there were actually a lot more people working on undertale.
@@tmvfan same with Dust ^^ nothing is truly made by one person
It's funny, because UnderFAIL is an Undertale AU-
Funny how the only thing that made me think that undertale Aged was it's sequel. TobyFox really keeping the fire up.
This game is everything but boring
I can come up with a game by looking at unremarkable cracks in a wall or graffiti
