    Hey Al. Been doing the homestead thing for 35 years now so not to modern here. I'm on my second tractor - 1997JD - purchased new. I agree with all that say bigger is better but they wear out too. I did the front steering seals last year, this is a common problem on 4WD tractors. Check out South Main Auto on you tube. If I remember he did a small Kubota so you can see what's required. We have alot in common from NDG to chickens to Tundra! Really enjoy your channel.

    I always mark the date and hours on the filter when i do an oil change. A silver felt marker does a great job. Also i use that same marker and mark the oil plug size and number of quarts needed on a very easily seen surface under the hood. Removes the need for getting the manual out

    Curtis Dickson is right about the blocks. I try to keep a good set of jack stands handy. They would work real well on the concrete floor in your shop, that I admit I am EXTREMELY envious of, LOL. Very nice shop. Yes, when I first saw your front axle leak, I figured it was a seal. We have, as one of our tractors, a JD 3038e, and it had the same kind of problem. Your engine oil looked like it was bout time to be changed. Glad you have a great place to work on your machinery. That really makes all the difference a lot of times. Great video.

    You can use that old oil on the outside wood to keep in shape for decades, like stain and a waterproofer. You have so many wood things. Like the boys structure, or fence posts, whatever. Helps to preserve the wood over the years.

    Hey Gina, just a little hint with your quinoa. If you toasted a bit in the bottom of your pan before you add your broth it adds a whole different flavour to your quinoa dish. I always like to toast my quinoa before I add my flavorings. It just brings a little more flavour out.

    Hi Al , looks like the pivot seals is leaking , It's not as bad as it looks to work on. Drain the lower pivot and tip that side of axle up wheel off , tie rod end off four bolts tap unit off the is a shaft inside with a bevel gear .there will be a cap and a snap ring that needs to come off the end of the shaft to slide it apart. The seal is a two seal but comes together and is installed as one peace. Oh I guess I should say I am an head equipment technician and alot of Kubota experience. Hi Al & family... Safety first, position either a block of wood or a jack stand under the front of the frame, NEVER trust hydraulics when working UNDER equip. Yup, U got an axle seal leak, look at the other side closely too. Another commenter suggested parking the tractor in the garage over the winter, sage advice methinks. ( 9 ) months outside, ( 3 ) mos. in shop & throw a tarp over it...
    It wouldn't hurt to ventilate the front axle, I doubt it is vented, if not, here is a little trick that works: Take a small drill bit, as in a jewelers bit, remove the axle filler cap, very carefully, down through the center of it if possible, drill a tiny hole straight down through it, done... When hot, pressures build up, sometimes something has to give, in this case, an axle seal and/or an O-Ring blew out. Perform a quick test next time U run the tractor fairly hard, remove the axle filler cap & see what happens & be sure to have a rag handy. If it does what I think it will do, the front differential axle housing isn't vented... There is another way to vent it, however it requires drilling out the axle housing & tapping a 1/8" pipe thread into it for a vent nipple, I don't think U need to go there in this case...
    Good luck,
    Bill on the Hill... :~)

    You should be changing the transmission filter with every oil change. Check the manual. Moisture that gets into the hydraulic fluid can clog the filter & why the manual recommends it's changed (just the filter gets changed not all of the hydraulic fluid).

    When you pour from a jug like the oil you put into the engine, the pour spout should be on the TOP so turn it 180 deg. from how you did it. Most people will pour as you did, working in a hardware store I learned this as we transferred a lot of liquids from cans etc.

  • @carlmclelland7624
    @carlmclelland7624 4 роки тому

    Al, I wish you'd pulled the RF wheel off the tractor. My guess is the seal for the axle is leaking. It's not a pressure seal, but every time you park it the residual oil will leak thru the seal. TECH TIP: Have Gina save all the link from the clothes dryer in a plastic (Walmart) bag. That stuff is SUPER ABSORBENT for mopping up oil! I always kept a bag of it i the race car trailer and another bag of it in the shop. It's fantastic... far better than shop rags.

  • @HugoHugunin
    @HugoHugunin 4 роки тому +19

    Pro tip: When pouring oil, pour from the *side* instead of from the front of the jug. You will have *much* fewer drips and spills.

    • @bradpayn8058
      @bradpayn8058 4 роки тому +6

      Yes this, and go slow enough, or keep the angle gradual enough, that the air that replaces the oil in the jug can get in by over the oil without going through the oil. It's the air bubbles going up through the oil, the "glug, glug," that makes the stream of the pour like a bunch of "S"s. If the air doesn't have to go through the oil, the stream will go straight down and stay in one spot. With some practice, you could fill it without a funnel, and not spill a drop.

    • @rick8910
      @rick8910 4 роки тому +3

      Also if you pour with the handle on the bottom side and the spout on the top it will have room for the air to get back in and pour out a lot better.

    Bad thing about running small equipment in winter when cold. Seals shrink and than you run equipment and it tears the seal so starts leaking. Store little tractor in shop in winter if planning on using. Bigger the equipment the bigger the seals so doesn't happen as much, but will. I saw how you used the tractor pushing snow and buildings. Otherwise part of equipment usage wear and tear...

  • @JoshuaMichail0

    I think I'd try cutting out the metal around the Zerk fitting under the floorboard. I'd cut out another piece of sheet metal to overlap the new hole, and weld on a hinge and weld it to the floorboard. I'd also attach a little loop to get a finger into for lifting up the new cover door. That way you still have that covering, but you have much easier access to the Zerk fitting for the linkage.
    I also think it makes sense to modify the fuel line to move the fuel filter to a more accessible location, as you talked about.

    There's a spindle that points down for the steering knuckle. There's a seal on it and it is very common for it to fail on the BX series tractors when they have a front end loader. It's a flaw in their design. It's somewhat of a challenging job to fix but it's doable. I had to change both of mine on my 2370 a couple years ago and it's already starting to leak a little again. Also using a gear oil instead of what Kubota recommends in the front axle will help it to not leak as quickly.

    Unfair Labor Practices! How could you toss out your supervisor! Don't ya just love how cats know exactly where you're trying to do something! I take photos of parts too. It is so much easier than finding a pen/paper and then remembering where that paper is. Hope the axle seal comes quickly for you. I know how vital a tractor is. I've got 70 acres to manage here. My biggest problem is the soft ground that stops everything in its tracts. Can't do anything during mud season. I am finding the tractor (M6060) too large for some tasks so now we are looking for a smaller one, maybe like yours. Blessings to all.

    Besides the big puddle under the tire from the steering pivot, theres a bigger puddle under the right side of the bucket??? looks like a line or one of the rams needs looking at - Once a grade tractor starts leaking youre going to be fixing leaks every month - 8 years is a LONG time for these new tractors that are made of plastic- might be time for a new one and get the next size bigger since you tend to work that one really hard....... Probably from ice that melted from the bucket. That "plastic" tractor will be running in 50 years with proper maintenance.

    Open your door and take your pancake air compressor. Get a blow gun blow dust/ dirt out engine bay area. Specially radiator area. But stay back far enough so dont damage radiator. It help life of your tractor. Aslo see if refers too transmission filter also. On our bigger farm tractor have left. Normally 2 oil change on motor change our lower filters and air cleaner fliter. Just some helpful advice hopefully. Since they dont give these tractor away.

    Al, check your manual for your tractor, if it is like mine, the front axle can also use gear oil. Being that it is a lot thicker, it may not leak. I may use that when it is time to change mine.
