Gentleman I had a question with regards to the Warforged Envoy. Under its integrated protection rules it states all you need to get heavy armor is that proficiency. It mentions nothing about a minimum strength requirement. Am I correct in assuming you could get away with a 10 strength and still wear full plate without negative consequences?

i would still say Half elf: +2cha, 2x+1 (aka +1str, +1con), darkvision, fey ancestry vs magic, 2 free skills and 3 languages to start with
and you are a top ace diplomat a wanderer as a half elf anyways.

What about Aasimar with resistance to necrotic and radient right off the bat as well as 2cha and different +1 depending on sub. Additionally, healing hands to add onto lay on hands in a pinch.

Minotaur! When you cast a smite as a bonus action, you won't have other bonus action options for the duration of the smite unless u get shield master or polearm master/lance talents. So the minotaur racial is perfect to fill the bonus action gap, freeing a feat slot for something else and maximizing damate output.

I actually play that Juggernaut Warforged Paladin and as a conquest oath I find it so fun. The underrate part is the internal armor that gives a huge AC boost at low levels that I think gets a bit overlooked. In terms of RP my DM has it as an Arcane magic due to the power core and the Warforged were built as the army for the ancient Giant King who has long since disappeared to memories but the few remaining have an undying loyalty to the giant and get along well with giant-kin. I think it’s such a fun build and the charisma is a bit lacking but as a pure Paladin tank me and my friends love the play

@@Nerdarchy Protector Aasimar is superior for damage compared to the races you listed as it levels due to radiant soul for 1 minute. Adding +20 damage to a successful attack once a turn + smite for 1 minute when using radiant soul, puts the class into damage superiority over the other classes when fully charged. As the Aasimir levels, it gives the class more and more of an edge over a half elf in damage dealing. Additionally, +2 Cha + resistance necrotic/radiant does help.

And you take 100 points of poison damage whenever you doff or don the armor. Does that kill you?"

I personally like the idea of a hobgoblin Oath of Conquest paladin. Someone that’s lawful evil but leans far more to the lawful side of things than evil, almost being lawful neutral but still heavily believes in authoritarian rules and is adventuring in order to gain enough strength to fulfill their ambitions. Haven’t had the chance to try this out but it feels fairly cool.

My best friend actually picked a Fallen Aasimar for a Paladin of Conquest and we joked about how he is basically playing the Lich King with his backstory. But yeah the whole oneshot we are playing my character who is the opposite of his an Aarakocra Monk is basically fucking with him and showing him up the whole time. Like every time they butt heads or go against each other my character wins or in combat my monk will out do him by dealing more damage and killing more enemies. So I'm thinking now if we kept going could I have made him an Oathbreaker to finish the whole Lich King joke. Cause my character isn't scared of him, constantly is shown to be stronger, win the checks between the two, defies him at every turn cause (Lawful Evil Paladin vs Chaotic Good Monk), and basically either directly or indirectly makes him break his oaths repeatably. I'm basically rambling but yeah the whole time the whole table is just being assholes to each other. I mean Xi my monk tried to be nice to them and talk to the point he caught and made a retarded seagull his pet to share with the party but noooo they wanted to get drunk while speaking draconic without him. The point being is Weapons are for the weak and do monks next please.

Another positive for the warforged is that they get to add their proficiency bonus to their armor class, even on top of their heavy armor mode. This makes them pretty damn tanky right off the bat even if you opt to use a heavy weapon and forgo carrying a shield. If you do decide to use a shield, you're looking at 20-21 ac at very low levels which gets even better if you decide to shield of faith yourself.

Half elf all the way. Point buy for 16/8/16/8/10/16 (IIRC). Variant for extra wizard cantrip, booming blade. Protection fighting style. Makes for a fantastic support/controller tank with the right spells (a well timed Bless can turn around an encounter).

Right now im playing a 1/2 orc pally. Built primarily to tank. But damn smite damage is nutz (because i tend to only use it on crits). She has an interesting backstory: Many generations ago there was a demonic horde encroaching upon the human kingdom. The gods sent a vision and a message of a place they could defend from, they just needed to build the wall. However when the god's followers got there, they found it to be the orcish lands. The orcs eventually agreed that the demons were a threat to all and allowed the wall to be built, under the condition that the humans join their clan. Bloody battle followed, good triumphed and TADA: A noble 1/2 orc bloodline.

Before watching the video I'm going to share my favourite race for a paladin, the Fallen Aasimar. Redemption or vengeance paladin. There may be better things out there stat vize but the role play potential of a fallen Aasimar seeking redemption and having to struggle with unstable, dangerous and paradoxical situation of having Devine and necrotic energy flowing through its vains. Heh.
My absolute favourite is a certain campaign me and a few friends of mine are playing, in it in a fallen Aasimar, but something I've disguised with the gm, I'm also secretly a lich. Now I don't have any of the liches powers outside of the resistances, those unlock and get stronger as I level up. (Also it's not a combat heavy campaign) the other players don't know this about my character and it's my job to keep it secret as long as I can while giving hints along with the gm.
The story is that my paladin was a hero that lived about 400 years and died, then a few months after his death he was brought back by a religious group with the help of a shady figure. But something went wrong. They weren't using true resurrection like they thought, and he was turned to a lich and came back to life that way.
The hero now struggles with urges to murder and destroy and dominate, only held at bay by his inherent good nature.
He doesn't remember his passed do to the way he was brought back (explaining why a previously level 20 character is a level one) and him level will be him slowly regaining his memories.
The role play potential alone is incredible. And I'm loving it ^^

Imo first choice is Variant Human, because they are well-rounded and it's fun to have some specific feat at start to make your character more original and distinguished from other 1st level characters. Also you chose one skill for additional flavour
The second choice is Half-Elf. +2 Cha and +1 to two other attributes gives us nice starting 16, 10, 15, 8, 10, 16 distribution. We have no penalties to dex and wis rolls, we have 16 in STR and CHA so we can take two ASI later to bump them both to 18s and we can take Resilence (CON) to get proficiency is CON and have 16 CON.
The best variant imo for Half-Elf is Drow because you get Fearie Fires and it uses Charisma so you will have easy AOE advantage vs group of enemies and saving you Vengeance Oath for bosses, same as Hunter Mark. And you get two skill profs, so we can take some that we lack from background or class and get nice bonuses to it.

Dragonborn is statistically the most popular paladin race and it's not hard to see why, the statline is basically made for paladin. Bonus to both your main stats, damage resistance and CON-based breath attack. Plus you play as a hulking dragon man, you look like you can literally pick up and break cultists across your knee. It's a huge power fantasy and people love it.
Half-elf is one that also comes to mind. You get a CHA boost and +2 to any stats you want, with skill versatility. There's a classic appeal to a half-elf paladin: you're an exemplar, taller, prettier and more intelligent than the average person, and you have a hidden lineage that grants you special powers.
For something really different, I'd recommend triton for a paladin. Bonus to STR, CON and CHA, with a swim speed, cold resistance and extra crowd control abilities based on CHA. This is a fantastic choice if you want something that works well mechanically and is really unique.

If you want to do the Dex paladin thing, the Half Elf is not at all bad. Cha +2, Con +1, Dex +1. AC-wise you're pretty much fine if you take Defense and use a Shield and use light armor: Studded, Shield, good Dex and Defense style will get you to AC 21. You're probably not going to be the heavy damage dealer someone who optimized Strength and heavy armor would be, but you can do other things. You'll probably be more of a buffer than pure damage dealer so the Inspiring Leader feat is an excellent addition.

(Before I start, apologies for any misspelling) I still think Aasimar and Dragonborn are the best (I’m only go by what’s in the official books and handouts (preferably if you can get them in a physical form so the only exception is the Elemental Evil player’s Companion and that’s the only non physical thing). Aasimar is already explained, but there are so many thematic things with Dragonborn. Not only are you getting plus Strength and Charisma, but if you want that lawful good deity you have one in the form of Bahamut (who if I recall has a history with Paladins and can turn his Paladins into platinum Dragonborn). The Dragonborn breath attack reminds me of a smite (I admit mainly because of you go Golden the flames could be like purifying flames). Dragonborn also go extremes so if you want the ultimate good guy paladin or ultimate lawful
Good paladin (or maybe make the opposite) they fit well.

I'm a little surprised that the Envoy out ranked the Half-elf. Half elf gets the two extra skills versus the one for the Envoy. They both have two + 1 floating stats. The half elf gets a plus 2 versus a plus 1 in charisma for the Envoy. The half-elf also has dark vision. The lack of a strength requirement for heavy armor proficiency for the warforged is a point in its favor. But overall like I said I'm mildly surprised

Why isn't the half-elf #1 on the list? It fulfills all the categories having the best stats, traits, and thematics esp for Oath of the Ancients. +2 Cha, +1 to two diff stats (Str and Con) plus 2 skills, 2 extra languages, darkvision, and adv on saves v charm. It's better than the envoy warforged in all the ways you cited as being good. While the envoy gets armor, they cannot get magical armor. In my book, that makes the half-elf both better stat wise, trait wise, thematically but also potentially better with magic items as well.
