    I have a large jar for pennies and another for the rest. #smallyoutubearmy

    Nice to see someelse that does the same thing. Yes it does confuse cashiers if you don't give thrm the pennies upfront.

    I put my pennies, nickels, and dimes in a small jar, but I keep my quarters separate as I use them. I live in NYC and quarters are always handy for making small purchases (chips, water, gum, or cup of coffee from the corner store), public transit (subway, bus), and laundromat.
    I usually save my pennies, nickels, and dimes for a calendar year (Jan-Dec) and last year's count was a little over $25.00

    • @tarynesstudio
      @tarynesstudio  5 років тому

      Those are all great uses for quarters so I can see how it's beneficial for you to keep them separate. Good job on saving the rest!

    Good Point! I used to use a coffee cup on my shelf. I always try to avoid coinstar 10% for a machine to count it is a rip off!

    • @tarynesstudio
      @tarynesstudio  6 років тому

      Definitely try to avoid using Coinstar so you don't pay the fee! See if any of your bank branches have a machine that will count it for you, for free. :) Thanks for watching!

      Many of those machines have a gift card redemption option that doesnt take any % of your money. Our local machines at Wal-Mart and Kroger have collectively at least 20-30 different gift card options (food, travel, entertainment, goods, etc categories). Love that idea.
      Not alot of folks use or know about it though its listed on the screen. (Gift card, donate, or cash are the first three options and u go from there).

      That's great to know, thanks for sharing this information! The last time I used one of these machines I didn't see this. That's useful if you are going to do some shopping at one of these stores. :)

    I always check the ground for coins when I am out. One day I managed to scrounge up 35 cents on the floor in a Walgreens. My payment came to 24.31 and the clerk was so glad I payed in exact change. Didn’t want to tell her I found it in the store. LOL

    • @tarynesstudio
      @tarynesstudio  4 роки тому

      SCORE! I love when that happens! We all need exact change these days.

    I have an old plastic UTZ Pretzel container. It looks like a big fish bowl. 56oz. I save my change all year and cash it in once a year. It usually gets 1/2 full and even then it's pretty heavy. I always get around $400 when I cash it in. I really should just wait until I fill up the whole container. I also save every $1.00 bill I get back in change and see how much I save at the end of the year. Last year I saved $1,200 in $1.00 bills.

    I put all of my Nickels, dimes, and Quarters in a Ziploc bag and then i have a seperate bag for the pennies. Then each week when I have the house to myself i'll count the coins and then wrap them up.

    I am a saver as well as a coin collector, so I save kind of like you do, but I also sort through the coins and have an eye for certain more valuable ones. It's a fun hobby/investment but definitely more time consuming. Anyway, I loved the video and I think you are very photogenic!

      That's great to have that knowledge! The only thing I know is when there is a real silver coin in the batch. I keep those, but it doesn't happen as much as it used to.
      Thanks for the kind words. ;)

    Best way to save I do it and cash in once a year or so..last year my change brought me a brand new deep freezer. I was raised to save my change.what people don’t remember is we were taught this as children because most kids had a piggy bank..It’s no different now because as adults we should all have one..I have done it for 32 years.. And you will not miss the coins

    • @tarynesstudio
      @tarynesstudio  5 років тому

      Hi Donna, that's wonderful that your loose change was enough to buy a new deep freezer with just one year of saving! Bravo!
      I couldn't agree more, we won't miss the coins and it's a great way to save a little.
      Thanks for sharing your story!

    I'd rather just mix the pennies. I don't need something else to think about while checking out. It all ends up the same dollar wise.

  • @kittenpisces
    @kittenpisces 6 років тому

    My suggestion is to also take the time to count your Change yourself because those change counting machines take a percentage as well so you’re loosing right there.

      I agree, Coinstar is the one I know of that charges a fee, I think 8%. When I take coins to my bank, they don't charge me anything.

    Saving change is pointless I know people who let change sit in jars for a decade. I just cashed in $100 worth of change and now it's in a account with 2.45 interest

    • @tarynesstudio
      @tarynesstudio  5 років тому +2

      I don't feel that it's pointless, and if you don't want that $100 of change you saved, you can send it my way! :)
      I agree that it shouldn't sit for decades, but saving for a while then cashing it in is better than never saving it to begin with.
