This weekend I replace the battery in my 2013 XC60-T6 and tried your BMS reset procedure. No flashing battery icon on the dash afterwards. Tried it several times. Afterwards, I checked the BMS reset counter in the ELM Car Scanner and it remains like 2800 days since last reset. I also tried disconnecting the BMS wire at the battery for 30 seconds and reconnected it. Didn't seem to have any effect. Any thoughts?
@@EV_OBD Thanks for the quick response. I finally got it to work this AM. I promise you I followed your instructions to a T numerous times with no luck. Today, I set the lights to "Dipped" before turning on the ignition, then followed the procedure. With the car scanner on and the SoC and Days since reset showing, I watched the display. Sure enough after about 10 seconds, the Days since Reset dropped to "0" and the SoC jumped from 71% to 83%. In all previous tries, I had the Lights set to Auto when turning on the ignition. Then switched to Dipped after Ignition was on. Not sure if this was the change that allowed it to work, but worth noting just in case. If that is the case, you might want to clarify that Dipped "on" before Ignition "on" is the correct sequence. Also in my case the Battery icon does not flash on the dash even though the reset does work. Again many Thanks!

Thank you for these very detailed vids, I've tried charging my battery numerous times, just refuses to hold a charge. If I get a new battery, will this work for a 2018 v40?
Our 2012 V70 D4 (163PS) geartronic died on the A1 at the weekend. Lost power, came to a halt and cut out but lights remained on and all electrical functions unresponsive. Nothing would operate at all. DIS cycled through every fault message, erroneously reporting bulb failures, immobiliser needed resetting, ABS failure, brake failure, SRS failure, DTC failure, gear selector service required. Basically every fault its capable of displaying was displayed. Battery charge was at 11.8v. No response when connected to a jumper pack. Recovered home (with a locked handbrake, so getting it off the truck was a bundle of fun). Replaced battery with new one that was charged to 13.04v. Handbrake did disengage but still no response from car at all. Torque Elm 32 reads 0 faults. Double checked it with my old Autel OBD2 unit and that is same, 0 faults. Any ideas anybody?
Was it raining that day? Maybe water leak at CEM connectors? What are the error codes in Car Scanner? Fuel pump failure gives no error codes, but all electronics would work.

I hope you still monitor the replies. First thanks for your Volvo videos. I have a 2013 XC60 and I don't think the battery Brand New battery reset was ever done correctly. My big expensive Optima Yellow top is now 1 year old and I've been fighting the low battery warning and it still gets so low it won't start. Volvo confirmed battery was great and charging system fine. Should I try the BRAND NEW reset even though its 1 year old? The low battery warning fix doesn't last long. Thanks so much, I'm subscribed.- Love your background music+++
1 year old is still relatively new battery, you can do this reset, but I guess Volvo service already did it when checked your battery. I hope you lock the car when in garage? I would first read the parasitic drain (quiescent current average) with Car Scanner. How much SOC does it lose overnight? ua-cam.com/video/o9-f7Q2cvps/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/ASJaTxL9c0Y/v-deo.html
Just the question, just had new battery fitted, what would happened if i dont do this reset? ( Dont really care about start stop) but wonder if this will have any implications on other electronics and overall on new battery?
Can this hurt to do it if it is an old battery. I only ask as I've just bought a 2016 XC60 and I'm getting the low battery message, the battery does not look that old, I'm wondering if the previous owner replaced the battery but did not do the BMS reset, but if they didn't buy a new battery and it is indeed an old or original battery will resetting it do any harm? TIA
Hi Alan, thanks so much for your video. My XC60 2016 T5 just had its main battery and aux battery replaced. BMS has also been done as per your video shows, but the S/S is still not functioning. I'm still getting the same message as before the batteries got replaced - "the start/stop system needs review by a Volvo service technician to ensure optimal fuel-saving functionality." Do you have any idea about it? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for this video with details. I was getting the Low Battery message frequently even within periodic external charging in 2013 s60 T5. Is it recommended to install an Exide battery (size 48) and 750CCA rating (sold by homedepot)? My battery is 5 yrs old, but a battery test gives it good condition with 90% capacity. Or should I stick with oem 600cca battery?
I’ve done this reset on a used Volvo without having changed the battery following another guide that didn’t warn it should be done on new battery only. What is the risk of driving like this? Any way to revert the reset?

You can delete that DTC code, maybe it was a temporary one-time issue, caused by voltage drop when you disconnected the battery. But if the problem is real, "check" wil reappear again.
It did not work on our 2012 S80. I noticed that you hold the start button for a few seconds but I only briefly pressed it. Later when I press the rear fog light, the LED beside it did not turn on. But for yours it did. Please advise

But it looks this method did not work, cause I got the low battery message again (but I didn't scan). Do you have any idea? Or I have to use another physical method.
This trick should be used ONLY when you installed new 12V battery! This is not for resetting "low battery" warning! You can monitor the battery state of charge (SoC) in Car Scanner app - "low battery" warning appears when SoC drops below 60-65% SOC. In such case car should be driven more until battery is charged to 75-80% SoC. Good advice: don't listen to music with engine off. Any additional electronics may drain the battery when car is parked - check your quiescent current: ua-cam.com/video/Op6PcVd5O2g/v-deo.html
@@EV_OBD Thank you very much. Yes, I changed new battery in February and got low battery message in March just after one month, then I tried Google and found your method. I will replace my battery with a new one. Do I have to reset the BMS and then have to briefly disconnect the sensor for a few seconds so that the message no longer appears? Or when resetting the message will no longer appear?

@@EV_OBD Sorry, to clarify, I had replaced my battery about three weeks ago and the warning didn't go away. The prior battery was about 5 years old. I continued to see the warning and even had the local Volvo dealer test it, and they said the battery was fine, and that the car sitting due to COVID was likely why it was low, but that didn't really make sense to me since I was still driving pretty frequently. This reset after replacing the battery seems to be the step I was missing.

@@EV_OBD hmmm ok! Some Volvo owners in a Brazilian WhatsApp group reported some random problems when they change the auxiliary battery. Keys that stop working, cars been blocked etc. Why does it happen?
I don't know. Main battery has BMS sensor and must be charged only via car body (negative clamp to a bare metal part). But auxiliary battery must be charged directly on + and - poles, because it has no BMS sensor. Both methods are described in car's user manual, best to follow the manual.
@@EV_OBD Thanks for the help mate! I've got another question if you're able to answer it. In my car when reading the accelerator pedal position in CAN and PWM it only goes up to 69% never higher under any conditions and is 8% with my foot off the pedal. I don't have another car to compare it to, I've surmised it's because of my two engine error codes; DPF below threshold efficiency and turbo under boost condition. But even if I clear the codes the pedal position is the same. I am wondering what the readings from a fully working car would be. I've already replaced the accelerator pedal with no change so can't be that, any help would be much appreciated.
@@EV_OBD Thank you. I replaced the battery 1 year ago and have been having the low battery warning ever since. I measured the voltage and it is 12.5. I wonder if that's the right voltage? Do I need to buy a charger to charge up the battery before resetting it?
Fast forward to 1 year later.... Shortly after I reset using the above instructions, the low battery warning came up again. But I've already used this battery for 2 years. Should I reset the BMS counter? This is an AGM battery which is supposed to last 7-8 years intead of the OEM battery that only lasts 3 years.
I have a slightly different situation. After installing a new battery I realised that my start/stop didn’t work properly. After searching for a solution I discovered this channel. So I didn’t do this procedure immediately after installing the battery and now the start/stop still doesn’t work, in the menu it says that the battery power is too low or not on temperature. Does someone have a solution for this?
Thank you for your quick reply. I don’t get the “low battery” message. My start/stop stopt working properly after new AGM battery. Edit: by no “low battery” message I mean. The message doesnt appear on the main screen. In the drive-e menu under start/stop, it shows the reasons why it is unavailable. There it shows dat either the battery is recharging for the start stop system or the battery’s temperature. I travel daily at least 100km distance, I would assume that it would be enough to recharge the battery

Thank you, this worked on my 2016 S60.
