I've never understood why I've never been happy with any mattress I've bought. Now I realise I was completely clueless. Thank you for this comprehensive video!
My wife and just ordered ordered a SAAKA mattress based on the information presented in your guide It was the 4th video guide I viewed and, by far, the most helpful. Thank you.
DONT APOLOGIZE Hey Marten, thank you for the great video. It was helpful, very well researched and well produced. Here are a few friendly suggestions. Don’t apologize for presenting lots of information. That’s why we’re watching it! Maybe try using some more on screen graphics. For example… You mentioned the name Mattress Clarity several times but I couldn’t quite catch the name. I had to go to the description to find it. A video that long could use a 30 second intro… Hi folks my name is Marten Carlson, I’m a writer and researcher for a company called Mattress Clarity and we inform consumers about mattress options. In this 12 minute video, we’re going to cover these different points… then show a bar graph which illustrates how long are you going to talk on each topic. It’d be great if you could have them nicely timed to three or four minutes each. It’d also be great to have a colour-coded bar during each segment. Say if you had four segments, they could each be red, yellow, blue or green. So, as I’m watching the segments, I’d see a graphic at the bottom of the screen that says…1 Comfort (in a red bar) then, 2 Price (in a yellow bar) then, 3 Size (in a blue bar) etc. That way it would make it very easy for viewers to go back to the video and scan through to find the coloured segment that interested the most. I saw in the description that there are also some other interesting things that I can access. Briefly tell us about those in the video. I really liked that you got right into the information quickly and it was a no-nonsense video. There’s too much ridiculous and stupid stuff on UA-cam especially with mattress commercials… Goldilocks, a big foot creature in a forest and the egg drop guy. Purple Mattress should ditch 90% of their content. It’s so bad it’s insulting. There are also so many info videos that include too many distracting snippets of TV shows and movies. They’re peppered with excerpts of SpongeBob, Donald Trump, Justin Bieber or whatever else. Producers forget the whole point of the video; useful information. They want to be overly entertaining, overly creative and it all backfires by becoming too distracting and annoying. I think you should also briefly mention some other helpful points like having a mattress cover that zips up to protect from bed bugs and liquids etc. So, thanks again, you’re a good presenter and if you could change one small thing, I think he would look better without the beard. It was kind of distracting too. Overall it was a great video and thanks for doing it. Lorne Holman in Calgary Canada 🇨🇦
I look for comfort, pressure relief, and durability. This video is excellent information - especially for buying a mattress in a store. Being informed is key.
What a huge help this video has been! My current mattress was bought in 2009 and options have changed a lot. I think I now have a good idea which mattress will work best for me.
Very informative. As a side sleeper i like an all foam mattress, either memory foam or latex work for me. I am 150lbs so i don’t really need the extra support of a coil mattress. I like a medium firmness mattress and i like to sink in my mattress a little thats why i like memory foam a little more than latex. Comfort and support is the two most important things i’m looking for when picking a mattress. Great video, very helpful.
This was very helpful! You broke down every part of what to look for in a mattress. I am currently seeking a new one as my current one is most likely more than 13 years old. Time for a new one and possibly a hybrid.
The most important thing to me is the feel and support. I want it soft w/ enough sinkage to conform to my body w/o making me feel super-stuck (as if it was a true body pillow). Next, I want it supportive enough to last approx 10 yrs.
The most important thing to me and I’m address is comfort obviously, I tend to like the medium to soft mattresses that sleep cool that’s why I like hybrids.I am a side sleeper that’s probably why I like those values
I'm a side sleeper and I definitely want to sink into a soft mattress. So memory form is definitely a nice option for me. I've been wondering about the hybrids but I guess it depends what kind you get as well. It's nice to know both options are definitely for me. I'd honestly love a California king. Honestly the most important thing for me is feel as I'm disabled and in bec 90 percent of the time with size right along size. I definitely need under 6 firmness. Thank you for doing this!!
What's most important for me is longevity. I stay on my bed most of the day/night (paraplegic) so I end up really roughing up a mattress in less time than normal. But that's mainly because I've been on used inner spring mattresses I've gotten from family. The next big thing I look for is firmness and if I'm going to sink in and if it will be hard for me to roll over. I'm a side sleeper so I would like a latex or foam..but I would love a hybrid! The 3rd thing I need is a mattress with plenty of edge support. I have to sit on the edge and push down to raise myself up to transfer to my chair. A few mattresses have been so soft that I could hardly raise myself and it made it hard to get in my chair. Thanks for the info! So much more goes into it than I ever knew!
Great video with complete and clear information. My main criterias are comfort, pressure points relief, heat dissipation and support. They are of equal importance for me!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR WEIGHT! I'm a 225 side sleeper having pain from a way too firm mattress. I've put about 10 hours into reading and watching reviews and know I'm right on the cusp between a foam or hybrid mattress. I've heard 250+ as a benchmark for switching to hybrid, but had a hard time finding anyone of my weight and sleep style sharing thier opinion, UNTIL NOW! You have confirmed my leaning towards a hybrid. THANK YOU!
The feel of the mattress. Looking for a bed with less back and neck pain. I'm honesty looking for a good where I won't have trouble falling asleep at night.
I had a few questions as someone who has chronic back pain but is also very concerned with the harmful chemicals that are in a lot of mattresses today. However I noticed that there are only 62 comments and only two to three of them received somewhat helpful replies. The other very few comments that received replies were only replied to with, "thank you", "you're welcome" and "yeah that's definitely something to think about" which, in my opinion is not what the person or people were looking for as a response to their questions. I get that it can be hard to respond to all of the comments in your videos but seeing as this video only has 62 comments I feel like those 62 people deserved better replies. Especially since it is suggested that the audience leaves comments with their questions and concerns. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi guys, I have a question. When you are a side AND stomach sleeper? What is the best mattress? Medium?? Thank youuu again, this vídeo help me a lot !!! 🙌🏻🍀
I look for comfort and something cooling. I sleep hot. I’m also a side sleeper. Currently looking to buy a new mattress for my daughter. She’s a back sleeper and also sleeps hot. The hybrid looks like a good match.
I'm a side sleeper and 250lbs and my wife is a stomach/side sleeper and 165lbs. We both like to sleep cool. Want a Cal King and keep it under $1500. Can you suggest 3 we should look at and does one stand out over the others? Thank you.
Have you two taken a look at the Helix mattresses? They can do split mattresses based on your specific preferences. Since you and your wife have slightly different preferences, this might a good place to look. I also like the Bear Hybrid which has a balance of comfort and support. It sleeps quite cool and I found it to be good for back and side sleeping. Also, consider, the Amerisleep AS3 or AS4 if you want to go super comfortable. The AS4 is usually around $1899, but it is under $1500 right now because of their sale.
I have never slept on anything but an innerspring mattress and even with all the reviews and information I still have not really found one that stands out as having everything I think I would want. I'm sure I'm just being extremely picky, but with how much they cost I have to be picky.
My husband and I are both side sleepers. I love the comment you made about edge support, because I'm definitely an edge-sleeper, too! We are suffering through the last part of the life of our king spring mattress and are wondering what we should get. We want a cooler feel, comfort for side sleeping (my shoulders and neck are most affected), but firm for my husband's back trouble. Our biggest issue might be that the hubs is over 200 lbs and I am 120 lbs. Should we be considering 2 twins pushed together or can we find a great mattress to suit us both?
Getting two twins or Twin XLs is definitely an option given your different sizes and needs. I would also take a look at Helix. They will customize each side of a mattress separately to match what you both need.
Thank you for your very informative videos. I've only recently had the need to replace my old hand-me-down mattress, so first-time mattress shopping I had no idea what to get. I eventually got the original Nectar mattress, but it's slightly too firm for side sleeping for my hips (my shoulders are fine). I'm a combo sleeper and around 110lb and I worry if I get a softer mattress, then when I sleep on my back and stomach, that will hurt. Do you have any recommendations on if I should switch to a softer or hybrid mattress/get a mattress topper/stick with this one?
I am retired and am on my bed many hours a day beside sleeping. How do I find the most durable mattress? I weigh 180, but my 50 pound dog is here all day too!
Not true, the inner springs mattress can be as soft as you need depending on the gauge of the springs used, they are also the most durable, without a good base you end up with a bed that's junk in less than a year. I agree with the hybrid type, good coils and premium materials on top. Also remember the lighter the person is, the firmer a bed will feel.
Why haven’t you ever reviewed Airelooms, Beautyrest and Sterns?? Firmness and both size is important to me. I went from full (for years) to a queen for less than a year before now wanting a king.
In terms of bounce and motion transfer are latex and inner coil matresses the same? Also which one will generally last longer and not sag - the latex matress or the inner spring matress
Need a new mattress California king. We have a hybrid. My side is perfect my husband’s side is sagging. Any suggestions I sleep on my back he’s side and back. What about a pillow top ? Any review on that? Latex seems it’s not as comfortable...
What are the differences between a Sealy a Posturepedic Grand Avenue 14" Cushion Firm Pillow Top versus a Sealy Posturepedic 14" Humboldt ltd Cushion Firm Pillow Top Mattress?
what suggestion for perhaps a hybrid or latex that is not too heavy for a day bed full size a side sleeper and back sleeper i am petite person 120 lbs and not too pricy and about 10-11 " thickness ?? or like med firmness
Wow you are 6'7"! I am shopping for someone who is 6'8" and sleeps very hot so can't use memory foam beds. What mattress would you suggest for him? He is also around 400lbs.
I would imagine trying to fit a mattress back in the packing to send it back would be impossible to do, most people would keep the mattress because it would be aP.I.T.A to send it back?
I’m most comfortable sleeping on my stomach. I have a firm mattress from IKEA, and I absolutely hate it. It’s WAY too firm and I wake up with horrible pain in my lower back in and hips. Do I really need a firm mattress? I was disappointed when it said that.😢
It would be really helpful for your international viewers if you used (at least additionally) a system of measurement that most of the planet understands.
Such contradictory information in the mattress review field. Some sources, like this one, state that memory foam is better for side sleepers than coil springs. Other sources, including Consumer Reports, state that coil springs are better for side sleepers than memory foam. Even with the internet, researching mattresses is still extremely baffling and convoluted.
Everybody wants to be a mattress buying expert by regurgitating the same old information that's out there, but at least stay accurate, you say "innerspring mattresses are not for side sleepers", 100% not true..innerspring companies were the first to address (side sleepers comfort). all these fly-by-night (copy- cat) new mattress companies are out there. just buy brands that are quality sourced from companies with a substantial background in U.S. or European mattress manufacturing using high quality materials . Everybody wants you to ignore the quality and sourcing of the materials being used. Just like anything you buy, purses, sneakers, clothes or cars, how well is it built? Every new mattress company now claims to have the same features. But where do they buy the materials from and how long have they been manufacturing high end products. Or are they just paying some random overseas manufacturer who gave you the best price to make the mattress for you. what? Everybody is aware or they should be about the importance of a good night sleep in their health regimen. So just stick to the basics, there is no such thing as a cheaply built, cheaply priced "pop up, out of the blue, "Good Mattress" to put your body onto! 🤔 stick with the "Brand name mattresses" people. They've put in the work and resources to deliver you a healthy product.
My wife says she needs something extra firm becuz the mailman is a big guy....why the mailman is relevant to the bed is beyond me???? I guess she likes to show off the bed thru the window.....she's such a sweet sweet woman.

Even with the internet, researching mattresses is still extremely baffling and convoluted.
I think it might be easier to buy a submarine. LOL

I wish 1992 WOULD call!
Just saying.
Everybody wants to be a mattress buying expert by regurgitating the same old information that's out there, but at least stay accurate, you say "innerspring mattresses are not for side sleepers", 100% not true..innerspring companies were the first to address (side sleepers comfort). all these fly-by-night
(copy- cat) new mattress companies are out there. just buy brands that are quality sourced from companies with a substantial background in U.S. or European mattress manufacturing using high quality materials .
I just want a mattress that won’t start squeaking ever. I’m a heavier girl.
