  • For episode number 2 of "Test Drive", we take an inside look at what makes Channel Island's Fred Stubble such a functional/go to small wave performance board. From volume and outline to bottom contours, we discuss the possibilities of the Stubble and then put it to the ultimate test in gutless knee high (Florida June) conditions.

I'd have to agree with your review this board does what the shapers say, it gives you enough speed to lay down a hard turn on a small wave, enough hold to be to lay down a hard carve or snap or too drive hard off the bottom and enough release to slide the tail if you have the will, power and skill.
Surfboards are all about balance, and compromise. it's hard to get a super fast board down the line that will also carve and snap in 2ft waves. Peace from the sunshine coast aus👍

yeah i agree, we kind of drew the line after this one and said the surf has got to be at least ride-able! haha' i will say the Stubble would go well up to about shoulder-head high, after that i would switch over to the standard Fred Rubble most likely. Thanks for watching!

what was your fin set up? side fins or quads to tackle my small mush?

i truly believe the 3 fin thruster set up is always best for the mush garbage unless you are surfing a good defined point break. That center fin gives you drive and a point to pivot off of if you need to make a quick direction change or get around a section. hope that helps, thanks for watching!!
