The disrespect on 1994 WC... In my opinion it is the best world cup in history: - USA vibe - Baggio as Italy's hero, with 5 goals in knockout stage, which ended sadly in the final - Romario (absolute star of the tournament) and Bebeto duo - The biggest sensation in WC history - Bulgaria's semifinal, with beating Germany in QF - Sweden's dream team, with Andersson, Brolin and Dahlin - Al Owairan making history for Saudi Arabia - Salenko's record 5 goals in one game - Milla's oldest goal in WC history - Pablo Escobar (Centre back) story - Bergkamp shining for Netherlands - Romania beating Argentina, amazing Hagi - Maradona story And yes, final was bad. But we rate the whole tournament, which i would rate out of this world
@@adamkowalczyk3430 Baggio has always been my favorite Italian footballer by far the most technical abilities. Such an injustice everyone remembers his miss but he played hurt in the finals. Without him we wouldn’t have even sniffed the finals.

@@sidharthvinod1997 I was close to elevating 2006 to Excellent. I do like it but it felt like it was missing something. Yes it was a very balanced tournament, there were about 8/9 teams that legitimately had a shot at winning which is very rare Nah 2022 had the best group stages I’ve ever seen (Argentina vs Saudi, Group E final game Spain-Germany-Japan-Costs Rica, Morocco beating Belgium. Uruguay getting KOd because Korea beat Portugal) none of the 32 teams got 3 wins and only Qatar and Canada had 3 Losses. The KOs were fine, last 16 was forgettable other than Ronaldo getting benched and Morocco KOing Spain on Pens The QF were brilliant, all 4 games were tense and worth watching (especially Argentina vs Netherlands) SF were fine and then the final was arguable the GOAT World Cup final. It’s also going to remembered as the one Messi won. And he wasn’t just in the squad he raised his game and took over that tournament. 2022 is closer to 1986 than it is 1998
Agree on 82 it was unbelievable I was in Italy at that time visiting my native country and got such an unexpected gift of the Azzurri not only winning but beating Argentina Brazil W Germany an underrated all time side
2002 was horrendous. I was in college and I watched pretty much every game at odd hours of the day/night. I think people never actually watched the games and just remember the names of the Brazilian squad and think "great football". It was the complete opposite. That Brazilian team played bad as a team. They struggled to qualify to this world cup. They only clinched their place on the last game against Venezuela. And it wasn't a given even when they were playing at home. Argentina were the dominant force in South America leading up to this tournament but ended up doing poorly. In fact, so many big teams played bad in this tournament that there are no memorable great games. Korea beating Italy and Spain in questionable games just adds to the pile of trash. Rivaldo acting up against Turkey was probably the highlight of the tournament. An ok Germany and Brazil made it to the final which was just ok. People claiming that this Brazil team was one of the greatest actually never lived during those years. Any South American who was old enough to follow football and CONMEBOL qualifiers during those years remembers the truth.
That’s a fair analysis! I think the fact that so many of the top teams underperformed isn’t always a bad thing - it was definitely the World Cup of shocks!! Maybe we remember it more fondly because of our age at the time!
2002 was excellent, 82 possibly the best football throughout. But looking at Russia and there's a bitter taste due to their two wars at the time. But maybe that's a different show. Discuss the world cups with a geopolitical angle. Or is that too controversial 🤔
I'm not going to rank a list, but 2014 World Cup was bedlam from start to finish. Germany won after smashing Brazil, Colombia & Costa Rica reaching the quarters and Spain, Italy & England grouped. Argentina missing sitter after sitter in the final drove Messi onto greatness. I will say I would prefer the World Cup to be a 24 team tournament. No need for a Last 32 and endless no hopes being included. Just like I would prefer the Euros to be 8 teams again
The 2022 group stage was actually incredible and full of drama. - Saudi Arabia beating Argentina - Japan beating Germany and Spain - Morocco beating Belgium and topping their group - South Korea beating Portugal - Tunisia beating France - Cameroon beating Brazil - Heavyweights like Germany, Belgium, Uruguay failing to qualify
I feel that the Saudi Arabia match was the only notable moment before the final round of matches. The end of the groups was stunning but they first two rounds of games were largely forgettable
