I'm sad there's no happy ending, but I know it wouldn't fit the game to actually have the protagonist just get to go home, see his wife and dog, and live happily ever after. I knew there were some shenanigans going on when I got the false ending. The people had crows fly away as if they were corpses, the one lady behind the door has a fetus lying on the ground, and there are mushrooms in the basement. Nothing seemed right, and I felt sad that the protag couldn't just have his nap in peace, especially after the hell I had to endure with him. That being said, the true ending is metal as all hell, and I love it. The one part where you burn the horde of people trying to escape legitimately gave me chills, and you ultimately become a hero by sacrificing yourself to keep humanity from becoming fertilizer.
It is one of the most disturbing endings in a game, period. Although its very sad and disturbing, I see it as mercy kill to the people you burn in the end. Releasing them from their dream like state and saving them from the fate the being had in store for them... The Darkwood is a world in itself, within the one we are so used to.
Is the protagonist fooled by the dream in this ending ? What if one searches the living area for suspicious clues ? Do you simply don´t find any when do the radio tower path ?
PinkasBrown44 The radio tower escape is not an ending as such - it's just an alternative route leading to the 'road home', with some clues to the back story to be found along the way in the desolate area where you emerge. As you reach the road home and the town, you still may have a true ending and a false one.
PinkasBrown44 exactly. The Epilogue itself begins only after reaching the end of 'the road home' - and what you see immediately after escaping through radio tower comes before you hit that road, hence, before the epilogue.
Ah, OK. I thought the radio tower lead to a third ending in which the protagonist neither dies consumed by the flames nor gets fooled by the dream entity. Thanks.
