Thank you for sharing this info. I'm just getting ready to print my very first photo book. I truly appreciate this break down of the different paper types.
Hi mate. I just wanted to reach out to you to say thank you so much for sharing your knowledge here for us. The mere fact that you mention which grammage most photobook companies use saved me so much time and effort. That simple thing, that no one talks about, was enough for me to give you a thumbs-up and a subscribe. Thanks for making my day.
Thank you for this video. This is probably the best video on the kind of info I was looking for - the different paper/finishes from different companies.

Thanks a lot for the detailed information, helped me a lot for my initial decision for the paper.
Am I arty-farty? I'll have to think about that. : ) The reason I like the uncoated paper is because I see glossy images all the time. Photos generally don't move me on an emotional level the way a painting might. The lack of gloss, glare, and reflection allows me, for me anyway, to enter the image, or to feel what it's tryjng to convey. Too much shine makes an image noisy(?). How do I hold the photo so it doesn't glare? The photo of the reclining Buddha(?) not only was the page shiny, but so was the statue, and then there was the orange wall. So much intensity. Those bright, crisp, contrasty colors are nice, but they also feel...too perfect, and static. Thanks for this video. I learned a lot about paper, and why I like what I like.
this is all good until you have to publish it and make money out of it ig. it depends person to person. personally even i would like an uncoated finish but sometimes its better to go with what suits the book type than our own personal preferences.
you just saved me!!!! I have an assignment where I have to submit a travel photobook. can you let me know which is better, silk or lustre, for a travel photobook which will include text as well?and which binding technique?
You said that the lay flat books are thicker. I'm choosing between Premium and Signature Lustre paper for my lay flat book. The premium has "ultra-thick" pages. This is a family vacation book, which do you think is best?
What is the best place to print landscape pic will hang on the wall and what is the best kind of paper suitable to pop the pic and decrease the glare and reflection in impix
If every company offered you a free photo book but you could only choose one, which company would you choose and what kind would you go with? I’m looking for archival, high quality prints and excellent construction of the book. Either a lay flat or flush mount with luster or matte. Probably a leather cover. The last thing I want to do is spend $500 on a photo book and have it come apart.
Baby book using Shutterfly FIRST monthly Accomplishment crawl rollover sit up so w/text @ top of page. Should I select glossy or because of text it will look cheap? Really need your advise
Quick question : Which is the longest lasting paper in your opinion? Have you ever noticed that any particular type of photo paper getting fused together in a photobook? I have two books from Adoramapix - they are fuji photo paper - high gloss and other one is luster. Last year I noticed that couple of pages within both of these book got fused together in small patches. It didn't go worse, may be because I open them once in few months to check. However I print photographs of my kids so it is important to me that the pictures look good for decades.
Hi, no, I haven't had that issue. Sticking paper can happen when there is too much moisture in the room or from pressure, if you stack photo book on top of each other. Acid free papers will last longest but that's just the paper. The ink has to last and not fade too and that's a whole other story.
Great video, im going into custom digital portrait printing in the very near future and i honestly had no idea about paper and altho my prints wont be in books.. this was a great video to help me understand alot about paper that i didnt know about. Thanks!
Please Help me. min 8:18 Could you be so kind to provide a link from amazon ebay or any store where i can buy exactly that brand of luster paper?? Please help me. Thank you
Such an informative video, it has made me realize the depth of how poor quality the photobook is that I purchased from Photobook Canada, I went for Lustre paper but the outcome is sooooo rubbish, I am convinced there is no finish coating and the pages don't even stack up properly, they're uneven and wrinkled, the actual print is worse than a basic home printer!!! Any advice would be much appreciated?!
Great videos. Do you have a video on zine’s? I am a photographer and am now printing my first zine with Mixam. The paper choice they offer is satin I am hoping it is like lustre. Any advice you can share about a zine?
Can u do a comparison review on the new mixbook layflat premium luster layflat book and the other premium matte layflat. I also would like to know how the new luster layflat compares to saal’s books. I Love your video’s!
could be but many companies don't use the terms correctly. satin sometimes means having a linen texture. Saal uses the word 'matt' for their lustre photo paper to give an example. Best to try
Hello, this video was incredibly helpful! I am a new to phonebooks and would like to get the best quality I can. I was on the Saal webpage and I didn't see the lustre paper option. It is just their matte? You're help would be extremely appreciated!

What is no binding mean? And standard on cover finish and on page finish? It’s my first time ordering in shutterfly, and I don’t know what that means. Please help..
I have to respectfully disagree, in terms of “high gloss” being the #1 choice. Most professional photographers choose a high quality matte, fiber or metallic. I rarely print my landscape images on high gloss. Sometimes I’ll use luster.
MrZaZa3استاذ_زازع i’m certainly not a paper expert. I use Epson most of the time, simply because I have an Epson printer. I’m happy with ultra premium matte for most landscape prints. I can’t always afford the more expensive paper. However, I LOVE their luster paper for some landscape/nature prints! I just printed two shots I took in Yosemite on luster paper and they look awesome.
If you just want to see the gloss differences go to 6:04
Thanks. I'm 3 minutes in the video and all he is talking is paper thickness.
Thank you

Thank you brother.

Yeah this is my buddy Matt, he's a type of photo print paper
Please Help me. min 8:18 Could you be so kind to provide a link from amazon ebay or any store where i can buy exactly that brand of luster paper?? Please help me. Thank you
You can't buy that exact brand as it's supplied by photo book makers who don't disclose their suppliers.

I hate those unwanted shines or glares. But I prefer better colors and dynamic range/contrast. Which type of paper is suitable for my need?
Hi! Could you please share the company name of the photo book with the glossy tiger (on 7:32)? Is it Saal?
Yes, Saal
Have u mention the lustre paper ?
Thicker paper naturally has a higher GSM. Cavemen were using the thickest paper ever when they were carving on trees.
What do you recommend at mpix for a night time firework picture that will be in a glass frame?
Fantastic video.
Would I be right in using silk 170/180 GSM for a cook book?
Yes that seems like a perfect choice
Amazing video, thanks so much!
I came here to find what poster I should order
For Fine art wedding albums do they use Matt finish?
yes
very nicely made! thank you!
thank you very much bro! your video is very informative and useful:)
What kind of paper did you use for photo book
Can u do a comparison review on the new mixbook layflat premium luster layflat book and the other premium matte layflat. I also would like to know how the new luster layflat compares to saal’s books. I Love your video’s!
You can't get a lustre finish in the Mixbook lay flat books, they only allow that paper in the perfect bound hardcover books at the moment.
Thank you so much!!! u saved my life....
very informative video !
I need help I use Orion's high gloss paper and it doesn't dry whenever I touch it the ink gets smudges
Which is best for birthday mettalic papaer, texture paper or 300gsm
textured paper is usually quite thick, 200-300 gsm
@@PhotoBookGuru i have orderd to print on 300gsm gloss lamination
Thanks for explanation 👍
Hi is satin and silk the same?
could be but many companies don't use the terms correctly. satin sometimes means having a linen texture. Saal uses the word 'matt' for their lustre photo paper to give an example. Best to try
Will glossy prints stick together overtime?
I don't think so unless you keep it in a damp environment

hi, yes, it's the matt
3:25 for who looking for layflat
does laminating pages necessary?
it adds extra protection but most archival papers don't need it
@@PhotoBookGuru wow, i didnt think i'd get replied, thank you so much! noted!

Very good video!
does anybody know where you can get these papers in bulk thanks!!!
you can get inkjet papers from amazon, quite a lot of suppliers there. silver halide papers are made by Fuji

Matt is more common.
These paper are suitable for inkjet printer?
if it's from the right supplier, yes
What is no binding mean? And standard on cover finish and on page finish? It’s my first time ordering in shutterfly, and I don’t know what that means. Please help..
Standard paper is usually silk. No binding means it's not a book, it's just loose pages.
Photo Book Guru thank you for answering me. I have one more question, what is the standard binding? I’m looking forward to your response. Thank you
Thanks man! Really helpful! 🤗😊
Very helpful, thankyou!
Thank you so much!
You're the best. Thanks for doing this!
MAT is the best for the fingerprint
Just designing a photobook in Saal and silk paper is the most expensive. This video states that it's cheapest. What?
