  • Here I present to you a rare Hoover Elite Commercial Lightweight upright vacuum (surprisingly from 2010), model C1404, that I bought on eBay after always wanting to get a TTI variant Hoover Elite Commercial since they were the FINAL variations of the Elite before the lineup was discontinued once and for all. Originally, I wanted the C1414, which is the hard bag version of this with on board tools, since I already have another C1404 ( • Hoover Elite Commercia... ), which is a Maytag version based on the Elite 200, but once TTI took over Hoover, they kept the Elite lineup going for commercial use, but streamlined the production of these and the C1404 gained height adjustment and an attachment port for tools, but never came with any on board likely since that was reserved for the hard bag C1414. The Elite series Hoover's debuted back in the late 80s and soon became the successor to the legendary Convertible series, and its popularity rose fast, because of how lightweight & powerful they were. This is one of the commercial variants of the regular Hoover Elite that was designed for the home, the few differences done to it to make it commercial grade are the upper cord hood that's 2-fold one to coil up the cord and hang it instead of wrapping it up all the way, and the bottom section allows the vacuum to hold onto a maid's card. It features a 7.1 amp motor with direct air design and takes Hoover Type A bags (this example is running the HEPA bags that are available but a big pricey but worth it in the filtration and increased performance). The suction is not the best, but the airflow is fantastic (even greater since it comes factory with the 20 blade fan impeller that not only improves suction and airflow but is also more shatter resistant to the previous 7 blade fan), and the agitation is amazing (ever since I put in the new generic brush roll). My only complaints about this machine is that it's quite loud when in use, and can sometimes be very vulnerable when using since it's entirely made out of plastic (which is why it's not as commercial grade compared to some of it's competition). Overall, I absolutely love this vacuum and is certainly better than anything Hoover makes today.

Nice that you got it NOS, that one actually was the predecessor to the C1404. It really wasn't too different from the C1404 that came later in the 2000s before TTI took over the company, other than the color and that it had a slide top bag vs the side zip bag like the C1404's had.

I never understood why the older elite's had the side mounted switches. I think it still had the spot for the side switch and the hose port because the company was too lazy to remove them.

I do know that they used a rod setup mostly for serviceability reasons and also to cut down costs, it costs more to wire up a rocker switch to that same position than it does to mount it down in the motor and have the switch spot be controlled by a plastic rod that slides against said rocker switch.

i have three tti era hoovers and im done. their all absolute junk and i refuse to buy more. tti needs to stick to basic power tools they do not understand this market and all they make for it is JUNK. even my ryobi tools have been more reliable but they only do one thing so....... done with their crap

Yeah, Hoover is just not the same as they used to be. These commercial Elites, and the OG Windtunnels were the last good Hoovers in TTI's ownership before dissolving completely.
