OTO MACHINES BAM INTERFACE GUIDE

- This is a tutorial on how to use the OTO Machines BAM. I go over each part of the interface and explain all the different options and settings. I'm using a Korg Volca Bass as a sound source (off screen). The BAM is a very simple unit to operate and you can access 90% of the functionality directly on the front panel. There are some hidden settings available but these aren't critical to every day use. In my opinion the interface is really well designed.

Always out of stock but always available to order - 2 months waiting for these great french guys to build it - well worth it.
I have Boum and Bam with Bim coming in a few weeks.
Electronic music is all about having "your" sound.
My 48 percent german dna appreciates this straight to the point approach. 52 percent of my dna wept because HAL couldnt share how to use the controls for expression.
your voice is so soothing UwU
I have had this thing for a couple of years now and it has grown to be one of my favourite pieces of gear. There is a small learning curve but after a short time I found the UI to be clear and concise, it is a work of genius. Importantly, the lack of alphanumeric information forces you to listen critically and make decisions with your ears, it's purely about the sound. I learned a lot about reverb using BAM that I hadn't previously in decades of owning other reverb devices. Built like a tank and stands up to being played like an instrument during live performances, in fact it demands it! I love mine and will never part with it. Now beginning to explore the midi features and a whole new world has just opened up, it is like a second honeymoon. Seriously tempted to get a BIM or Boum now.
Great little demo.
Thanks!
thanks for this! what is your opinion on this compared to e.g. the strymon nightsky?
Sounds great and nice demo but a little cryptic for $560
Yeah, now I have to LEARN the pedal.
Great job explaining it! Straight to the point, simple and exhaustive. Keep'em coming!
It's a bit sad that the screen isnt used to show some charactersss but heeh
It's a bit sad that you can't choose the chorus to be 100% wet and all the steps in between..
I heard that will be addressed in an update
The chorus or the screen ?
the chorus
telkmx It’s sad there isn’t a “spillover” setting when you switch types. It’s distracting during live play.
Great video, thanks. If you come up with a setting and turn the Bam off, does it keep it there or reset every time?
This or Ventris?
luap ekcol which did you choose? I have a ventris but possibly thinking of swapping it for the Bam
After having both for synths the Bam 100% its just a much warmer more natural reverb.
The_Waxen_Pith Neither at the moment. That’s why I asked 👍
how do you set the VU meter on the unit to be active ????
Hello, watch & listen carefully at 5:37 ;)
This vs eventide and big sky? Anybody ?
AdrianVino good question
Big sky
@@Abjure_0_ for guitar yes for synths no
@@alexjones4219 I don't actually agree as I have all of them. I just said what at that time was my taste. I don't find restrictions on why you can't use big sky for synths. Peace out.
I wanted to buy them all. Now I’m like what. The menu sucks. Menu diving on a pedal. Will stick with the eventide
Few days later. I’m all about it. The delay is headed tome now and reverb is coming next week. The dist is the only one I’m more sketch on. As I have the Heat II. Tho can’t split em up so that will be last.
Arrrrggg why are the things i like the most also the most expensive
lol I know how you feel.
I don't even think this thing is especially awesome in how it sounds or it's features. I can get pretty far with an ugly zoomCDR70. I just love when a company knocks it out of the park with controls and user interface. I really appreciate the minimalism and how all the feedback is easy on the eyes, without having to tell me alphanumerically.
Because you wouldn't have liked it as much if it was $50
quick and comprehensive. thanks for this great tutorial! 👏🏻
not sure if this guy is even alive,, he went offline like a year ago, crazy!
@@Dolle_Man that’s too bad
great. now i want it even more...
its a great unit. any plans for a BIM? is the compressor ever going to release?
No idea bout the compressor. I'd like to get the BIM one day but maybe I'll wait for some kind of sale first haha.
great and clear ! thank you very much :)
ps : would you do the same with the OTO BIM ?
I will if I ever get one :)
@@onceuponasynth Just spoke with someone at OTO. New batch of all three versions are due March, 2021. Really hope you pick up a BIM and do a similar review. Impressive work. Thank you!
Sounds cool. What synth is that playing ?
Volca bass
Great demo!
But why didn't you pluged it in stereo?
the volca output is mono
@@chussein7 Yes but the reverb output is stereo, so when you plug a mono source in L(mono), you should have a stereo reverb processing, or should you? I never tried the OTO BAM specifically but I'm pretty sure that's the purpose of L(mono) input, to feed the 2 channels of the stereo processing, as in a mixing console, when you plug a guitar in the L(mono) of a stereo channel, you hear the guitar in both speakers...it would be a bit disapointing if it doesn't work like that with the BAM
Excellent breakdown! ❤
