Patricia is one brilliant performer/artist...It really doesn't get any better! Yet, she is virtually ignored by the jazz media and jazz snobs. While on those very rare moments, they actually acknowledge her...it's very much like sarcastic and condescending envy. She is a true musicians, musician...yet somehow mystically accessible to the thinking/intelligent public at large. She clearly is a master at finding the right players to share her passion...much like MIles and Coltrane.
I learned about Ms . Barber upon listening session at a Hi end music store in Arizona. The CD playing was Cafe Blue” Ode To Billy Joe. All I can say is WOW! I scrambled to find that CD and have it it my collection. Thank you so very much for your talent and wonderful band Ms. Barber
This is so wildly great that I can not think of any superlatives to describe the experience. I have only recently discovered Patricia Barber and her beautiful quartet. I am seriously thinking of moving to Chicago to hear them live whenever they are in town.
Elle réinterprète à sa façon ces morceaux en jouant des variations où une note en amène une autre et ainsi de suite , bravo aux musiciens qui l'accompagnent . J'adore ce style improvistique !
I saw the quartet in Calgary many years ago. I embarrassed my date because I kept standing up, totally into the live music, while the rest of the 200 or so ppl just sat there stiff and unable to comprehend the talent of each individual artist.
wow esa murmuración de las palabras casi como si apenas las tocara....y luego esa intervención vocal maciza.....toda una experiencia Patricia.......con este cover de los Beatles total....
She is not prepping for gigs with the likes of Miles or Trane.......she is the genuine article....a top talent in her own right. With something to say......and that’s what jazz is all about!
I fell in love with her voice, her talent, her incredible range at the Gold Star Sardine Bar in Chicago in the late 80's. Few before or since can match Patricia's extraordinary talent. Why she isn't more well know in the US is a mystery.Judging from what I've seen here she is well known in other parts of the jazz world.
Beautiful open version. You want a sitar hook? Just play it yourself in your brain - superimposed with Patricia's version - the whole point of jazz is to break barriers. Nobody in their right mind goes after French impressionists and accuses them of not painting reality. Same is true for jazz it gives you a different way of looking at the same tune. I only wish she quoted some Indian music in her solo - that would complete the circle.
Some day she will be regarded as a true jazz giant among the likes of Miles Mingus Baker Simone & co... In my mind there is absolutely no doubt about it.
The mannerisms are distracting and, I think, completely unnecessary. I don’t need to be reminded how extremely inspired her performance is, nor how difficult.
She might get ignored due to the song selections she chooses.. I think she's better than Krall, but that's to me, but I wouldn't put her on par with someone that's like, Corea, Hancock, Tyner, Jarrett, etc. I think Barber is quite talented, but I think she'll cater to people that come from a pop mentality that's used to listening to commercial music. I would doubt that Coltrane or Davis would hire her as a side musician for them. Sorry.
Says who. It's all a matter of preference. Anyway -what is jazz after all. I reckons she is terrific and her music is "musical". Some of your artists mentioned above are fantastic but in my opinion they fail to tell a story in their music and some of it is downright ugly.
@@larrytasker7043 Yeah, and that was MY opinion, which is what I said in MY comment. If you have a different OPINION, go ahead, I don't care, just as long as you don't say something completely ridiculous like. "Some of your artists mentioned above are fantastic but in my opinion they fail to tell a story in their music and some of it is downright ugly" Fail to tell a story in their music? She's singing and playing a freakin Beatles song. Those aren't HER words. Yeah, as I mentioned in my original comment, she'll attract a different audience of pop minded listeners, which is YOU!!!

Shout out to the entire quartet. Each one is an artist in their own right.

Wonderful rendition of in my humble the greatest ever written… beautiful .
This is so wildly great that I can not think of any superlatives to describe the experience.

Absolutely Awesome!!!
Un grade classico, per una grande interprete, grazie.
Absolute magic. A fantastic rendering of a wonderful song. Fully does it justice. Thank you.
Quite simply one of the world's 'great' artists. Even a simple Beatles cover is transformed into a live performance masterpiece.
Beautiful rendition. I love the emotion, the sad sweetness to intense expanded solo's. Great work!
First heard patricia on modern 🆒😎 a wonderful talent...a real jazz singer.... a voice that's very moving 🎶🎹🎼🎵💖💕
...this performance sends me away to a very unique and beautiful sound world... free as the wind... rapturous... aaahhh...
I saw the quartet in Calgary many years ago. I embarrassed my date because I kept standing up, totally into the live music, while the rest of the 200 or so ppl just sat there stiff and unable to comprehend the talent of each individual artist.
exquisite. thankyou.
Perfect balance of subtlety and intensity. Mesmerizing!
Insanely inspiring, joyful, sublime... Love Patricia Barber
Espetáculo! muito bom
wow esa murmuración de las palabras casi como si apenas las tocara....y luego esa intervención vocal maciza.....toda una experiencia Patricia.......con este cover de los Beatles total....
This lady is unique. VERY cool!
How can I feel the total Art?, Thanks Mrs. Barber
She is not prepping for gigs with the likes of Miles or Trane.......she is the genuine article....a top talent in her own right. With something to say......and that’s what jazz is all about!
Great, great music.
I keep emailing to see when she is coming to the UK. Please come!
Outside the original this is number two ... beautiful .

Cómo me encanta escuchar a Patricia Barber para escribir ;)
Amazing music ..
Mais um êxito de Patrícia Barber
She does a nice job taking pop/rock/blues songs and turning them into jazz.
Music lovely lyrics warmly welcome
This song is real masterpiece, and every version of it is great. My favorite is by Buddy Rich, excellent cover.
I heard her many yrs ago in club she usually plays in Chicago, but this one is way better and I lived some 100km south of Gdynia, ah.
Too many comments analyzing to her. Listen and feel. That’s all
Chilling sentiment.

Lesbians have a deeper heart into this song, very well done and a great rendition. Thank you.
I guess that also straight women could get inspired by that norwegian wood
great
genius in her own way
Some day she will be regarded as a true jazz giant among the likes of Miles
Mingus Baker Simone & co...
In my mind there is absolutely no doubt about it.
deeper than diana krall
How can you even compare the two of them??? Patricia Barber is in a totally different league than Diana Krall. Just saying.
Top Line..
Still not tired of this arrangement after hearing it first a couple years ago. Too bad it's not HD and too bad the bass solo is edited out :/
I feel love .. for a woman ... when I hear this
Where is this video available on Blu ray?
nowhere
? How is it here? What is the source?
Jason Souliere This is just a TVRip.
Unfortunately no, damn it. They should have made one.
@@pliedtka As a tv producer, I know for a fact a broadcast copy will exist - how to get a copy is another matter!
Actually , the more you listen, the better it gets . I'll have to refine my taste , I think...
UAUUUU!
When at 2:00 you realize there are 8 more minutes..
This video should have millions of views, it is such a perfect "cover" of a quite mediocre Beatles song.
Yeah! And then it resurrected glorified!!
Don't Beatles have enough publicity without being played at Jazz festival. Besides, there's no jazz in this singer/piano player.
i wanna marry her.. please
genius alright - but i always knew that.
The mannerisms are distracting and, I think, completely unnecessary. I don’t need to be reminded how extremely inspired her performance is, nor how difficult.
何だこいつ!!!
@cooperdogable There are much worse things to do, I tell you, much worse!
She crucifies a great song.
