Here's a great suggestion for a video. Toxic minerals, crystals and other stones being sold without toxicity knowledge. Many people don't realize a lot of stones are actually toxic.
I dropped this app because it kept saying my blue apatite was sodalite regardless of the lighting.
There are 3 options for what it could be

Anyone with some knowledge and experience knows that it is not possible simply from the visual impression (look or photo) to identify a rock reliably, no matter how good an AI would be, it would simply not have the required data.
I bet lighting would affect the apps' decision making.
Definitely! Using visual characteristics is unreliable enough without the variables involved with digital photographing, i.e. lighting, camera focus, angle, etc. It’s why laboratories and gemologist appraisers don’t identify stones via photos.
Theres another stone ID app that does the same thing except you show it a photo of an old washed up singer and it spits out "Mick Jagger".

Oh no! I’m sure your emerald is beautiful and certainly does not look like agate! Hahaha. Unfortunately, these apps are simply not reliable. The field of gemology is simply too complicated. :)

The app would probably do better when trying to find out basic stones like granite and basalt. Maybe even some amethyst and quartz but who knows. I just know I'm not spending money on these apps. Plant identifier apps, sure. Mineral identifier apps, nope.
