Absolutely. Just wondering around your imagination does take over. Especially with the help of the old photos that have been preserved. Just a bloody gem.
That golden gully place is kind of fascinating. You don't realise unless you scamper up the cliffs but there are little tunnels cutting through from one gully to the other up there. Also If you ever make it back there, head out to History Hill. The guy who made the mine in town and then had it taken from him by the national parks trust, built one bigger and better just out of town. He also has the most incredible collection of gold mining memorabilia
Yeah right. We'll get back there I reckon someday. We did go out and see ol mates collection. It's very extensive. Luckily we allowed a full day there.
Looked stunning, a place of peacefulness. Wonderfull visiting places, where there is positive community commitment, so adds to the awesomeness upliftment one feels of heart in the throat. Appreciate the sharing you both experience of places in this amazing country we have to live.
Lived in Hill End as teen, woke one morning with a cow sticking its head through my window. When I attended the public school there were 26 kids in the school
@TimRumble We moved there from the Central Coast when I was in yr 5 or 6 and I'll never forget the day I saw my old class and teachers come stolling down the road on an excursion to Hill End of all places lol. Yeah some good memories but the dreaded bus trip every morning to Mudgee high school was ridiculous lol
@@TimRumble your adventures are right up our alley and it’s these hidden gems on the rds less travelled that we love. Can’t wait to tick more off the list!
you didn't mention the Holterman nugget found in Hill End. The biggest nugget found in Australia. Size 144.5cm high, 93.2kg of gold extracted from the specimen had an estimated value of $5.2 million at today's prices.
I remember staying for a couple of nights at the pub about 30 years ago. Good advice from locals was (especially if you'd been drinking) don't go walking around outside the town at night or you could fall into one of the many old mine shafts which still studded the landscape
while you're in the area, if your going Bathurst way ,get a chance check out Carcoar its an amazing little historical town also free camping near by at Carcoar dam . a nice little spot to hang out well worth the look if you're into history . way more interesting than Hill End imo
Thanks so much for the info. We'll add it to our map of points of interest. We've since headed past there but suspect we'll get the opportunity to stop there in the future.
Great vidio but national parks killed the real hill end yes its a nice place to look at but having a npw police telling you were to go and wat to see and were you can walk and were to fossick
Yeah. I understand both sides. Because there is residents there. I'm sure they could have formed an organisation to oversee things of that nature. I guess with national parks involved there is a level of financial backing and protection. Like alot of places, imagine once huge crowds of people go there and dig up the place and ruin it for everyone. It's a fine line to walk along. But yeah it's a great place.
Thanks team, love your vids,we've been away for a week or so.
So were a bit late on our comments.Great vid thanks.👍🏾
Ahh nice Doug of on adventures?
I tell you what, all the old machinery laying around is just awesome to see.
Bloody oath.
How interesting!
A walk down memory lane

Seems a ghost town, besides youselves, birds and a wombat.
Certainly a nice looking area.
It was beautiful Denis. Alot of good work being done by locals and parks.

Oh wow. That would have been such a great place to grow up. Especially as a kid.

@@missmidnight71 oh true. Yeah I hated the bus rides to and from school also. Must have been a long trip for you.
@TimRumble 2 hours lol! In winter it was almost dark by the time we got back
Thanks for showing us this amazing time capsule. Added it to the list.
That list is going to be massive isn't it. Haha. Cheers guys.

Bloody hell, You're right I didn't... and that would have been a good bit on info. There's even a monument of it as you come into town in the park.
