  • Thank you, Kobe. For all those nights where I sat in front of a flickering television, finding excitement and wonder from the craft you dedicated your life to. In your high flying highlights I found respite from a world that can be oh so cruel.
Thank you, Kobe. For making post moves and footwork cool again. For taking the fadeaway jumper and perfecting it down to a science. For making every time I throw a piece of paper into a trashcan into the greatest show on earth. "KOBE!"
Thank you, Kobe. For being human & frustrated at times & disappointing people & lifting them up when you think you cannot take anymore or go on any longer. For being imperfect, and having flaws that I could relate to. For being brave & stubborn & arrogant at times but always striving to be the best.
Thank you, Kobe. For showing us that an 18 year old kid could grow old with the game. For never backing down. Not from Michael, not from Shaq, not from LeBron, not from any challenge or obstacle that you faced.
Thank you, Kobe. For giving me nights to look forward to, where my father & I shared a passion for the game, watching you take over Staples Center as the sun set over Hollywood & you wrote your name in the stars. For enthralling me so much so that I would beg my father just to stay up to watch your highlights.
Thank you, Kobe. For letting me get so lost in the story, the pain, the beauty, the suffering, and the triumphs. For playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. For hitting game winner after game winner after game winner.
Thank you, Kobe. For letting us glimpse your maniacal drive. For willing the Lakers to the finish line. For teaching us the heart of perseverance of a true warrior. For making me laugh, and cry and feel that feeling in my stomach whenever you were in down but never out.
Thank you, Kobe. For playing through all your injuries. For playing with a broken finger, playing on one leg, shooting those free throws without the tendon that even a Greek god needs intact. For pushing further and further, and digging deeper and deeper, when it seemed like there was no where else to go.
Thank you, Kobe. For making me believe in magic. For showing us that an 81 point game, is more than something you can just do in a video game. For making 40 point scoring outbursts look routine, not just once or twice, but for weeks and months at a time. For outscoring teams on your own. For leaving it all out on the court.
Thank you, Kobe. For bringing the nation back to it's golden roots. For making us believe in dreams again. For sacrificing your body on defense and setting an example. For making every other player question why they weren't working as hard as you.
Thank you, Kobe. For showing us the beauty in the pain of this thing. For bringing us to the promised land five times. For showing us, that sometimes you fall, sometimes you don't win and that is okay because you might lose the battle, but you will win the war.
Thank you, Kobe. For being all mine, and everyone else's who tuned in night after night to watch you leave your mark on the game of basketball. For being our childhood hero. For making it look so easy, when no one saw the countless hours you put in before you stepped on the stage. For working until your heroes became your peers, and the legends made you one of them.
Thank you, Kobe. For squeezing every ounce of potential from your body. For showing us that we are never out of it. For making us believe that no matter what, you could hit the game winner, make your classic Mamba face, and save the day.
Thank you, Kobe. For showing me that heroes come and go, but legends are forever.
Thank you for simply being there. For simply being you, imperfections and all. There will never be another.
Dedicated to two of my childhood heroes. My late grandmother who taught me to never stop working and dedicate yourself to your goals, and to the Mamba who taught me that anything is possible if you believe in yourself.

I started watching Kobe since I was a kid, I watched him for 20 years, 20 fucking years! The moment he retired, it was sad, but I was also happy for him, because I know him would be successful outside of court with his mentality. I love him, he is my hero, he is also my idol. Every time I play basketball, I would think that I am Kobe on the court. And he taught me so much more outside of playing basketball, about being a man. I still can’t believe that he is gone, I miss him already, man, this is so sad, so sad.

I cry every time I watch this video. I feel like guys that are in my age bracket that we’re kids growing up in la watching Kobe understand what Kobe meant to us. I was 3 years old when Kobe came in the league and I was 7 years old when he won his first title in 2000. He introduced me to basketball and he’s the reason I fell in love with it. When Kobe hit a game winning shot or dunked on somebody or won a big game I felt on top of the world like he did. Watching flashbacks of him playing in the early 2000s makes me wanna cry because it just takes me back to my childhood when I had no worries in the world. All I cared about was Kobe and the lakers lol I miss Kobe so much

I remember. My dad. He first introduced me to this game. To the lakers. To Kobe. And I as I grew older I realized. I want to be remembered like this. I want people to look up to me like they did Kobe. I wanted to be Kobe. Kobe was the candle that lit the hallway when I thought I wasn't good enough. And. I am going to be in the NBA. people who see this comment. How ever many years from now. If you see this and believe I can make it to the NBA. Thank you. Thank you Kobe. Thank you basketball. Whos got here after learning Kobe's untimely death.
I'm from the Philippines I'm one of the biggest fan of his undeniable talent and personality, it started year 2000 when I was still 12 years old back then, I obsessively waiting and hearing their playoff ran on radio only because we don't have basketball channel for NBA back then, until year 2004 were able to watch Tru tv watching Kobe, Shaq, D Fisher, Robert horry, Fox and the Lakers was my refuge and comfort.
Rest in peace my brother. Your now in the hands of the Lord Almighty. Forever mamba.

Honestly I remember showing this to my girlfriend, and she wasn't in any way a basketball fan but I am. I think she knew how much it meant to me when Kobe retired. It honestly felt like the end of my childhood, the end of what I remember what it was like growing up in Los Angeles. What it was like hearing the fireworks go off when they won their championship in 00-02, 09-10. What my girlfriend learned from watching this video was that even tho I grew up in poverty, I saw Kobe as somebody I wanted to be. I learned that in order to be the best at something, it's gonna take everything that I got.
Thanks Mamba for everything. This generation, the people here who are commenting owe so much to you. Thanks for allowing me to have something to look forward too every winter season, thanks for letting me copy your turn around fade away on kids at school.
Thanks for giving me hope Mamba...
