WOW how things have changed... Chris in the 80's racing Tour of Flanders and then catching a redeye to race NEXT day in the Basque Country! WOOF, that must have been rough!
You always point out things I missed watching live, today it was huge effort by Omar Fraile. And I am totally with you being critical of Hayter's positioning. I bet his teammates don't like it either.
Great analysis, and I have to say that I agree with you totally on everything in this video. I didn't actually realise until recently that Brian Smith was actually ever a pro cyclist. I just thought he was a commentator, maybe did some cycling at a low level, but not in any races I'd heard of, especially with some of the nonsense that comes out of his mouth. It's a toss up between him and Adam Blyth as to which can talk the most rubbish during a bike race. As for today's stage, amazing scenery, blue skies, picturesque villages, that look great too tight for a peleton to fit through, mountains in the background, and as usual a lot of up and down with very little flat road at all. It's an amazing region and an amazing race. Surely the amount of climbing will see the favourites distance the rest, and I'd think Vingegaard has to think he's got to attack early on some of the climbs that are close to the finish to win this race. I thought you didn't give enough credit to Omar Fraile as I thought he basically won the stage for Hayter. It was an amazing display of speed and timing to get his man in position to win the stage, and I don't think any of the other teams were easing off, he just blew them away. I know this was his job he was tasked with, but I didn't expect him to be able to do this the way he did, it was timed to perfection. It was great to see Ethan win today, he seems so humble and basically thankful to his team that has still got the chance to win stages like this after breaking his collarbone in Australia at the start of the year. I hope this means he's getting back to his best and can complete for more stages this year!!!
Oh, and I'm absolutely astonished that anyone can do a 270km race in Belgium and then start the Tour of the Basque Country the very next day. That just seems like hell to me, that can't have been fun!!! Were you able to recover for stage 2? That wasn't the year you won the race was it? The riders today don't know how easy they've got it, lol.
It is real bad when gcn does not have the paris Roubaix on and flo wants you to pay for a year to watch the race!! But I am glad I get to watch this race!! And it was a great race! Thanks Chris!
@@recrevs963 When FloSports or NBC has the USA rights, GCN won't show their coverage in the US. However, through a VPN, you can access the full GCN coverage of everything they carry. For Flanders, they had full coverage of the men's race, picking up the women's race when it finished. GCN will cost $50 a year, and I think you can add a VPN at a reasonable cost. I won't make a VPN recommendation because I got a super deal on a highly-rated one years ago--so I'm out of the market.
Wow Tour of Flanders and then Basque race ... They don't do this anymore nor I think these guys would wanna do it. What do we know about Bernal? He DNF two races he was in. Can he get back to the level where he could contend for perhaps Vuelta lets say later on in a year? Would not mind one more serious GC guys to watch. Also thanks for the graphics work...together with Chris' awesome vocal skills the still images with arrows help so much!!!
Chris MvDP is another rider who likes riding in the back of the peloton and that has brought him some problems like RVV 2023 and Paris Roubaix 2022. Why do you think they do that?
Hey Chris, great analysis as always, really like the details you provide and I always look forward to the next video 👍 one little thing that would make it even better in my opinion - slow down a bit and don't rush it so much. Great content otherwise, we get a completely different view on the race, some things are not even mentioned in the highlights or other channels 💪
I think Steve Cummings sits as a DS on Ineos so maybe Steve doesn't mind Ethan being at the back. Some riders don't like sitting in the bunch though which is not great for the reasons you give. I did hear on Geriant Thomas' podcast that weirdly, Ganna (not there) not only isn't a great descender but also doesn't like bumping shoulders with riders. These riders are delicate creatures!! Geriant said at PR Ganna will have to be escorted through the Arnberg without much hassle and after that he'll be good to go. Riders aren't always straight forward :/ Also, funny fact (Booby and Jens podcast) that Jonus worked in a fish factory 2-3 years ago, Michael Valgren also worked in that fish factory and knew Jonus well as a youngster. His Mate had to nag Jonus to get out on bike as Jonus was a lazy Kid. They're amazed how he's turned out from the lazy Teen he was. Good listen :)
Good win for Hayter although it looked like he celebrated a bit too early when when he crossed the line but the replay did show that he had a bike length. I'm thinking Carapaz will win a stage here or atleast turn himself inside out and lose it in the last 1k. Lol! Also, I'm calling Soler to be in EVERY break this week. Lol! Gotta love his tenacity and grit and he is having a rebirth it seems. I think Jonas will win the overall but Ineoes have a strong team and should be on the podium. I did like Steve Cummings when he was racing, such a modest and quiet guy. I think Brian Smyth was doing the comparison because he was the D.S. for MTN-Quebeka and Cummings was one of his riders. But I hear wht you are saying and heck no Hayter keep yourself forward just incase if ANY mishaps from the bunch or any mechanicals cause that would have cost him and his team a ton of extra work. Gonna start heating up later on in the week with some serious climbing. Check you tomorrow. Buddy have a beer already. Lol!
I find it weird how a pro rider wants to and argues it's better to ride in the back. Maybe it's because I raced as an amateur but the back is sketchy! Plus you can't catch a move if you need to. Also, look what happened at Flanders this weekend! What's the psychological reasoning for this? Why would a pro, experienced rider WANT to do this? Is it too aggressive up front and they feel like they're at risk for crashing? Seems odd to me
Hayter has often gotten into trouble in the past for his habit of hanging out in the back. He’s missed peleton splits and other problems. I wonder if Ineos will ever cure him of these bad habits.
Brian Smith also said that riders shouldn’t be allowed use power meters in races 🙄 guy is away with the fairies. Hayter has also lost jerseys in the past due to getting caught out sitting at the back, so not sure what ol’ Brian is on about on that one.
After watching your breakdown I agree it definitely was an accident. But his decision to ride there was reckless and therefore I agree with him being disqualified. Just because you and a thousand others riders do it, it doesn’t make it safe. There are about 50 riders who would agree he made a poor decision.
Watched the whole thing, and still unclear what the pro riders should know better than to do. 🤔 Maybe I'm just tired and/or clueless? 😂🤣 In any event, still a good clickbait title. Made me wonder!
Vingegaard is so one dimensional. He is only competitive because of starving himself and climbs well. No muscles what so ever for squeezing out a punch from that body.
Two Chris Horner videos in 15 minutes! Great!
Bam bam 💥💥🦋🦋
This race is our gift from Slovenija.
We dont wanna be accused to be greedy😇🤗

I like seeing your different winning pics at the end of your videos. It's a treat.😊
👊🦋😀
Love the war stories!
👊🦋👍
Great vid Chris, I really get a kick out of your show with the great analysis! You know these riders and the races man.
Soler is here, I watch the race waiting for his knucklehead moves LOL.
As usual, I love your analysis, thank you for this!! 👍from France 🇫🇷

Right. His teammates hate it. That’s why they don’t go back there with him. Yikes. 😬🦋
Of course we follow your channel and we know full well that u won the Basque country competition 💪💪 now its time for me to watch the second stage

@@AlanForkosh Agreed, VPN is the solution. Even some free versions are good enough.
Just to add: GCN has coverage of the final few hours s of the women's race on Saturday (coverage starts at 6am PDT) and the full men's race on Sunday.

Congrats on passing 60k
Well earned
Thank you Chris👊🦋🦋🚵♂️

He crashed during Catalunya but he had decent fitness considering he was coming off a knee issue from another crash. 🤔🦋👍
I'm hoping to see a total Soler Eclipse of everybody this year in Euskadi. You never know, stranger things have happened!
would be cool. i just want Roglic to beat the brat Evenepoel at the Giro
That would be super. 👊🦋💥🔥☀️🌕🌑
That was an EPIC leadout from Omar!!!
Basque Country in the 90s must've been NUTS!!!!
It was nuts. 🦋👍

They love to chit chat back there. You find where all the parties are at. 😜👊🦋🥳

Every time Chris mentions Mark Solar, I think to myself, we will regret it when Mark retires. Dude can ride his bike.
He certainly can pedal it. 👊🦋💥🔥
So good! I want a CH Butterfly Effect Tee shirt!
I’m trying. 😂👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling Awesome! Can’t wait!
cycling jersey too plz!
2 in one day? what a treat.
💥💥🦋🦋
Chris, I watched the last 50/60 KM and thought it was pretty boring until the last 5 km. Hopefully tomorrow it will be more entertaining.
the only sprint stage..... It's not flat over in Basqueland
It will be good. 👊🦋🔥
End photo 👍

Double whammie today 😊😊🎉
The race was slow and Flanders was really good and very interesting. 👊👊🦋🦋
Wish Juan Ayuso was racing, would love to see JV and JA go at it.
I know right. The kid needs to get healthy and back at it soon. 🤞👊🦋

racing after a redeye
knucklehead!
Absolutely 😂👊🦋🍻
You complain about racing Basque after Flanders but imagine if you had to do Anquetil's 1965 double.
Where has Jonas been? Thanks CH!

How many times did Vingegaard fall off cyclone Tadej's wheel during the TDF '22 - and compare this to Flanders yesterday?
