Last movie I watched with my dad. Movies were our thing. We would go to a movie theater and see 3 movies in a day when I was young. Well my dad passed away 3 years ago. I listen to this soundtrack almost every night to fall asleep. Goodnight daddy.

I agree I am a insomniac and this is my soundtrack I go to sleep to but I know the movie because of this.. my husband says I wake him reciting this movie
The way this track develops is amazing. The ending perfectly depicts that feeling of "no turning back" and the turmoil of thoughts that must be going through Cooper's head as he departs, both in the truck and the rocket. The blending of both those scenes in the film was really beautifully done. I felt truly terrified and sad for Cooper and his family.
Having a daughter of my own, this soundtrack in particularly just speaks to me. Especially when watching the scene where Cooper leaves... Beautiful beautiful masterpiece. Thank you Mr. Zimmer!
Christopher Nolan didn’t want Hans Zimmer to know it was a space movie when he wrote the original concept. He just told Hans it was about a father and his child. Hans actually wrote the concept thinking it was a father and his SON.
This masterpiece perfectly conveys Cooper's epic yet terrifying journey and the unbearable ache in his heart for leaving his family behind. Had the pleasure of watching Hans Zimmer perform this live and it was breathtaking.
This plays during the liftoff scene, and the editing in this scene alone makes me come back to this movie time and time again. Coop says take care of my kids for me, and starts to drive away in his truck. Murph comes running after him, and then we cut to the countdown. Next thing is the lift off into space, and the future.
“After you kids came along,” he told her, “your mother said something I didn’t really understand. She said, ‘I look at the babies and see myself as they’ll remember me.’” He studied Murph to see if it was sinking in. At least she appeared to be listening. So he continued. “She said, ‘It’s as if we don’t exist anymore, like we’re ghosts, like we’re just there to be memories for our kids.’” He paused again before going on. The expression on Murph’s face was a little puzzled-and he didn’t blame her. It had taken him a while to get it himself. “Now I realize,” he said, “once we’re parents, we’re just the ghosts of our children’s futures.” “You said ghosts don’t exist,” Murph replied defiantly. “That’s right,” Cooper said. “I can’t be your ghost right now-I need to exist. Because they chose me. They chose me, Murph. You saw it.” Murph sat up and pointed at the shelves, at the gaps between the books. “I figured out the message,” she said. She opened her notebook. “It was Morse code.” “Murph…” Cooper said, gently. She ignored him. “One word,” she continued. “You know what it is?” He shook his head. She held out her notebook so he could see it. STAY “It says ‘stay,’ Dad.” She peered at him, waiting for his response. “Oh, Murph,” he said, his voice sad. “You don’t believe me?” she said, her eyes flashing defiantly. “Look at the books. Look at-” He reached out and took her in his arms, stopping her from saying anymore. She felt so little, and she was trembling. “It’s okay,” he told her. “It’s okay.” She pressed her face into his shoulder, sobbing.
I read this whole comment by enacting each line the way it is. And towards the end I couldn't help myself. I was crying. I never knew, but yes I was crying.
I relate so much to Murph in this movie. I love my dad more than anything, and he's a police officer and I'm terrified, he will walk out our front door and won't come home, and I wouldn't be able to say goodbye. We may live in small city in Canada with low crime and the only interesting things are speeding tickets but you never know. I don't want to lose him, he's a good dad, a good cop and a good man.
One of the most emotional scenes I’ve ever seen. On repeat viewings, it hits more since you know he won’t see Donald or Tom again and won’t get to see Murph for 89 years. The music at 5:35 gives me chills and perfectly captures the moment.
This film embraces the very essence of humanity, presented in a way that is perfectly visceral and intellectual. It transcends time and space and draws the entire concept of existence into (or out of?) your soul.
The way this theme in particular sounds like a solemn piece that would be played at a funeral is SO FITTING. Cooper is, at least to those around him, being sent away to die.
This score is perfect. embodies the wonders of space. The terrifying unknown. The fear of letting go of what you love. Even if for the better of mankind. Absolutely perfect and is the best movie score I’ve ever heard.
Well, we already sort of decided. Look up the Voyager Golden Records. We sent it out with a bunch of songs and cultural shit in the 70's - Carl Sagan's work, primarily.
Yes this May will be 8 years. I still think of him daily look at his pictures a few times a day. But it is easier. Just lost my mom on Dec 1st. So it's hard now that both parents are gone.
On the second half, nice inspiration from classical European romantic music (Beethoven-like), with a lasting but non-directing bass, the chord is given only by the violin part, and the dominant sequence in major ends up on a minor mode which acts as a very dramatic progression in this scheme. One would expect then a change to quicker tempo and rythmic part in major with a directing bass, but this is not a classical music, this is a movie track. Anyway, this progression should be an example to every modern composers, emotion is here, this is the so-called "romantism".
Also, Alexandre Desplat is a great composer, but how did Grand Budapest Hotel win the oscar as opposed to this absolutely astonishing score? This is seriously the best music Zimmer has written imo. Dune was cool, but everything from Interstellar is timeless
One thing that's interesting: you can hear the bellows of the pipe organ. And pipe organs cannot crescendo as we hear in the mix; so this means (imo) Zimmer is artificially manipulating the organ to sound like a string orchestra (awesome compositional choice) and btw, this is the best music Zimmer has written, aside from Dune. imo.
My girl left me for her homeland 2 years ago. Time flies. I remember the day she left, she could not stop crying. I told her I would wait for her to come back. Two years have gone by, I realize I should not have let her go. I should have said "Stay."

On this soundtrack Hans Zimmer proved that he can tell the complete story of a movie using nothing but music
***** I knew that. Based on that text he composed a song called Day One, which comes with the CD
Same with gladiator ...
He does that basically for every soundtrack he produces.

He's proved that on multiple soundtracks for different movies. And this wasn't his first one, actually.
