I never knew until recently that they made a few models of these in 8 Inch 3 way speaker boxes. Have you ever heard any of the 8 Inch boxes? Thanks for the video!
They aren’t that bad actually. I rant on these speakers for year. Aiwa is pretty good for cheap vintage audio. I think these are better than some Sony speakers.
Yamaha also used cloth surrounds and they dimpled during excursion very similar to Aiwa/Sony. Cloth surrounds are good for sealed boxes in my opinion, not the ripple ones though. My favorite speaker is the 70s vintage KLH in my intro with inverted cloth. That pair of speakers is amazing.
Many brands used cloth. Like Fostex, Aiwa, Pioneer, Sony, Coral, akai, philips etc etc. I have over 150 woofers in my collection now all with cloth surrounds.. Love them all
2 way bass reflex usually means the speaker has two active speaker units as well as a tuned port. The bass port is not an active speaker, (does not have its own magnet.) this speaker was never a true 2 way box, even though it had a piezo tweeter at one point. I do not consider a piezo a tweeter because they do not do anything for the sound, unless the signal to them is dramatically stepped up by a transformer, which this speaker did not have either.
