2019 - Dairy Farming in Canada

- A year on our dairy farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. Even through a challenging year we strive to grow good quality feed for our cows. And provide an excellent environment for all of our cattle to thrive and stay healthy through the changing seasons.
We had a very cold February, and very dry spring.
After we finished seeding in May, we had an unforgettable day.
Our gravel truck had been working across the road from our farm and had a wire short out, which ignited some dry grass beside the truck. Even though we had a fire extinguisher there, it wasn't enough to stop the incredibly dry grass from setting ablaze on a very windy day.
The fire raced into an old dry bush which lit up like a match and sent sparks flying hundreds of feet through the air right towards our farm. It was a very helpless feeling watching the fire jump from different stacks of straw bales that we had. It also burned our tire pile which our JBS spreader was parked beside. We had many people help throughout the night and next day putting out flare ups and hot spots. We could not have done it without them! We lost many hundreds of straw bales but thankfully no one was hurt and the barns were safe.
Conditions stayed dry and we had our irrigation running non stop.
Things were looking quite bleak until we got some rain at the end of June. Even though it was a very dry year we were still blessed with good yields.
